ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition is the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, released August 28, 2026. It includes the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, four new armor sets, two new starting classes, and three ways to change Torrent’s appearance. If you already own Elden Ring on a supported PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam platform, you can get the added content there through the separate Tarnished Pack instead.
What is Elden Ring Tarnished Edition?
Tarnished Edition is a Nintendo Switch 2 release of FromSoftware’s dark fantasy action RPG. The official game page labels it “Nintendo Switch 2 Only,” and Bandai Namco announced it as available on August 28, 2026. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement and Nintendo’s US product listing confirm the platform and release.

What’s included?
- The base game: The open-world action RPG, with connected fields and dungeons, weapons, spells, summons, exploration, and character-building choices.
- Shadow of the Erdtree: The expansion is bundled with the game rather than sold separately in this edition.
- Four new armor sets.
- Two new starting classes.
- Three Torrent appearance options: These let you change the look of your spectral steed.

Tarnished Edition vs. Tarnished Pack
The names refer to different purchase options. Tarnished Edition is the complete Switch 2 game bundle. Tarnished Pack is the separately sold additional content for specified existing versions of Elden Ring; it is not the full game and requires the base game.

How multiplayer works on Switch 2
Nintendo describes cooperative play with up to two other Tarnished, either by invitation using a shared password or by summoning players from a nearby community pool. Its product article also lists competitive options including invasions, invited duels, and Colosseum battles. Nintendo’s product article explains the co-op options. The official Japanese edition page says Nintendo Switch Online, a paid service, is required for multiplayer; confirm the current terms for your region. The official sources cited here confirm the release, contents, and platform, but do not provide independent measured frame-rate, resolution, battery-life, or cross-platform performance results. The edition’s availability on Switch 2 alone is not evidence of how it performs relative to other versions.
Should you buy Tarnished Edition or Tarnished Pack?
- Choose Tarnished Edition if you want to play on Switch 2 or need the base game and expansion together.
- Consider Tarnished Pack if you already own the base game on one of its listed PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam platforms and want the new content there.
- Compare local totals: The Switch 2 listing and Japan add-on price above apply to different markets and products. Check the current price where you buy, including whether you need to purchase the base game separately.
The Japanese official page also describes a limited physical package with a background-and-map poster, gesture code, and original case.
