At launch, Yajirobe earned the “real final boss” joke because his Senzu Bean healing could turn a fight into an endurance test. It was a player nickname for an unexpectedly frustrating matchup—not an official game mode, story title, or confirmed measure of his competitive standing today.
Why did players call Yajirobe the “final boss”?
The joke was the mismatch: Yajirobe is not presented as a cosmic Dragon Ball villain, but in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, launch-era reports described a version of him who could be difficult to finish off. Players were reacting to the way a modest-looking opponent could make a ranked match feel like a drawn-out survival test.
Bandai Namco announced that DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO launched on October 11, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game was developed by Spike Chunsoft. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement provides that release context.
Why was Yajirobe considered overpowered?
In an October 13, 2024 report, Spanish-language outlet Meristation described Yajirobe as starting with four health bars and being able to recover health with Senzu Bean after building five energy bars. That combination—substantial health and a powerful heal—could make an opponent’s progress feel as if it had been erased. This is a contemporary description of launch-era play, not a verified specification for the current version.

#1 Best Overall
- Engage in heart-pounding, high-speed 3D battles that stay true to the anime and video game series
- This game contains breathtaking visuals and authentic combat moves like beam clashes, rush attacks, and movements too quick for the eyes to see
- Step into an arena that reacts to your every action including planet-razing ultimate attacks
- Watch the environment respond with stunning realism, and leave a trail of destruction in your wake as you battle to your heart’s content
That perceived loop explains the “final boss” label: rather than defeating a character once, opponents felt they might have to overcome his health and then deal with a major recovery. The nickname is an interpretation of the mechanic and player reaction, not a measured finding about match length or win rates.
What did players say about fighting him?
An October 17, 2024 Steam Community discussion includes one player calling Yajirobe “ridiculously overpowered” and saying “he just outlasts you with his heal.” Those comments show that the complaint existed in the community; they do not establish how common the opinion was among all players.

No player survey, pick-rate data, win-rate analysis, or tournament dataset in the available sources quantifies how dominant Yajirobe was. The evidence supports a launch-era frustration and a memorable joke, not a claim that he was objectively the game’s strongest fighter.
Did later updates change Yajirobe’s balance?
Bandai Namco’s June 23, 2025 patch notes for version Ver.2013.012.003.008.007 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC describe broad changes, including skill-count recovery adjustments and equalized health for all characters in Single Battles. The notes do not name Yajirobe, so they cannot establish a character-specific change to his Senzu Bean or current balance.

Bandai Namco’s December 12, 2024 update notes also list system and character changes without naming Yajirobe in the inspected material. A January 20, 2025 update mentions a limited-time mode against an “extremely powerful character,” but does not identify that character as Yajirobe. These references should not be treated as evidence of a Yajirobe balance adjustment.
As of October 2026, the sources cited here do not settle whether later character-specific changes altered him. The “final boss” label is best understood as a launch-era meme, rather than a reliable description of his live competitive status.

Why the joke stuck
Yajirobe became memorable because the reported healing mechanic created an absurd contrast: a comparatively low-profile character could make a match feel tougher and longer than expected. In that launch-era context, calling him the “real final boss” captured the frustration of facing a fighter who seemed to get another chance just when the opponent thought the job was done.
