Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 9 October 2026. Its Switch 2 package includes both the original game and the new expansion, making this a substantial new way to play Capcom’s RPG on Nintendo hardware. Early review impressions describe a strong port with real performance and image-quality trade-offs—not a locked 60fps version, but a portable edition that appears to preserve much of the game’s appeal.
What is Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on Switch 2?
It is a combined edition of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and its new paid expansion, Dark Arisen. Capcom lists a 9 October 2026 release across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. On Switch 2, the base game and expansion come together in one package; on the other listed platforms, the expansion is sold as DLC for the existing game. Capcom’s announcement explains the platform and release details.
That distinction matters if you are choosing an edition: the Switch 2 package is not just expansion content that assumes you already own the original game. Nintendo UK lists the game as a one-player title for handheld, tabletop and TV modes, with a 49.6 GB download size and PEGI 18 rating. What does the Dark Arisen expansion add?
A new northern region and story
The expansion takes players to Norgan, a long-abandoned, snowy region north of the main game’s setting. There, the Arisen joins Eir to investigate the undying Fallen Dragon. Nintendo’s description also highlights relics that can be appraised to unlock weapons and skills, giving exploration a progression loop alongside the new story. Lost Rites and a different take on Dark Arisen
Nintendo identifies 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges, but director Kento Kinoshita says the expansion is less focused on dungeon crawling than the original Dark Arisen. In a GamesRadar+ interview, he describes a broader open-world region, a mystery to solve, supporting characters and a loot-oriented equipment cycle.
The name is a deliberate echo, not a claim that the two expansions are the same or that this is a remake. Kinoshita says the title reflects its connection to the new story, a loot cycle reminiscent of the original expansion and the value of using a familiar name to communicate what players can expect. The result is a thematic return to Dark Arisen within a new adventure.

How does Dragon’s Dogma 2 run on Switch 2?
Nintendo Life’s Switch 2 review is positive overall, describing the port as a strong Capcom effort and reporting performance much improved over Dragon’s Dogma 2 at its original launch. That praise comes with qualifications: the reviewer encountered significantly longer loading around Pawn rifts and cutscenes, occasional choppy frame-rate moments—more noticeably when docked—and a visible image-quality downgrade compared with PS5 Pro. These are that reviewer’s observations, not controlled benchmark results or a guarantee of identical performance for every player. Read Nintendo Life’s review.
The Switch 2 settings described in the review include FSR 3 Frame Generation, a locked 30fps option and a variable-frame-rate option. The reviewer found frame generation made the locked mode feel smoother, but generally preferred variable frame rate. That is a reported preference, not evidence that either setting is best for every player. The available review does not establish a locked 60fps mode, battery-life results or measured resolution figures.

For this game, the case for accepting those compromises is in its systems as much as its visuals. Nintendo Life praises the combat and the distinct feel of the ten vocations, as well as Pawn interactions and the unpredictable encounters that can interrupt a journey. Those qualities help explain why a portable version can be appealing even when it does not match the image quality of PS5 Pro.

The practical choice is portability and a bundled starting point on Switch 2 versus playing the expansion as DLC on a platform where you already own the original. The review’s visual comparison is specifically with PS5 Pro; it does not establish how Switch 2 compares with every PC configuration or other console mode.

Why this feels like Capcom coming full circle
The original Dragon’s Dogma received an expansion called Dark Arisen. Returning to that name for the second game’s expansion connects the new adventure to a recognizable part of the series’ history while signaling a loot-driven loop. It is a return in theme and naming, not a repetition of the earlier expansion’s design: this time, Capcom is emphasizing a new open-world region and story, with dungeon challenges as part of the journey.
The expansion also answers a clear request from players. Producer Naoto Oyama told GamesRadar+ that after the base game launched, players wanted more to explore and more combat, and Capcom worked to respond to that feedback. There is a broader series context, too, but it should not be mistaken for this expansion’s sales. Capcom reported more than 14 million cumulative Dragon’s Dogma series units sold as of 31 March 2026; that figure covers the franchise, not Dragon’s Dogma 2 or Dark Arisen individually. Capcom’s announcement attributes part of the series’ appeal to its autonomous Pawn companions.
