Why is the new Dragon Ball hero a meme?
The early reveal gave fans a new protagonist to speculate about, but no personal name. In a Reddit thread titled “How did guy become a meme already?”, commenters joked about the character as “John Dragon Ball,” posted “THE MIMIC?!?” and guessed at what he might be called. Those examples help explain the joke: fans were reacting to a newly presented, still-unnamed hero.

That thread is an anecdotal snapshot of fan humor, not a poll or measure of how many people share the jokes. A separate discussion on r/dbz around the game’s later identification as Xenoverse 3 shows a mix of reactions and speculation, but likewise cannot establish a consensus. Who is the protagonist, officially?
The hero is the player character; the official material reviewed here does not give them a personal name. The game’s official description says the protagonist arrives in AGE 1000 from another era and appears not to remember their identity. They attend West City University and join the Great Saiya Squad.

Official character profiles also introduce Brett, Tap, ROM and Lilica. Brett is described as an aspiring hero and friendly rival who sees the protagonist as someone he can teach. Those details give the character a place in the story, but do not make any fan nickname canonical. The Dragon Ball Official Site’s June 23, 2026 update has the game and character details.
AGE 1000 is now officially Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3
Bandai Namco announced Dragon Ball Game Project “AGE 1000” on January 26, 2026, after the project appeared at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event on January 25. Its announcement described a new Dragon Ball world and original characters designed by Akira Toriyama, with a 2027 target. The official Dragon Ball site later identified the game as Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. AGE 1000 was the project label, not a separate confirmed game. Bandai Namco’s announcement records the original reveal.

What has been announced about release and platforms?
Toei Animation describes Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 as a story-driven RPG in the Xenoverse series, set in West City in AGE 1000. Its announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC, with a planned 2027 release. That is a release plan, not a guaranteed date; no Switch version is established by the cited announcement. No. The official Dragon Ball update says the game’s audio and visuals are still under development and may differ from the final version. Treat the reveal as an early look rather than confirmation of finished graphics, sound or gameplay.
