The Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remake is already out: DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake launched on October 30, 2025. One of its most substantial additions is an underwater adventure in Dragon Quest II, where players can explore the Seabed, meet merfolk in Mersea, and find new locations, encounters, and story events.
What new content is in the Dragon Quest 1 and 2 remake?
The Seabed is the headline addition described for Dragon Quest II. In September 2025, Square Enix outlined underwater ship travel and a new region beneath the ocean’s surface. The publisher’s description presents it as more than a brief detour: it includes a merfolk town, dungeons, sunken ships, and story material tied to Hargon’s forces.
Explore the Seabed and Mersea
Players can sail by ship across the ocean’s surface and travel underwater to reach the Seabed. Below are the merfolk and their town, Mersea, alongside dungeons and other locations. The announced locations also include the Mermaids’ Sanctuary and sunken ships. Square Enix’s Seabed feature describes this new area and its story details.
New story encounters
The Seabed material introduces two mermaids and a threat from Hargon’s minions. It also names Mariella as one of Hargon’s Champions. These are specific announced additions, not a complete account of every change to either game’s plot.

Square Enix’s September 23, 2025 New Content Trailer also calls out hidden scrolls, sigils, and a tombola. The trailer description presents them as highlights; it does not provide a full inventory of remake additions.
How the remake packages the two games
The remake contains both adventures in one package, and the Steam listing says each can be selected from the start screen. Its description also mentions new towns, castles, caves, and dungeons in Dragon Quest II, ship travel, and traditional turn-based battles. The listing describes a party featuring the Prince of Midenhall, Prince of Cannock, Princess of Moonbrooke, and a Princess of Cannock character new to this version. Because that character naming is potentially confusing in the store text, check the game’s official materials before relying on it for a detailed party guide. The Seabed, its locations and encounters, and the trailer’s named collectibles and tombola are documented examples of additions. They should not be mistaken for a complete change log or a full comparison with the original releases. The available feature descriptions establish that Dragon Quest II has new underwater story and exploration content, but do not specify every gameplay, balance, or narrative change across both remakes.
