In a report published October 8, 2024, PCGamesN said producer Jun Furutani described adding it for launch as difficult and said its future status was unknown. That is a launch-era account—not confirmation that crossplay can never be added, or an answer about the game’s status today.
What the producer said about crossplay
PCGamesN’s October 8, 2024 report, based on an IGN interview with producer Jun Furutani, said the team found implementing crossplay difficult and that the future answer was “we don’t know yet.” The report paraphrases the interview; it does not provide a verified full quote from Furutani, so the wording should not be treated as a verbatim transcript.
The comment explains why crossplay was absent at launch, but it is not a promise that the feature would arrive later or proof that it is permanently impossible.
Does Sparking! ZERO have crossplay now?
The available sources establish that crossplay was absent at launch, but they do not establish whether it was added afterward. Bandai Namco’s later announcements cover additional platforms, updates and downloadable content without confirming cross-platform matchmaking. So a current yes-or-no answer is not supported by these sources.

For the latest status, check the game’s current official platform information or ask support before buying if playing online with someone on a different platform is essential. Do not assume that a new platform release or an online multiplayer feature means players can match across platforms.
Platforms and multiplayer are not the same as crossplay
Bandai Namco lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as platforms for the game. That list describes where the game is available; it does not establish that players on those systems share online matchmaking.

Bandai Namco confirms online and local multiplayer for the Switch versions. Separately, its December 12, 2024 update announcement said local multiplayer had been expanded across all playable stages on the earlier platform release. Local play means playing together on the same system; it does not answer whether players on different systems can meet online.

How to decide whether you can play with a friend
- Same platform family: If you both own the game on the same platform, check that platform’s current online requirements and the game’s multiplayer options.
- Different platforms: Do not rely on the platform list as proof of crossplay. The cited launch report said crossplay was absent then, and the later publisher materials cited here do not settle its current status.
- Same room: Local multiplayer is a separate option. Bandai Namco’s platform-specific announcements describe local play, but local multiplayer is not cross-platform online play.
- Buying the game: Confirm the exact platform and edition on the retailer listing. A purchase for one platform does not grant access on another or guarantee that online matchmaking is shared.
Release and platform timeline
- June 7, 2024: Bandai Namco announced an October 11, 2024 worldwide release, physical preorder options for PS5 and Xbox Series X, and Steam availability.
- October 8, 2024: PCGamesN reported Furutani’s launch-era comments about the difficulty and uncertain future of crossplay.
- December 12, 2024: Bandai Namco announced a local multiplayer update expanding play across all playable stages on the earlier platform release.
- November 14, 2025: Bandai Namco announced Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 availability and confirmed online and local multiplayer for those versions. It did not confirm cross-platform online play.
- January and July 2026: Later publisher materials covered producer updates, platforms and DLC, but did not resolve the crossplay question.
