If Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot opens to a black screen or stops responding while loading on PC, work through these checks one at a time: confirm your PC meets the listed requirements, verify the Steam installation, update Windows and your graphics driver, then test security and display settings. Before you start: is the game actually stuck?
A black window can mean the game has stopped responding, but it can also point to a display-mode or resolution problem. Note when the screen goes black and whether the game remains responsive. Its checklist is general guidance, not a confirmed diagnosis of a Kakarot-specific fault. Steam’s game listing provides the PC requirements and support route.

Restart the PC and Steam
Close the game and Steam, restart Windows, then open Steam and try again. This is a low-risk housekeeping check, not a documented Kakarot-specific fix.

Verify the Steam game files
In Steam, open your Library, right-click DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish before launching again. Capcom’s general Steam troubleshooting guidance includes checking game files; verification can identify installation problems but is not guaranteed to resolve a black screen. Install available Windows updates
Open Windows Update in Settings, check for updates, install available updates, and restart if prompted. Retest the game before moving to another change.

Update your graphics driver from its manufacturer
Check for a driver update through the official support software or website for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics hardware. Avoid third-party driver-download sites. Restart Windows after installation if requested, then launch the game again.

Close background applications and overlays
Close unnecessary applications before starting the game. If you use overlays, disable them temporarily as a diagnostic check, then retest. General Steam-game guidance recommends closing other applications; it does not establish overlays as a confirmed cause of this particular issue.

Check your security software
Review your security product’s alerts or quarantine for a game file that may have been blocked. If you trust the installation and the product supports it, add the game folder or files to its exclusion list. Do not leave antivirus or other protection turned off as a workaround.

Review administrator and compatibility settings
Check whether the game executable has been set to run in Compatibility Mode or with administrator privileges. Capcom’s general checklist recommends reviewing these settings, including disabling Compatibility Mode if it is enabled. Change one setting at a time and restore the original setting if it makes no difference.

Test the other display mode and your resolution
If you can reach the game’s display settings, compare fullscreen with borderless-window mode. Also check that Windows is using your monitor’s normal resolution. Test only one change per launch. A Steam Community guide discusses display mode, resolution, and VSync, but it is community advice—not evidence that any of these settings fixes Kakarot loading screens. Your result on your own setup is what matters.

Clear the shader cache using a supported procedure
Capcom’s general troubleshooting list includes deleting shader-cache files. Use the procedure documented for your Windows version or graphics hardware, and avoid deleting game folders, saved games, or unrelated files. The cache may be rebuilt after you clear it, so the next launch may take longer.

Collect details and contact support
If the screen is still black, record your Windows version, CPU and GPU models, graphics-driver version, when the screen turns black, whether Windows reports the game as not responding, and the checks you have already tried. Capcom asks users to provide detailed information when visual or audio problems or crashes remain. Use the support route on the Steam listing for the game.
