Project AGE 1000 became DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3
Bandai Namco first announced Project AGE 1000 in January 2026 as a new Dragon Ball world featuring original characters designed by Akira Toriyama. The Dragon Ball Official Site confirmed the game’s title, DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3, in April 2026. The game is planned for 2027; no exact release date has been announced in the official material covered here.

Later official trailers and demo coverage added details about the setting, the player avatar, and combat. The nickname “John Dragon Ball” is fan phrasing, not the protagonist’s official name.
Who is the character being called “John Dragon Ball”?
The official June 2026 trailer describes the protagonist as arriving in AGE 1000 from another era and seemingly without their memories. They become a student at West City University and join the Great Saiya Squad. The game presents this character as the player’s protagonist, rather than identifying them as a separately named canon character.

September’s official trailer update says players can choose from six avatar races and shows avatars using Super Fighter techniques. It also cautions that the game’s audio and visuals remain under development and may differ from the final version.
Does the protagonist steal other characters’ moves?
That description goes further than the official information establishes. In the June trailer, the protagonist absorbs a soul-like object and transforms into a familiar character. The accompanying demo coverage calls the mechanic Soul Switch and reports a playable transformation into Future Trunks (Z). These materials show a transformation mechanic; they do not say that the avatar permanently takes another character’s moves.

What the demo says about combat
The June demo report describes three attack types: Defense Breaker, Ki Drain, and Critical Strike. In the demo, a Critical Strike-type move against an enemy in Ki Break triggers a special animation. These are details reported from a demo and could change before release.

Community posts use “John Dragon Ball” and “John 1000” as jokes about the player avatar’s generic-looking, original-character design. One post says, “He’s actually John Dragon Ball”; another asks how the character “become a meme already?” Those posts document examples of the nicknames, but they do not establish who first used them or how widespread the joke is among fans.

The “move-stealing” framing is similarly best read as fan shorthand for the transformation shown in the trailer, not as a confirmed description of permanent move copying.
