There is no defensible, source-verified current ranking of the best Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO characters in the available evidence. A useful tier list needs to name its mode, platform, roster and patch—and explain how the fighters were compared. Without those details, an ordered list risks treating online PvP, offline play and team formats as if they reward the same strengths.
Why a single “best character” list can mislead
Sparking! ZERO supports online and offline play, tournaments, story battles and player-created battles, according to the official game page. Those settings do not necessarily ask the same thing of a fighter. A character’s ease of use, pressure, defensive options, resource demands or value in a team can matter differently depending on the format.
So “best” needs a defined target: for example, online PvP in a specified format, rather than an all-purpose verdict for every player and mode. A list should also make clear whether it ranks solo fighters or accounts for team and DP fit.
Use the current roster and update date
The roster has expanded since launch. Bandai Namco announced that Super Limit-Breaking NEO, released July 30, 2026, added 33 playable characters. The expansion also brought four Episode Battles, Extra Battles, four stages and Limit Breaker Journey, a solo progression mode. Its launch announcement describes two mechanics introduced in the accompanying free update: Sparking Boost and Chain Blast. Bandai Namco’s announcement provides the content details; the official DLC listing names the included characters.

That 33-character addition makes older lists potentially incomplete. The often-cited figure of 182 characters comes from Bandai Namco Holdings’ February 2025 corporate overview and describes the launch-era game, not the expanded roster after later DLC. The overview should not be used as a current roster count.
What the latest located update does—and does not—say
Bandai Namco’s latest located notice is for an update beginning September 4, 2026. For PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, it identifies version 3022.021.003.012.015. Its listed changes adjust CPU behavior, fix a Jiren Episode Battle trophy issue and improve overall stability. The notice does not list character balance adjustments, so it does not establish that fighter strength changed in this update. See the September 4 update notice for its platform and version details.

The official game page also lists Switch and Switch 2. Because the cited September notice gives a version for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, do not assume that version number applies to the Nintendo platforms.
What a credible tier list should disclose
Before trusting character placements, check whether the author states the conditions under which they were judged. A sound comparison should include:

- Mode and format: online PvP, offline play, tournament rules, solo or team format.
- Version and date: the update used, and when the judgments were made.
- Roster scope: base-game fighters only or DLC as well, with the included packs identified.
- Platform: where relevant to the comparison, especially if versions or available updates differ.
- Method: firsthand testing or clearly attributed tournament or community evidence, plus the criteria used to distinguish tiers.
Useful criteria include consistency, execution difficulty, offensive pressure, defensive options, resource requirements, team value and performance against common opponents. These are evaluation questions, not proof that any particular fighter belongs in a given tier.

A community page titled “Sparking Zero Tier List: Best Characters for Online PvP” exists, but its available information does not verify a complete ranking current to the September 2026 update or establish a transparent methodology. It therefore cannot substantiate exact placements here. If you consult a tier list, look for its date, patch, format, roster and evidence before treating its order as a current recommendation.

For a player choosing a character, the practical answer is to start with the mode and format they actually play, then compare fighters using criteria that matter there. A universal ordered list without those boundaries may be easy to scan, but it cannot reliably answer who is best for a particular player or match.
