Yes. WorldBox – God Simulator can be played on Ubuntu through Steam. Valve’s store listing includes a SteamOS + Linux build, so Ubuntu users should install the native Linux version rather than download an Android APK, a Windows crack, or an unofficial archive. The normal route is to install the official Steam client, purchase or redeem WorldBox, and install it from the Steam Library.
Is WorldBox available for Ubuntu?
WorldBox is available for Linux through Steam, and the store page identifies the supported platform as SteamOS + Linux. That means Ubuntu is an appropriate target, although Valve’s label does not guarantee compatibility with every Ubuntu release, graphics driver, desktop environment, or hardware configuration.

WorldBox is a sandbox god simulator in which you create worlds, develop civilizations, manipulate creatures, and reshape environments with disasters and other powers. The Steam listing describes it as a single-player Early Access game with features including Steam Workshop and Steam Cloud.
There is no official standalone Ubuntu installer for WorldBox listed by Steam. In particular, you should not expect a separate .deb, AppImage, or .tar.gz from the game’s Steam page. The official desktop distribution channel is Steam.

Before buying, check that the WorldBox page displays SteamOS + Linux among its supported platforms. The U.S. price shown on the listing was $19.99 when checked in August 2026; the actual price can differ by country, currency, taxes, or sale. The Steam client itself is free to download, but the desktop game is normally a paid purchase.
Avoid sites offering a “free full version,” an Ubuntu APK, a cracked Windows executable, a repacked Linux archive, or an unofficial launcher requesting your Steam password. An Android APK is not the Ubuntu desktop version and cannot normally be installed directly on a standard Ubuntu system.

Terminal installation
If Valve’s official package is in ~/Downloads, you can install it with:

- Open Library, select WorldBox – God Simulator, and choose Install.
- Select a Steam library on a writable local drive with sufficient free space.

Steam should select the Linux-compatible version when it detects your Ubuntu installation. You do not need to configure Proton for the normal installation because WorldBox is listed with native SteamOS + Linux support.
WorldBox Ubuntu system requirements
These are the Linux requirements shown on the WorldBox Steam listing:
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 2.0 GHz | Dual-core 3.0 GHz |
| Memory | 3 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | 128 MB video memory; Shader Model 2.0 or newer | 256 MB video memory; Shader Model 2.0 or newer |
| Storage | 300 MB | 300 MB |
| System type | 64-bit processor and operating system | |
The listed 300 MB is the game’s stated storage requirement, not the total space Steam and Ubuntu will use. Leave additional room for Steam itself, dependencies, shader caches, updates, and saved data.

Native Linux version or Proton?
Use the native Linux version first. WorldBox’s Steam page lists SteamOS + Linux, so forcing the Windows build through Proton adds a compatibility layer that is not normally needed.
Proton is Steam’s compatibility tool for running many Windows games on Linux. It can be useful if the native build fails, if a future update temporarily causes a problem, or if a particular third-party tool requires the Windows executable. Proton is not a separate WorldBox edition, and its behavior can vary with Steam updates, Proton versions, graphics drivers, and desktop configurations.
For general information about Linux game support and Steam Play, see Valve’s Steam Linux support documentation.

Fix WorldBox if it will not launch on Ubuntu
Work through these steps in order:
- Restart Steam and Ubuntu. This clears many temporary client and graphics-session problems.
- Install pending Ubuntu updates. An old system library or kernel can prevent Steam games from starting.
- Update the graphics driver. NVIDIA systems may need a properly installed supported proprietary driver; AMD and Intel systems generally depend on the current Mesa stack supplied by Ubuntu.
- Check the basics. Confirm that the system is 64-bit, the game is installed on a writable local library, and adequate storage remains available.
- Verify the game files. In Steam, open Library, right-click WorldBox, choose Properties, then open Installed Files and select the option to verify the integrity of the files. Steam will redownload damaged or missing files.
- Disable possible interference. Temporarily turn off Steam overlays and third-party launchers or monitoring tools that may interfere with startup.
- Try another graphics session. If the failure appears tied to the desktop environment or display stack, testing an X11 session instead of Wayland can help identify the cause. This is a troubleshooting possibility, not a universal requirement.
- Test Proton. Use the Compatibility setting described above only after the native Linux installation has been checked.
- Use official support. Consult the WorldBox Steam support page for game-specific help.
Valve’s general Linux troubleshooting guidance also recommends updating Linux, verifying files, and checking for interfering applications when a game remains stuck at “Preparing to Launch.”
Avoid copying random launch commands from forums as universal fixes. Unverified graphics overrides can conceal driver problems or create new rendering errors.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Ubuntu version caveats
Use a current, supported 64-bit Ubuntu release with updated graphics drivers. Do not assume that an obsolete Ubuntu version will work simply because the game’s hardware requirements are low.
Valve states that Linux distributions using a glibc version older than 2.31 are no longer supported by the Steam client after August 15, 2025. If Steam itself will not install or launch, upgrade Ubuntu before treating the problem as a WorldBox issue. See Valve’s Linux support notice for the current policy.

Is WorldBox free on Ubuntu?
The Steam client is free, but the Steam listing presents WorldBox as a paid game. The U.S. price was $19.99 when checked in August 2026, subject to regional pricing, taxes, currency conversion, and sales.
Do not assume that owning the Android or iOS edition automatically grants the Steam edition. Mobile purchases and Steam purchases are separate unless the developer explicitly states otherwise. Mobile APK download pages are not an official Ubuntu installation method.
Bottom line
Install Steam from Valve, open the official WorldBox store page, and choose the Linux-compatible Steam installation. WorldBox is listed for SteamOS + Linux, so Ubuntu users should start with the native build. Update Ubuntu and graphics drivers and verify the files if it fails to launch; use Proton as a fallback rather than the default installation method.
