Capcom scheduled this Switch 2 edition for October 9, 2026, combining the main game and expansion in one package. The settings guidance below reflects launch-week reviews, not post-launch patch testing; check the options in your current build.

What settings should you change for better performance on Switch 2?
Start with the pair that matches your priority, then compare it in a demanding area rather than judging from a quiet opening scene.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall- For a consistent baseline: select the locked 30fps option and turn Frame Generation off. This is a practical starting point, not a reviewer-backed universal best. RPG Site’s reviewer preferred Frame Generation off after trying the default combination. GameWatcher reported that the 30fps cap does not bring a resolution or visual-quality increase.
- For smoother-looking motion: try variable frame rate with Frame Generation on, then repeat the same test with Frame Generation off. Nintendo Life preferred variable frame rate overall, while GameWatcher recommended trying the variable-rate and frame-generation combination, particularly with a VRR-compatible display.
- If control response or image artifacts bother you: switch Frame Generation off and compare again. RPG Site reported perceived input lag and occasional hair or head visual issues; GameWatcher also noticed hair oddities during fast camera movement. These are review observations, not guaranteed effects for every player or build.
Test your preferred combination in a busy town and during combat. Reviewers reported occasional choppiness, and their impressions differed between handheld and docked play.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
How the graphics options differ
Locked 30fps
This sets a predictable target for the game’s frame rate and makes a useful baseline for comparison. It does not, according to GameWatcher, inherently improve resolution or visual quality. Motion may look less fluid than with generated frames.
Variable frame rate
This lets the game run above the 30fps cap when scene performance permits. The tradeoff is that pacing can be less consistent; Nintendo Life observed occasional choppiness. A variable-rate option is not a promise of native 60fps.
FSR 3 Frame Generation
Frame Generation creates interpolated frames to make motion appear smoother; it is not the same as raising the game’s underlying rendered-frame cadence. The visual result can include oddities, and some players may find the controls feel less direct. Reviewers differed in their preferences, so compare it on your own display rather than assuming it will help or hurt everyone.

Compare settings in your play mode
Use the same location, camera movement, and activity for each test. Change one option at a time so you can tell whether the difference comes from the frame-rate mode or Frame Generation.
- Choose a demanding town area and note how smooth camera movement and control response feel.
- Test the 30fps lock with Frame Generation off as your baseline.
- Switch to variable frame rate while leaving Frame Generation off, then repeat the same movement and activity.
- Turn Frame Generation on without changing the frame-rate option. Compare the image during fast camera movement and judge whether control response still feels comfortable.
- Repeat your preferred pair in combat, then compare handheld and docked play if you use both.
Switch 2 supports handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. The UK Nintendo product listing says HDR is available on compatible TVs. GameWatcher reported that brightness values are shared across portable and TV modes, including HDR and non-HDR, so recalibrate brightness when you switch modes.

Before release, producer Naoto Oyama told TechRadar that Capcom was seeing “a minimum 30 frames per second rate performance on that hardware (and, in many scenes, it’s even higher!).” That was a pre-release statement, not an independent test of the retail build. It does not establish a native 60fps mode.
