At the container-control panel, use the robotic arm to move a box, then ride it upward. Jump to the ledge on the right and enter the opening in the wall: the vent is the route forward. You do not need a PDA to reach it.
How to get past the container puzzle
- Use the container-control panel. Select a bin and let the robotic arm move it into a position you can reach. In the GameSpot walkthrough, you select the bin number, wait for the mechanism, then press that number again to bring the bin over.
- Get onto the moving box. Jump onto it and use the mechanism to ride upward.
- Jump to the right-side ledge. Face the wall of stacked containers and jump across to the platform on the right.
- Enter the opening. Crawl through the vent in the ledge or wall opening. The low door below may look like the way through, but the walkthroughs point to the higher vent route instead.
This is the route described in the GameSpot Doom 3 walkthrough and corroborated by Planet Doom’s Delta Labs guide. A player asking about the locked cells in the 2004 AnandTech forum thread was given the same essential hint: use the box as a lift and reach the opening above.

What happens after the vent
After dropping through, the GameSpot walkthrough says you encounter two imps and continue to the security station. The next section uses the left desk console. This is separate from the container puzzle: no keypad code is needed to move the box or reach the vent.
Is code 931 the solution?
No. The walkthroughs associate code 931 with a later BFG chamber route, not with the container-control machinery. If you are still at the bins, focus on moving one with the arm, riding it up, and jumping to the right-side ledge.

Which Doom 3 version does this route cover?
The matching player question and walkthrough are from 2004 and concern the original Doom 3. Bethesda’s Steam package support page says the consolidated Doom 3 package includes the original 2004 game, Resurrection of Evil, and Doom 3: BFG Edition, each installable separately for owners of that package. The cited walkthroughs establish the route for the original game; they do not establish that every platform or edition has an identical layout. If your room looks materially different, confirm which edition and platform you are playing before relying on the steps above.
