For that crash, Bethesda’s workaround is to disable one conflicting option in NVIDIA Control Panel or configure both options in the game instead. Bethesda’s later Update 4 notes give the current driver advice reviewed here: NVIDIA users should install driver 610.74 WHQL or later. The launch-era list is a dated report, not confirmation that every issue remains unresolved.
What to try first for an RTX 50-series crash
Bethesda reported that RTX 50-series users could crash when G-Sync, or V-Sync together with Multi Frame Generation, was enabled through NVIDIA Control Panel. Bethesda Support’s workaround is to disable one of the conflicting options there, or, if you want both enabled, set them in the game’s settings instead. Its advice is conditional: “Until a driver fix is available,” use one of those alternatives. The support answer does not establish whether a later driver has fixed the issue. Bethesda Support’s RTX 50-series answer and the May 2025 PC troubleshooting guide describe the report.

Other NVIDIA problems in Bethesda’s May 2025 guide
The following items are reports and workarounds from Bethesda’s launch-era guide. They should not be read as a statement that each problem still occurs on current software.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Reported issue | Configuration or symptom | Bethesda’s suggested action |
|---|---|---|
| Intermittent freezes | Reported on supported NVIDIA GPUs with updated drivers. | Turn on Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling in Windows. |
| V-Sync still appears enabled | On RTX 40- or 50-series GPUs with Multi Frame Generation or Frame Generation enabled, the menu could show V-Sync as enabled even though the game disabled it internally. Bethesda called this cosmetic. | No repair was specified; the reported symptom was a menu display inconsistency. |
| Game launches in the background | Alt-Tab during startup could leave the game running but inaccessible. | Avoid Alt-Tab during launch. Bethesda said restarting the PC could recover from the problem. |
| ShadowPlay recording causes a hang | On RTX 50-series systems, starting ShadowPlay recording with Multi Frame Generation at 3x or 4x could trigger TDRs or system hangs. | Avoid those Multi Frame Generation settings while recording, or use another recording application. |
| Freeze after frequent Alt-Tabbing | On NVIDIA 50-series systems using driver 576.40, frequent Alt-Tabbing in fullscreen with FSR Frame Generation could freeze the game. | Avoid frequent Alt-Tabbing, switch to borderless mode, or turn off FSR Frame Generation. |
| Launch crash after troubleshooting | Bethesda said a bad NVIDIA driver installation could be responsible on supported hardware. | Restart, reinstall the appropriate graphics driver, and select the clean-install option. |
These reports and remedies are from Bethesda’s May 14, 2025 PC troubleshooting guide. The guide also identifies some PC conflicts that are not specific to NVIDIA GPUs: OBS could contribute to crashes or fullscreen-capture freezes, MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner overlays could affect stability, and unplugging a second display during play could freeze the game. Bethesda’s listed steps are to close OBS before launch, use windowed or borderless capture where applicable, avoid those overlays, and avoid unplugging a monitor while playing.

Which NVIDIA driver should you install?
Bethesda’s newest versioned driver recommendation reviewed here is in its Update 4 notes: NVIDIA users should install 610.74 WHQL or later. This is the general current guidance in those notes; older driver numbers found on Bethesda pages refer to earlier, more specific circumstances.
| Driver guidance | What it applies to |
|---|---|
| NVIDIA 610.74 WHQL or later | Bethesda’s Update 4 recommendation for NVIDIA users. See the Update 4 release notes. |
| NVIDIA 576.40 | A specific launch-crash case reported by Bethesda Support involving that NVIDIA driver and an AMD Ryzen CPU; it is not general advice for all Ryzen/NVIDIA PCs. Bethesda’s listed options were to disable the integrated GPU or install AMD driver 25.4.1. See Bethesda Support’s crash guidance. |
| NVIDIA 576.75 or higher | The June 18, 2025 PC update’s driver floor for Path Tracing with Ray Reconstruction, not a general crash fix. See Bethesda’s PC update notes. |
Driver requirements can differ by feature and by the problem being addressed. For the narrow Ryzen/NVIDIA launch-crash case, follow Bethesda’s configuration-specific guidance rather than treating it as a universal Ryzen remedy. For general NVIDIA guidance, use the later Update 4 recommendation.

Path Tracing is a feature path, not a crash fix
Bethesda added Path Tracing with Ray Reconstruction for select NVIDIA GPUs in its June 2025 PC update, alongside a benchmark mode. The update required NVIDIA driver 576.75 or higher for that feature. Bethesda cautioned that trying Path Tracing at lower settings on other supported GPU models did not guarantee 60 FPS, correct visuals, or stable operation. It also listed visual problems in some circumstances, including missing or incorrect elements in a Path Tracing cutscene and artifacts on tentacle enemies attached to walls. These notes concern feature support and visual behavior, not a remedy for the launch-crash reports.
