DOOM: The Dark Ages is the game at the center of reports that a Denuvo-protected title released in 2025 has been cracked. The reported release appeared on March 14, 2026—roughly 10 months after the game launched—and was attributed to a piracy-scene name, voices38.
That makes the story notable, but the available evidence supports a narrower conclusion than “Denuvo has been defeated.” The report concerns one game and possibly one particular build. The exact bypass method, supported versions, and whether protection had already been removed from the targeted build have not been independently established.

What game was reportedly cracked?
The game is DOOM: The Dark Ages, id Software’s single-player-focused first-person action game published by Bethesda Softworks. Bethesda describes the official launch date as May 15, 2025, while the Steam listing shows May 14, 2025. The difference is likely related to regional or storefront launch timing, so both dates appear in official materials.
Steam’s product page identifies the PC version as using Denuvo Anti-Tamper. That is the anti-piracy protection relevant to this report—not necessarily Denuvo Anti-Cheat, a separate product that is sometimes confused with it.

On March 14, 2026, gaming coverage and piracy-community discussion reported that a release associated with the name voices38 bypassed the game’s protection. The claim was described as the first widely reported crack of a game released in 2025 that still used Denuvo.
That “first” label should remain attributed. It is based on specialist coverage and community reporting, not an official confirmation from Bethesda, id Software, or Denuvo.
Why the timing matters
The significance is not simply that another Denuvo game was cracked. Denuvo-protected games have been bypassed before, including much older releases such as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and Starlink: Battle for Atlas. DOOM: The Dark Ages was a much newer release when the report appeared.

Using Steam’s May 14, 2025 date and the March 14, 2026 report date, the interval was approximately 10 months. That is not necessarily the exact lifespan of protection for every version: early-access timing, patches, regional releases, and the specific executable targeted can all affect the calculation. It does show why the report attracted attention: the alleged bypass arrived while the game was still a relatively recent commercial release rather than years after launch.
Community discussion characterized voices38 as moving from older Denuvo versions toward newer releases. That is scene attribution, not independently audited technical documentation. A crack of one particular game build can be significant without proving that the same technique works against every current Denuvo implementation.

What “cracked” means here
In this context, “cracked” means that an unauthorized modified executable or release allegedly bypasses the game’s copy-protection checks. It does not mean that Denuvo’s source code was published, that the official game has lost its DRM, or that every version available through Steam, Xbox, Battle.net, or PlayStation has been defeated.
It also does not make the game legally free. Copyright law and the legality of unauthorized copying or distribution vary by jurisdiction, but readers should not treat a reported piracy release as a lawful alternative to purchasing or subscribing to the game.
This article does not link to unauthorized downloads, release files, bypass tools, or installation instructions. Apart from the legal issue, unofficial game releases can be outdated, incomplete, tampered with, malware-infected, or incompatible with current saves and downloadable content.
What is confirmed—and what is not
| Claim | Status |
|---|---|
| DOOM: The Dark Ages launched in 2025 and was developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. | Supported by Bethesda and Steam materials. |
| The Steam edition lists Denuvo Anti-Tamper. | Shown on the official Steam product page. |
| A crack was reported on March 14, 2026. | Widely reported in specialist gaming and piracy-community coverage. |
| The release was associated with voices38. | Reported by community and scene discussion; the identity is not independently authenticated. |
| It was the first 2025 Denuvo game to be cracked. | A reported claim, not an officially verified chronological fact. |
| The exact technical method and all supported builds are known. | Not established by the available public evidence. |
The safest description is therefore: reports say that DOOM: The Dark Ages became the first widely known 2025 Denuvo-protected game to receive a working crack. That wording reflects both the importance of the report and its evidentiary limits.
Was this a conventional crack or another bypass?
The available coverage calls the release a crack, but it does not provide a complete, reproducible technical audit. Public discussion contrasts conventional executable cracks with techniques such as hypervisor-based virtualization, offline-activation exploits, platform-specific workarounds, and releases limited to an older unpatched build.
Rank #3
- Brand Name:Xbox
- Video game region: region free
- Display Platform: PS5
Those distinctions matter. A conventional executable modification, a virtualization-based bypass, and an offline activation workaround do not demonstrate exactly the same thing about Denuvo’s protection. Nor does a piracy upload prove that its files are genuine: fake or incomplete releases and repackaged files are common risks in unauthorized distribution channels.
No authoritative technical write-up from the alleged author, Denuvo, Bethesda, or an independent security researcher was available in the reporting supplied for this article. As a result, the release can be described as widely reported, but its precise mechanism should not be presented as independently verified.
Did Bethesda remove Denuvo first?
This is an important distinction. If a publisher removes protection in a later patch, an unauthorized copy of that unprotected build is not evidence that an outside party defeated Denuvo.
Some community posts have claimed that Denuvo was removed from DOOM: The Dark Ages, but those claims conflict with the Steam listing, which still identifies Denuvo Anti-Tamper. A storefront label alone does not prove which exact executable was targeted, but it is stronger evidence than an unattributed forum post.
Without a confirmed depot comparison, patch note, executable analysis, or official announcement, it is not responsible to state that Bethesda removed Denuvo before the reported release—or to state with certainty that it did not.

