The quest continues through a dream sequence and enemy fights before you return to Starchild. GameTrek’s walkthrough lists the reward as 10,000 XP and two Intermediate Manual Pages.
Start the quest with Starchild
Find Starchild at Exile’s Cave and talk to him to begin Don’t Look Back in Anger. He asks you to gather two ingredients: Tree of Madness bark and an Infected Gallbladder.
Collect the two ingredients
Get Tree of Madness bark in the abandoned park
Travel to the abandoned park and collect the Tree of Madness bark. GameTrek reports that picking it up triggers a scream and causes Infected to appear, so be ready for a fight as you leave the collection area.
Take an Infected Gallbladder from the abandoned house
Head to the abandoned house in the swamps forest. The walkthrough says to enter through the broken roof, kill the recently turned infected inside, and take its gallbladder.

Meet Starchild at the National Park oasis
With both ingredients, go to Starchild’s oasis in the National Park. Talk with him about the mysterious voices, hand over the ingredients, and take the stimulant when prompted. This begins the quest’s dream sequence.
Complete the dream sequence and return
Follow the lab hallway in the dream. The sequence moves into a fight against your alters and then additional enemies. After you wake, return to Starchild and finish the conversation. GameTrek’s walkthrough says he identifies himself as Benjamin and quotes him saying, “we ask, we doubt, yet we carry on.” That dialogue wording is reported by the guide, rather than confirmed by an official source cited here.

Quest rewards and follow-up
GameTrek lists the quest reward as 10,000 XP and two Intermediate Manual Pages. Neoseeker reports that the follow-up quest For Your Mind Only becomes available one in-game day later; treat that timing as a guide-reported detail, not an official guarantee.

Techland’s official Hotfix 1.2.4, published October 9, 2025, documented a fix for fury resetting before the mini-boss fight forced fury. The same hotfix says co-op replication for doors, enemies, and quest events was improved to reduce softlocks. These notes document issues addressed in that update; they do not confirm behavior on every platform or current build.
