Ranked by raw destructive force, Kong comes first; Zebra is the speed specialist, while Ostrich brings flight and aerial attacks. Nintendo does not publish an official ranking, so this order uses destruction as its criterion.
What are Donkey Kong’s Bananza transformations?
In Donkey Kong Bananza for Nintendo Switch 2, Pauline’s singing empowers Donkey Kong to transform into animal forms. Nintendo calls these forms “Bananza Transformations.” They are temporary, specialized abilities—not stages in a permanent upgrade ladder—and players can switch between them for different situations. This list covers the three forms Nintendo identifies for Bananza, not animal buddies or abilities from earlier Donkey Kong games.
Nintendo’s game listing gives the release date as July 17, 2025, and lists a physical edition for Nintendo Switch 2.
The three transformations, ranked by destructive power
-
Kong Bananza: the strongest at smashing through obstacles
Kong Bananza is the clear pick if “wildest” means raw destructive force. The form can smash tougher materials, including concrete, and build up to a charged punch. Choose it when breaking through terrain is the priority.

-
Ostrich Bananza: the most surprising combination of flight and attacks
Ostrich Bananza gives Donkey Kong the ability to soar, catch updrafts and drop Egg Bombs on enemies. It does not outrank Kong for destruction, but flight paired with an aerial attack makes it the most visually unexpected form in this lineup.
-
Zebra Bananza: the traversal specialist
Zebra Bananza is built for movement. It travels quickly over water and crumbling paths, and its improved traction helps on slick surfaces. Its standout strength is reaching or crossing terrain, not smashing it.

Nintendo’s Ask the Developer interview describes a design built around chaining destruction. Takahashi explains that smashing terrain and collecting gold fill the Bananergy gauge, which allows Donkey Kong to perform Bananza transformations.
How Bananergy and switching forms work
Gold builds Bananergy, the resource used to activate transformations. Pauline’s singing empowers Donkey Kong to take a form, and the effect is temporary. Because the forms serve different purposes, the useful question is not which one is always best, but which ability fits the obstacle: breakable terrain, tricky traversal or an aerial route and attack.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which transformation should you choose?
- Pick Kong when the main problem is durable terrain that needs smashing.
- Pick Zebra when speed, water, crumbling paths or slick ground matter most.
- Pick Ostrich when flight, updrafts or dropping Egg Bombs can help.
There is no objective “wildest” winner in Nintendo’s materials. Kong ranks first here only under a destruction-based criterion; a ranking based on visual surprise or mobility could put Ostrich or Zebra on top.
