Goku and Vegeta are playable in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, the official title of the game often called “Budokai Tenkaichi 4” by fans. The official roster includes multiple represented versions of both characters. Bandai Namco announced 181 playable characters at launch; later figures and DLC additions should be read with their dates and counting context in mind.
Is Goku and Vegeta in the Budokai Tenkaichi 4 roster?
Yes. Bandai Namco’s official roster lists playable entries for Goku and Vegeta, with multiple versions of each represented. They are also two of the eight characters whose perspectives anchor Episode Battle, the game’s story mode. “Budokai Tenkaichi 4” is a fan shorthand; the publisher’s official name is DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, described as a successor in the DRAGON BALL Z: BUDOKAI TENKAICHI series. Bandai Namco’s game description uses that official framing.

How many playable characters are in Sparking! ZERO?
The answer depends on the date and what a count includes. Bandai Namco announced 181 playable characters for the game’s launch in 2024. Its corporate overview later reported 182 characters as of December 31, 2024. These are separately dated publisher figures, and the sources do not establish a single shared counting method. The launch announcement and the later corporate overview therefore should not be treated as interchangeable totals.
| Figure | What it describes | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| 181 playable characters | Announced launch roster | Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc., 2024; launch announcement |
| 182 characters | Roster figure reported as of December 31, 2024 | Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., 2025; corporate overview |
| 33 playable characters | Characters added by the announced Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC | Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc., July 30, 2026; DLC announcement |
Do not add these numbers together to produce a current roster total. The figures have different dates and contexts, and the official material does not define a common method for counting character forms, named individuals, DLC, or bonus entries.

What did the 2026 NEO DLC add?
Bandai Namco’s July 30, 2026 announcement says the Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC adds 33 playable characters, including Vegeta (GT). That is a named addition in the announcement, not a basis for deriving a definitive cumulative roster count. At the time of that announcement, the DLC was available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with Nintendo Switch versions planned for a later date. Availability can differ by platform and date, so consult the publisher’s announcement for its dated platform details.
What can you do with the roster?
Episode Battle
Episode Battle follows eight characters’ story perspectives, including Goku and Vegeta, and features branching story paths. It offers a way to experience the conflict through different character viewpoints rather than treating the roster as only a list of selectable fighters. Bandai Namco’s Episode Battle materials describe the mode.

Custom Battle
Custom Battle lets players create and share scenarios. The publisher describes the mode alongside the game’s battle and story features. See Bandai Namco’s mode information.

When comparing a roster page, launch announcement, or post-launch update, check three things before treating the numbers as a contradiction:
Rank #3
- Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero takes the legendary gameplay of the Budokai Tenkaichi series to a whole new level.
- Use the destructive power of the strongest fighters ever competed in Dragon Ball!
- Learn and master an incredible group of playable characters, each with individual skills, transformations and techniques.
- Date: Is the list describing launch, a later snapshot, or a DLC announcement?
- Counting unit: Does it count character entries or forms, distinct named individuals, or both? The official sources cited here do not define one common method across all figures.
- Included content: Does the figure include downloadable or bonus characters, or only the roster being discussed at that point?
For Goku and Vegeta, the practical answer is straightforward: both are playable, and the official roster represents multiple versions of each. For a total, use the figure whose date and scope match the question rather than presenting a launch number as a permanent count.
