What the Grave Scythe is
The in-game description, reproduced by the Elden Ring Wiki, reads: “Greatscythe comprised of a large blade affixed to a crooked stick. Weapon wielded by the aged grave keepers who tend the forgotten graveyards throughout the Lands Between. This weapon is said to have served as a charm against evil spirits in times of old.”

What the official patch notes say
Bandai Namco’s version 1.07 notes, dated 13 October 2022, list increased guard penetration for Grave Scythe under general balance adjustments. The notes say general adjustments affect both PvE and PvP; they separately describe PvP-exclusive damage scaling changes. This documented change is about guard penetration, not evidence of a change to Grave Scythe’s damage, bleed, or overall strength.
Bandai Namco’s version 1.16.1 page, dated 21 August 2025, lists fixes for certain incorrect affinity or status applications and a blocking exploit. It does not name Grave Scythe, and that page alone does not establish the weapon’s status under later game regulations.
