Choose the correct edition first
The most important download decision is not Windows versus Android versus iOS; it is original edition versus Definitive Edition. They are separate products with different system requirements, prices, compatibility lists, and presentation.

The trilogy contains Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Buying San Andreas alone is therefore different from buying the complete trilogy.

Which Windows version should you get?
For a modern Windows purchase, the relevant product is usually GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition. Rockstar announced the trilogy for PC through the Rockstar Games Launcher, and an official Steam listing also exists for the standalone Definitive Edition. The original PC release has separate official support documentation and much lower hardware requirements, but you should confirm that the exact original product is currently offered in your store or Rockstar account before buying.
Do not use the original game’s requirements to judge whether your computer can run the Definitive Edition. The two versions are substantially different.

- Choose the edition. Select the original PC release if you specifically want that version and it is offered in your region. Select the Definitive Edition if you want the remastered release. Choose the trilogy only if you also want GTA III and Vice City.
- Use an official storefront. Open the Rockstar Games store or launcher for Rockstar PC distribution, or use the official Steam listing for the Definitive Edition. Do not download an installer from a file-sharing site or an unofficial game-download page.
- Check the exact requirements. In particular, confirm 64-bit Windows, RAM, available storage, and the graphics requirement for the Definitive Edition. The original release’s 256 MB RAM and 4.7 GB storage figures do not apply to the remaster.
- Install the required client. Install the Rockstar Games Launcher or Steam, depending on where you bought the game. A Steam purchase may still require the associated Rockstar account connection described by the listing.
- Sign in and redeem the purchase. Use the Rockstar Games account or Steam account associated with the purchase. Allow the launcher to verify the entitlement and download the game files.
- Launch after verification completes. The first launch may require internet access for activation or entitlement checks. Keep the purchase receipt and account credentials because digital entitlements may be account-bound or non-transferable.
Common Windows problems
- The game will not appear in the library
- Check that you are signed into the same Rockstar or Steam account used for the purchase. Do not buy a second copy before confirming the account and receipt. If the product was obtained through a key, remember that the code may already be bound to an account and may not be transferable.
- The computer has enough storage for the original but not the Definitive Edition
- Free substantially more space than the listed download size so the launcher can unpack, patch, and install the files. The approximate Definitive Edition requirement is 19 GB, compared with 4.7 GB for the original PC support specification.
- The launcher requests an internet connection
- That is expected for activation and periodic entitlement verification on the PC product. Complete the sign-in and verification process through the official launcher rather than trying to bypass it with a crack.
- The Definitive Edition runs poorly
- First confirm that the computer meets the remaster’s requirements, including the discrete graphics requirement. Do not assume that a system capable of running the original release will handle the Definitive Edition. Update Windows and the graphics driver through the manufacturer’s legitimate support channel, then check the game’s current support information.
Android: download GTA San Andreas from Google Play or Netflix Games
Android has at least two distinct official San Andreas products. Search carefully for the exact name and publisher rather than installing the first APK result you find.
Option 1: Google Play
GTA: San Andreas – Definitive is listed on Google Play by Rockstar Games as a paid app. The United States listing showed a price of $19.99 at the time of checking, but prices vary by country, tax, promotion, and account region. The listing uses the package identifier com.rockstargames.gtasa.de and was reported as updated November 4, 2025 in the research snapshot.
Google Play also distinguishes the original Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas mobile product from the Definitive listing. They are not interchangeable names for one app. Read the title, publisher, screenshots, device compatibility notice, and reviews on the live listing before purchasing.
- Open the Google Play Store on the Android device.
- Search for the exact product name, either Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or GTA: San Andreas – Definitive.
- Confirm that the publisher is Rockstar Games.
- Review the device compatibility and available storage shown for your account and handset.
- Buy the app through Google Play, then select Install.
- Launch it from the app drawer after installation and allow any legitimate first-run download or update to finish.
Option 2: Netflix Games
Netflix has an official GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition game page. If Netflix Games is supported in your country and your subscription, account age, device, and app-store policies qualify, the game may be available through the Netflix mobile app without a separate standalone purchase.

Netflix availability is not universal. Open the Netflix app on the eligible Android device, sign in to the qualifying account, find the Games section or search for San Andreas, and follow the in-app installation prompt. If the game does not appear, check the account profile, region, device compatibility, Netflix app version, and current catalogue before assuming that the title has been removed or that an unofficial download is required.
Android safety and compatibility
- Install through Google Play or the Netflix mobile-games interface.
- Verify that Google Play identifies Rockstar Games as the publisher, or that the download is initiated inside Netflix Games.
- Do not sideload cracked APK and OBB packages advertised as a free full version, mod menu, unlimited money edition, or unlocked game.
- Back up important phone data before installing any large game, and leave additional space for updates rather than relying only on the app’s displayed size.
- Expect the Definitive Edition to be materially more demanding than the original mobile release. A phone that can install the original app may not meet the remaster’s performance or compatibility requirements.
iPhone and iPad: download the original or Definitive Edition
Apple lists two separate Rockstar Games products. Use the App Store compatibility page for the specific iPhone or iPad model before paying, because the Definitive Edition requires newer hardware than the original mobile port.
GTA: San Andreas – Definitive for iPhone and iPad
The United States App Store listing showed the following information at the time of checking:
- Price: $19.99 in the United States snapshot
- App size: 2.8 GB
- Operating system: iOS/iPadOS 16 or later
- Hardware: A12 Bionic chip or later
- Devices: iPhone and iPad
- Age rating: 18+ in the listing
These are not universal guarantees for every country or future app version. Apple may show a different price, size, rating presentation, or compatibility result based on your region and device.
- Open the Apple App Store on the iPhone or iPad.
- Search for GTA: San Andreas – Definitive.
- Confirm that Rockstar Games is the developer and inspect the compatibility section.
- Verify that the device has iOS/iPadOS 16 or later and an A12 Bionic chip or newer.
- Purchase the app through the App Store and tap Get or the purchase button to download it.
- Keep the device connected to power and Wi-Fi if the installation or update is large.
Original Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for iPhone and iPad
The original mobile product remains a separate App Store listing. The United States listing showed a $6.99 price and a 2.7 GB size at the time of checking. It states compatibility with iOS 13 or later and also lists compatibility with Apple-silicon Macs. The original mobile port describes touch controls, physical-controller support, and cloud-save support for Rockstar Social Club members.
That lower listed price and older operating-system requirement do not make it the same product as the Definitive Edition. Choose the original listing if you want the original mobile experience and your device does not support the remaster; choose the Definitive Edition if your hardware meets its A12 and iOS/iPadOS 16 requirements.
To install it, search the App Store for the exact original title, confirm Rockstar Games as the developer, check the compatibility section, and complete the purchase through Apple. If you use cloud saves, review the account sign-in and cloud-save information shown in the current app and Rockstar documentation.

Netflix Games on iPhone and iPad
Eligible Netflix members may also find GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition in the Netflix mobile app. Access depends on subscription status, geography, account age, device compatibility, and current store policies. Netflix may redirect you to the App Store for the game installation while using the Netflix account to authorize access.

San Andreas is also included in the console package Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The trilogy was announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC distribution through the Rockstar Games Launcher, with later store listings and distribution references including Steam and Epic.
If you want a physical console copy rather than a Windows or mobile download, compare the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch. Check the specific retailer listing and the wording on the box before ordering: some Switch printings have historically required downloads, so a physical case does not necessarily mean that every game file is entirely stored on the cartridge.

Unofficial installers can also create a misleading support situation. The legitimate PC products use account login, activation, entitlement verification, and platform software.
