Where to download Mafia: The Old Country on Windows
The official Windows distribution is Steam. 2K lists Steam as the supported PC platform, and Take-Two confirmed the worldwide PC release on August 8, 2025. The publisher does not identify an official Epic Games Store or Microsoft Store version in the supplied PC platform information.
Use this route:
- Install the official Steam client for Windows.
- Sign in to, or create, a Steam account.
- Search Steam for Mafia: The Old Country.
- Choose the Standard Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition.
- Purchase the game or redeem a legitimate Steam license.
- Open your Steam library, select the game, choose Install, and select an SSD with enough free space.
- Allow Steam to download any launch patches, then start the game from the library.

Is Mafia: The Old Country free to download?
No. Mafia: The Old Country is a paid premium game. You need a valid Steam purchase or another legitimate Steam license to install the Windows version. Avoid torrents, cracked executables, unauthorized key sites, and “free download” pages. Apart from being unauthorized, unofficial installers can be modified, bundled with malware, or unable to receive the game’s official patches.
Do not assume that a console purchase transfers to Windows. The Steam PC version is a digital-only edition, while 2K’s FAQ describes physical Standard Edition availability for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Windows system requirements
These are 2K’s published specifications and targets, not an independent benchmark. The minimum specification targets the Medium preset at 1080p; the recommended specification targets High at 1440p. Meeting a listed requirement does not guarantee a fixed frame rate in every scene or configuration.

Important: an SSD is required
The SSD requirement is not merely a suggestion for faster loading. 2K lists an SSD as part of the supported PC requirements. You also need 55 GB free for the installation, and keeping additional space available is sensible for patches, temporary files, and normal Windows operation.

If your computer has no suitable SSD or your existing drive is nearly full, a 2TB NVMe SSD can provide practical headroom for this game and other large PC installations. Capacity alone does not guarantee performance, however: confirm that the drive is compatible with your motherboard or laptop, and do not treat any particular SSD as a guarantee of a specific frame rate.

Keep Steam connected to the internet for the first launch. According to 2K’s troubleshooting guidance, the initial online launch allows the game to validate and receive patches. A completely offline first installation or first launch may therefore fail or behave differently from a properly validated installation.
After the first launch, 2K says the game can be played offline. That does not mean every online-dependent feature, account-linked reward, future patch, or connected service will work without an internet connection.
A free 2K Account can provide certain in-game rewards, and some rewards require both an internet connection and a linked account. Those optional rewards are not presented as necessary to download or play the base game.
What to expect from the Windows version
Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, Mafia: The Old Country is a third-person, narrative-focused action-adventure set in early-1900s Sicily. The story follows Enzo Favara as he enters Don Torrisi’s crime family. Its gameplay combines stealth, knife fighting, firearms, period vehicles, and horseback travel rather than presenting itself as a purely open-ended driving game.

Full voice acting is listed for English, French, German, Spanish from Spain, Czech, Russian, and Sicilian. Voice and text availability are not identical, so check the game’s current Steam language information if a particular combination matters to you.
Performance settings to try first
If the game launches but performance is poor, make changes in a controlled order rather than immediately lowering every setting:

- Install current graphics drivers from your GPU manufacturer and restart Windows.
- Confirm that the game is installed on an SSD and that the drive has free working space.
- Use the in-game Graphics menu to remove the default 30 FPS cap if your system can sustain a higher rate.
- Try the available upscaling option appropriate to your hardware: DLSS, FSR, or XeSS.
- Lower the most demanding quality settings gradually and test the same type of scene after each change.
- If cinematics skip, hitch, or lag, disable Frame Generation and test again. 2K specifically identifies Frame Generation as a setting to check for cinematic problems.
The default frame-rate cap is 30 FPS, but 2K says it can be removed through the in-game Graphics settings. Removing the cap does not itself improve performance; it only allows the game to render above 30 FPS when the hardware and settings can support it.
If Mafia: The Old Country will not launch
Steam does not finish the download
- Check that the selected drive is an SSD and has more than the stated 55 GB minimum available.
- Leave extra free space for patches and temporary files.
- Restart Steam and Windows, then retry the installation.
- Make sure Steam is online and not stuck in offline mode during the initial setup.
The game launches to a black screen or crashes
- Update the graphics driver and reboot.
- Return recent overclocks or aggressive CPU/GPU tuning to stable settings.
- Try disabling Frame Generation, particularly if the problem occurs during cinematics.
- Test a lower graphics preset and an available upscaling option.
- Check 2K’s current PC troubleshooting guide and the game’s support section for fixes specific to the current build.
An Intel 13th- or 14th-generation processor is unstable
2K’s troubleshooting guide references possible instability under load on some Intel 13th- and 14th-generation systems and directs affected users toward relevant Intel guidance. This is a troubleshooting consideration, not evidence that every PC using one of those processors will fail. If you experience crashes or instability, update the motherboard BIOS and follow the applicable Intel support recommendations before treating the game as the sole cause.
Where are the Windows save files?
2K documents the default save location as:
C:Users[Windows username]AppDataLocalHangar 13 GamesMafia The Old CountrySaveGamesThe AppData folder may be hidden in File Explorer. Replace [Windows username] with your actual Windows account name. Before modifying or replacing saves, close the game and make a backup of the entire save folder. Do not assume that copying a save between different accounts, installations, or future game builds will always work.
Post-launch updates and Free Ride
2K’s support section lists patches dated August 28, September 22, November 20, and December 4, 2025, as well as PC hotfixes. The November 20 update added Free Ride; the support-section summary says it becomes accessible from the main menu after completing Chapter 2.

Patch behavior and menu requirements can change, so check the current support notes rather than relying on an old guide when troubleshooting a newly updated installation.
What not to claim about the Windows release
- It is not a free PC download.
- The official PC path covered here is Steam; do not assume Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Game Pass, or PlayStation Plus availability without a current official listing.
- Launch prices are not necessarily today’s prices.
- Minimum and recommended specifications are publisher targets, not guaranteed FPS results.
- A console physical copy is not the same product as a Windows Steam license.
