Best Class to Use in Legacy: Steel & Sorcery? Choose by Playstyle

The official evidence supports choosing a class by playstyle, not by a universal ranking. Here are the documented class differences and why the advice is now historical.

There is no officially established best class in Legacy: Steel & Sorcery. The game’s official Steam description presents its classes as distinct playstyles, with abilities that change how you fight and move through the environment. Historically, the right pick depended on what you wanted to do—not on a verified class ranking. The game was later renamed Eldegarde, and its developer announced that it would be taken offline indefinitely on March 31, 2026, so these recommendations are historical unless an official return is confirmed.

Which class should you choose?

Choose based on the kind of combat and environmental interaction you prefer. The official listing names six classes—Warrior, Rogue, Hunter, Priest, Wizard, and Paladin—but it does not publish a tier list, win rates, or a comparative balance ranking. That means there is no supported basis for calling one class best for every player, or best for solo, PvP, PvE, or beginners.

Class Documented detail What that supports
Warrior The official listing says Warriors can charge through walls and hurl boulders. A historically documented choice if you want abilities that interact forcefully with the environment.
Priest The official listing says Priests can levitate over hazards and away from enemies. A historically documented choice if you value movement that can bypass hazards or create distance.
Rogue The official listing names the class, but does not provide a specific ability detail in the cited description. Choose only if its broader playstyle appeals; the available official details do not support a more specific recommendation.
Hunter The official listing names the class, but does not provide a specific ability detail in the cited description. Choose only if its broader playstyle appeals; the available official details do not support a more specific recommendation.
Wizard The official listing names the class; the cited material does not establish a comparative performance ranking. No verified ranking is available to recommend it over another class.
Paladin The developer described it as a class for either “the classic Sword & Shield or the crushing power of a Greathammer.” The announcement signals a choice of weapon approach, not proof of superior performance.

These are the specific class details supported by the official material, not a complete ability guide. For Warrior and Priest, the examples suggest different ways of changing an encounter through the environment; they do not establish which class wins more often.

What the official evidence can—and cannot—tell you

The official Steam store describes the game as a third-person action PvPvE RPG and says classes have distinct abilities and ways of interacting with the environment. That supports choosing by preferred approach: consider whether you want to push through obstacles, move over hazards, or use another class’s style. It does not establish a best class for any particular mode or skill level.

No decision-relevant class win-rate figures or official tier ranking are provided in the cited material. The six class names alone are not enough to infer ability kits, matchups, difficulty, or balance. In particular, the Warrior and Priest examples should not be treated as a full class comparison.

Why this is a historical recommendation

Legacy: Steel & Sorcery was renamed Eldegarde, according to the developer’s official Steam announcement. The developer later announced that the game would be taken offline indefinitely on March 31, 2026. As of October 4, 2026, the available official evidence does not confirm that service has returned, so treat the class advice as historical rather than as guidance for a currently playable game.

  • Sword & Sorcery is an epic-fantasy cooperative board game in which 1-5 players fight together against the forces of evil, which are controlled by the game system itself
  • Designed by Gremlin Project (the same team who created Galaxy Defenders), the game system in Sword & Sorcery represents the perfect evolution of its forerunner
  • Key features of Galaxy Defenders have been carried over, such as the advanced AI system for monsters, a high degree of character customization, and the multiple tactical options during battles

The studio website labels Legacy: Steel & Sorcery as pre-alpha, which conflicts with the historical Steam listing and later announcements. That label alone does not establish that the former service is playable or that it has relaunched. Check current official Steam announcements for any return notice before planning to play.
