The download page offers release and development builds. Choose a release for the least-maintenance setup. Development builds contain newer fixes and features and may be published several times per day, but a recent change can also introduce a regression. If you try one for a specific game or device, keep your previous working build until you have tested it.

What Dolphin requires
Dolphin’s current FAQ lists these operating-system requirements:
#1 Best Overall
- MODERNIZED DESIGN — Experience the modernized design of the XBOX Wireless Controller with sculpted surfaces and updated geometry that enhances comfort and control during long gaming sessions.
- PRECISION PERFORMANCE — Stay on target with a hybrid D-pad and textured grips on triggers, bumpers, and back case for improved accuracy and handling.
- SHARE BUTTON: Seamlessly capture and share content such as screenshots, recordings, and more with the new Share button.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY — Connect via USB-C for plug-and-play on console and PC, or quickly pair and switch between supported devices with XBOX Wireless and Bluetooth support.
- BUILT-IN AUDIO SUPPORT — Plug in compatible headsets using the 3.5mm audio jack for direct voice chat and immersive in-game sound.
- Windows 10 or newer
- macOS 11.0 Big Sur or newer
- Linux
- Android 5.0 or newer
- A 64-bit desktop operating system
- A 64-bit ARMv8/AArch64 device for Android
These are compatibility requirements, not a guarantee of full-speed emulation. Performance depends on the game, CPU single-thread performance, graphics hardware and drivers, graphics backend, internal resolution, enhancements, thermal limits, and—particularly on Android—the exact chipset and device software.
Install Dolphin on Windows
- Open the official download page.
- Select Windows x64 for a normal Intel/AMD PC, or Windows ARM64 for an ARM-based Windows computer.
- Download a release or development archive.
- Extract the entire archive to a normal, writable folder. Do not launch Dolphin from inside the compressed archive.
- Open the extracted folder and launch Dolphin.
If Windows reports missing MSVCP or VCRUNTIME files, install or repair Microsoft’s current supported Visual C++ Redistributable. Do not download individual DLL files from “DLL fixer” websites. For XINPUT1_3.dll errors, follow the official FAQ’s DirectX and controller-driver guidance. The same FAQ also covers 0xc000007b and other Windows startup problems.
Install Dolphin on macOS
- Download the universal macOS package from Dolphin’s official page.
- Open the archive and move Dolphin to the Applications folder.
- Launch the application.
- If macOS blocks the first launch, use macOS’s normal Open or Privacy & Security approval flow. The wording varies by macOS version.
Dolphin’s current FAQ lists macOS 11.0 Big Sur and later. Do not bypass Gatekeeper with commands copied from an untrusted site or download a second copy from an unofficial source.

Install Dolphin on Linux
The official Linux packages are Flatpaks for x86_64 and aarch64. Install Flatpak through your distribution’s supported package manager, then follow the current Flatpak instructions on Dolphin’s official download page. Select the architecture matching your system and launch Dolphin from your desktop menu or Flatpak launcher.
Distribution repositories may lag behind Dolphin’s current release. Advanced users can inspect the source repository and build from source, but the required tools and dependencies vary by distribution and commit.

- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
Install Dolphin on Android
Use the Android distribution path shown on the official Dolphin download page. Availability through stores or direct packages can change, so avoid relying on old APK links from third-party sites.
Your device must use a 64-bit ARMv8/AArch64 processor according to Dolphin’s FAQ. A supported Android version does not guarantee that every GameCube or Wii game will run smoothly. Performance can also decline after sustained play because of thermal throttling. Android file-picker permissions and graphics-driver behavior vary by device and system update.
Dolphin does not include games
Dolphin is the emulator, not a source of GameCube or Wii games. Do not download commercial ISO or ROM files from websites that distribute them. Dolphin’s documentation directs users to create dumps from legally obtained discs, including through tools such as CleanRip with a Wii. See the official game-ripping guide.
Copyright, backup-copy, and circumvention rules differ by country. Even owning a disc does not automatically make every copying or downloading method lawful in every jurisdiction. Consult the law that applies where you live.
Supported game formats and adding games
Dolphin’s FAQ lists GCM/ISO, GCZ, CISO, WBFS, WIA, NFS for certain Wii U eShop-purchased Wii content, and RVZ. RVZ is the recommended compressed format. WBFS and CISO can remove unused disc information, so format support does not make a corrupt or incomplete dump usable.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
To add a legally created dump:
- Open Dolphin.
- Add the folder containing your game files under Dolphin’s configured game paths.
- Enable recursive or subfolder scanning if your files are organized in nested folders.
- Allow Dolphin to scan the directory and open the game from its list.
If a game does not appear, verify that the folder is correct, recursive scanning is enabled, the file is in a supported format, it is not trapped inside an unsupported archive, and the dump is complete. On Android, also check storage permissions and file-picker access.

Configure controllers
GameCube games
Open Dolphin’s controller configuration, select an emulated GameCube controller for the required port, choose the connected input device, and map buttons and axes. Dolphin identifies an emulated GameCube pad as Standard Controller. Save a profile if you want to reuse the mapping.
A conventional USB or Bluetooth gamepad is the simplest option for many GameCube games. For original controllers, Dolphin’s guide distinguishes the official Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter from generic adapters, which may require manual mapping and calibration.
Wii Remotes
Real Wii Remotes require Bluetooth support. Set the relevant Dolphin slot to Real Wii Remote, and follow Dolphin’s controller guide rather than pairing the remote through the operating system’s ordinary Bluetooth menu. Nearby Wii or Wii U consoles can interfere with pairing, and some Wii Remote Plus revisions need additional configuration on older Windows versions.
Motion- and pointer-heavy Wii games may need real Wii Remote hardware and an appropriate sensor solution. A normal gamepad can be mapped, but it may not reproduce the intended controls well.

Compatibility and performance
Check the official compatibility database for the individual game. Compatibility, performance, accuracy, and enhancement support are different things: a title may boot but still require settings changes, run below full speed on a particular device, or show problems only when resolution or graphical enhancements are increased.
Start with Dolphin’s default settings. If a game stutters or runs slowly, change one setting at a time:
- Reduce internal resolution or disable enhancements.
- Try another graphics backend if the current one performs poorly.
- Update graphics drivers through the hardware manufacturer or operating-system vendor.
- Allow initial shader compilation to finish.
- Check for laptop or Android thermal throttling.
- Look for title-specific advice in Dolphin’s settings guide.
There is no universal “best settings” preset. A configuration that improves one title can create glitches or slower performance in another.

The game runs slowly
Lower resolution and enhancements first, then test another graphics backend and check drivers and temperatures. Game requirements vary, so nominal operating-system compatibility is not a performance guarantee.
The Wii Remote will not connect
Confirm Bluetooth support, avoid ordinary operating-system pairing, set the Dolphin slot to Real Wii Remote, turn off nearby Wii or Wii U consoles, and consult Dolphin’s controller guide for controller-specific requirements.
Optional hardware
Dolphin itself is free. Optional hardware is useful only when the game’s controls justify it:
- USB or Bluetooth gamepad: a practical choice for conventional GameCube controls and many Wii games. Examples include controllers from 8BitDo, Xbox, or PlayStation.
- GameCube adapter: suitable for original GameCube controllers, especially for games where the original sticks, buttons, and analog triggers matter.
- Wii Remote and sensor hardware: useful for motion- or pointer-dependent Wii games, but more complicated than a standard gamepad.
- External storage: helpful for a large library of legally created dumps or texture packs.
Availability and prices for these products change. Avoid ROM subscriptions, unofficial APK services, DLL-fixer utilities, and “emulator booster” software.