Does this mean Denuvo has failed?
One reported crack does not establish a universal or permanent defeat of Denuvo. It demonstrates, at most, that protection on one title or build was allegedly bypassed.
Denuvo’s commercial purpose is generally to delay unauthorized access, particularly during the period when a new game is receiving its strongest sales, marketing, downloadable content, and promotional attention. A bypass arriving after approximately 10 months may therefore still leave the protection with commercial value, even if it is eventually defeated.
The reverse is also true: a crack can matter if it arrives while a game is actively selling or receiving expansions. But there is no sound basis here for claiming a specific sales loss. Establishing that would require publisher sales data or a properly designed independent study, not the existence of a piracy release alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.What changes for legitimate players?
For owners of the official game, usually nothing immediately changes. Steam, Xbox PC, Battle.net, and PlayStation users continue to receive their respective official builds through their platforms.
Recommended Free Tools
Legitimate editions can provide access to:
- official patches and bug fixes;
- downloadable content and entitlement checks;
- cloud saves and platform achievements where supported;
- account integration and customer support; and
- known, supported files rather than an unverified executable.
The Steam listing specifically advertises Steam achievements, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, and third-party DRM. An unauthorized build may not support those features, may target an older patch, and may not work correctly with the game’s current downloadable content. Antivirus warnings attached to unofficial files should not automatically be dismissed as false positives.

Where can you access the game officially?
Bethesda’s platform information lists DOOM: The Dark Ages for Steam, Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox app for Windows PC, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, and GeForce NOW. Bethesda also promoted Game Pass availability around launch. Availability, catalog inclusion, plan requirements, and regional pricing can change, so readers should verify the current listing before subscribing or buying.
The official DOOM website also promotes the Revelations campaign DLC.
At the time of the research used for this article, the US Steam listing showed $69.99 for the base game, $99.99 for the Premium Edition, $19.99 for the Revelations DLC, and $34.99 for the Digital Premium Upgrade. Those are date- and region-sensitive price signals, not permanent prices; taxes, discounts, currency conversion, and storefront changes may produce different totals.
For players who want Steam achievements, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, and conventional PC ownership, Steam is the clearest official option. Game Pass may suit readers who prefer subscription access, but a subscription is not permanent ownership and depends on plan, geography, and catalog licensing. Xbox PC, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, and GeForce NOW may be better fits for players already invested in those ecosystems or whose hardware and connectivity make cloud gaming attractive.
The bottom line
DOOM: The Dark Ages appears to be the game behind the claim that a 2025 Denuvo title was cracked. Reports published on March 14, 2026 attributed a working release to voices38 and placed it roughly 10 months after launch.
That is a notable reported milestone against a relatively recent protected game—not proof that Denuvo has been permanently or universally defeated. The exact method, supported builds, and the possibility of prior DRM removal remain unresolved in the available evidence. The report changes the DRM debate far more than it changes the practical case for legitimate players, who still get the strongest access to current updates, DLC, cloud features, achievements, and support through official storefronts and services.
