Metacritic’s all-platform page also displays platform-page values of PC 85 (48 reviews), PlayStation 4 87 (25), Xbox One 85 (63), and Nintendo Switch 79 (73). The platform counts do not add up as a simple partition of the all-platform count, so they should be read as the values shown on those pages, not combined or compared as mutually exclusive samples. Metacritic’s PC critic reviews and Metacritic’s all-platform critic reviews are the relevant pages for checking the current display.
What did critics praise?
Fast, continuous campaign movement
Reviewers highlighted the campaign’s momentum and its emphasis on staying in motion. TIME’s Matt Peckham, reviewing the PlayStation 4 version on May 17, 2016, captured the design in one line: “There’s no sprint toggle because you’re always sprinting.” He rated the game 4 out of 5. Combat and level design
The PC reviews listed by Metacritic include high scores and praise for campaign speed, combat, and level design. Peckham’s PS4 review likewise focuses on movement, combat, and gore, pointing to the campaign as a central strength in contemporary coverage.
SnapMap’s creative potential
SnapMap, the game’s level-editing tool, also drew attention. TIME’s review discusses level editing, while several PC review excerpts on Metacritic praise the editor. That enthusiasm was not universal as a counterweight to other shortcomings, however.

What were the main reservations?
Multiplayer was less consistently praised
Some of the PC review excerpts on Metacritic describe multiplayer as a weak link or less inspired than the campaign. Critics’ views on whether SnapMap compensated for that weakness differed, so the strongest shared positive case is the single-player campaign rather than a claim that every mode was equally well received.
The Switch version involved distinct trade-offs
The Switch reviews shown on Metacritic include praise for portability alongside notes about visual compromises; one cited review also flags small text in handheld play. Those observations concern the Switch port and should not be generalized to the PC, PS4, or Xbox One versions.

How should you compare the reviews?
- Check the platform: an aggregate or PC-page score does not describe every port’s presentation or usability.
- Distinguish the score type: Metacritic’s Metascore aggregates critic reviews; TIME’s 4/5 is one publication’s rating for the PS4 version.
- Separate campaign from multiplayer: cited reviews are more consistently enthusiastic about campaign movement and combat than multiplayer.
- Read the review date and page: these scores and review counts are displayed figures that may change over time.
Which game is this?
