Find the Beast Claws in Theddon, the Dark Robe in Cantlin, and the Sage’s Stone in Lozamii; return to the Bard after each item to turn it in and receive the next clue.
Where to find the Bard
The riddle chain becomes available after you reach the post-game. After defeating Zoma, return to the Castle of the Dragon Queen and enter the light leading to the Heaven area. Travel through the Mysterious Cave to its final floor, then leave for Cloudsgate Citadel. The Bard is in the citadel’s northeastern area.
Speak with the King first if you want to mark Cloudsgate Citadel for Zoom, as described in the GameFAQs walkthrough. Talk to the Bard to receive the first riddle. After finding each item, return and speak with him to hand it over and get the next clue.
Riddle 1: Theddon — Beast Claws
The “sad, shattered town” is Theddon. Travel there during the day and search beneath the cross in the ruined church or temple area to collect the Beast Claws. A trident is mentioned as a nearby landmark in some walkthroughs, but the item is found under the cross.

Return to the Bard at Cloudsgate Citadel and speak with him to turn in the claws and receive the second riddle.
Riddle 2: Cantlin — Dark Robe
The clue about flowers points to Cantlin. Search the flowerbed or planter by the western house area to find the Dark Robe.

Walkthroughs vary on the exact house description: some place it by a central-western building, while others describe a house southwest of the Inn or the planter in front of the western house. Use the flowerbed or planter around Cantlin’s western houses as the landmark rather than relying on one compass direction. The shared location is corroborated by Game8, RPG Site, and the GameFAQs walkthrough.
Bring the Dark Robe back to the Bard to receive the final clue.

Riddle 3: Lozamii — Sage’s Stone
The final destination is Lozamii. Enter the building with the astronomer or telescope, go upstairs, and search the floor beside the astronomer—guides specify the right side—to find the Sage’s Stone.
Return to Cloudsgate Citadel and speak with the Bard to turn in the stone and complete the sequence. Walkthroughs report that he then gives information about Mini Medals.

Platform notes
The riddle locations and rewards are in-game content shared across the listed versions. Square Enix’s official DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake FAQ says, “The game’s content is the same across all versions, but there are graphical differences due to each platform’s specifications.” Square Enix lists Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Microsoft Store on Windows as platforms; its Japanese product announcement documents physical editions for Switch and PS5.
Nintendo’s official Switch listing notes Switch 2 support through an update to the Switch version. Because the riddle chain is platform-neutral, use the directions above regardless of platform.
