If Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO crashes or will not start on PS5, install the latest game and system updates, restart the console, then troubleshoot based on whether you own the disc or digital version. Bandai Namco’s September 4, 2026 update notice lists PS5 version 3022.021.003.012.015 and says it improved operational stability, but it does not identify a crash-specific fix. Check your PS5 for the latest update rather than assuming that version is still current.
Start with updates and a restart
- On the PS5 Home screen, highlight the game, press the Options button, and choose Check for Update. Install any update offered.
- Check that the PS5 system software is up to date in Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Restart the console and try the game again.
Bandai Namco’s September 4, 2026 update notice lists version 3022.021.003.012.015 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It says, “動作の安定性を向上させました,” meaning operational stability was improved, and notes that the update is required for online play. The notice does not say that crashing was specifically fixed.
If the game will not start, check its storage location
If the game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and test again. PlayStation includes this as a startup troubleshooting step; it does not establish that external storage is the cause of every launch failure. See PlayStation’s game launch troubleshooting guide.
Troubleshoot by copy type
Disc edition
- Inspect the disc and gently wipe it with a clean, soft cloth.
- Check for game and PS5 system updates, then try launching the game without the existing save as a diagnostic test.
- If it still crashes, delete the installed game data and reinstall from the disc.
- If this is the only disc that causes the problem, PlayStation advises contacting the retailer about replacement. If multiple discs have problems, use PlayStation’s repair guidance.
Digital edition
- Confirm the download and installation have finished, then check for game and system updates.
- Try starting a new game without the existing save as a diagnostic test.
- If the crash continues, delete the game and download it again from your library.
- If it will not start, PlayStation also lists restoring licenses and using Safe Mode to clear the cache or rebuild the database as troubleshooting options.
PlayStation’s game crash troubleshooting guide covers both copy types. Trying the game without an existing save can help isolate whether the issue is related to that save; it does not prove the save is corrupted.

Back up saves before reset or system software reinstallation
Do not jump to a PS5 reset or system software reinstallation as an early fix. Back up saved data first: PlayStation warns that resetting erases data stored on the console. Follow the relevant instructions in its crash guide before using those more disruptive steps.

The official material establishes general PS5 troubleshooting and a stability update, not a confirmed universal cause or fix for Sparking! ZERO crashes.
