If Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot freezes or stops responding on Xbox, start by fully quitting the game and restarting the console. Then compare another save, test a wired connection if you play over Wi-Fi, and consider reinstalling only after checking the Xbox prompts so you do not delete saved data. Bandai Namco lists several troubleshooting actions, but none is a guaranteed fix for every freeze.
Try these seven fixes in order
1. Fully quit the game and restart the Xbox
- Open the Xbox guide, highlight Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and choose Quit if that option is available.
- Restart the console using its restart option rather than simply returning to the home screen.
- Launch the game again and note whether it freezes at the same point.
Bandai Namco’s Xbox Series X|S troubleshooting FAQ recommends restarting the console. Fully quitting before the restart is a practical first check; the FAQ does not identify it as a separate guaranteed remedy.
2. Check for Xbox and game updates
Install any available Xbox system or game update, then retry the same activity. Checking updates is sensible general troubleshooting, but it is not one of the four actions listed in the reviewed Kakarot FAQ. If the game has just updated, note its version if Xbox displays it; that detail may help support identify what changed.
3. Compare with a different save
Load another save, if available, and see whether the same freeze occurs. Avoid overwriting the original save while testing. If the problem appears only with one save, record that fact for Bandai Namco support; it is a useful comparison, not proof that the save is corrupt. Bandai Namco’s FAQ specifically recommends checking whether the symptom also occurs with a different save.

4. Test a wired connection if you use Wi-Fi
If your Xbox is on Wi-Fi, connect it to the router with Ethernet and check whether the symptom changes. Bandai Namco recommends switching to a wired connection as a diagnostic step. This is most relevant when the freeze coincides with online activity; it is not a general fix for freezes caused by game data or the console. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one option if you need a cable for the test.
5. Reinstall the game carefully
Bandai Namco’s FAQ includes reinstalling the game among its troubleshooting actions and links to its game-data instructions. Follow the exact on-screen prompts and the publisher’s instructions. Pay close attention to any choice involving saved data: do not select an option that deletes your saves. Bandai Namco warns that users carry out its reinstall steps at their own responsibility, so do not proceed if the console wording is unclear.

6. If you upgraded from Xbox One, check whether the old transfer issue applies
This step is relevant only if you moved from the Xbox One version to Xbox Series X|S and the freeze began around an upgrade or save/version transfer. Bandai Namco Europe reported a specific Xbox One-version upgrade problem on January 20, 2023, which could block progression. The publisher later said a patch scheduled for February 3, 2023 resolved that issue. It is a historical, specific incident—not evidence that it explains current freezes generally. Check that the game is updated and consult Bandai Namco’s Xbox Series X upgrade instructions if a transfer message appears. Those February 2, 2023 instructions said the download and conversion required an internet connection and more than 50 GB of storage.
7. Contact Bandai Namco if the freeze continues
If the listed troubleshooting does not resolve the behavior, use the inquiry route in Bandai Namco’s FAQ. Include details that help support reproduce and narrow down the issue:
