Where is the Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
First location: Mountain Shrine
Start from the Ancient Battleground, northeast of Checkpoint Rest Town. Pass through the ruined fortress and continue through Worldsend Cave to reach Mountain Shrine, where the Sphinx gives the first five riddles. PowerPyx provides a route overview in its Sphinx riddle guide.

Second location: Frontier Shrine
After the first five riddles, the Sphinx relocates to Frontier Shrine. Windows Central places it along the river west of Checkpoint Rest Town; reaching it involves a narrow passage and a fallen column. Completing the Reunion riddle there begins the second set.
What are all the Sphinx riddle answers?
The guides describe ten riddles in total: Eyes, Madness, Wisdom, Conviction, and Rumination at the first shrine, followed by Reunion, Differentiation, Futility, Recollection, and Contest at the second. The later five may appear in a variable order, so use the riddle’s name and objective rather than expecting a fixed sequence.

Mountain Shrine: first five riddles
- Eyes: Enter the room the Sphinx indicates and retrieve the Sealing Phial. Bring the phial back as your answer. The Sphinx’s dialogue for this riddle, as reproduced by Windows Central, says: “Our eyes are our allies, yet oft they betray, for eyes tell lies, so I advise, and thence do lead astray. Yet how will your eyes advise you? Venture through yonder door, and retrieve that which is of greatest value.”
- Madness: Bring the Sphinx a pawn or another NPC as your chosen beloved.
- Wisdom: Bring a pawn with the moniker SphinxParent, SphinxMother, or SphinxFather. Windows Central notes that the pawn does not have to be created by Capcom.
- Conviction: Offer an item for duplication. The guide recommends a valuable item such as a Portcrystal, so consider the cost of the item you choose.
- Rumination: Return to the place where you found your first Seeker’s Token, collect the new token there, and bring it back. The guide gives a seven-day window. If you have not yet found your first token, note its location when you do; the riddle depends on remembering that specific spot.
Frontier Shrine: later five riddles
- Reunion: Find the Sphinx again at Frontier Shrine.
- Differentiation: Identify and bring the specific NPC shown. Similar-looking NPCs can be easy to mistake, so compare the requested person carefully.
- Futility: Carry the fragile vase to the named NPC at the marked destination. Avoid damaging or breaking it on the way.
- Recollection: Place the number of statues matching the riddles you have answered correctly so far. Windows Central’s guide counts Reunion as an answered riddle.
- Contest: Win the combat challenge. The guide recommends using the environment or another available method to give the opponent an advantage before you defeat them.
What happens if you fail a Sphinx riddle?
The guides report one attempt per riddle, so a wrong answer can cost that riddle’s reward. PowerPyx warns that a mistake can lock the Full Marks trophy out for that playthrough. At Mountain Shrine, Windows Central says you can continue to other riddles after a failure; at Frontier Shrine, a failure makes the Sphinx leave and ends the sequence. Do not assume a universal save-and-reload recovery method: available save behavior depends on platform and circumstances.
Should you fight the Sphinx before solving every riddle?
No, not if you want the riddle chests. Windows Central warns that destroying or driving the Sphinx away early leaves those chests unopened. Complete the riddle sequence first, then prepare for the fight and the large final chest.

How do you beat the Sphinx?
Windows Central describes using the Unmaking Arrow as the Sphinx tries to fly away. In that guide’s account, the arrow stops her escape and yields the key to the large final chest. Save this approach for after the riddles if you want to preserve access to their rewards.
The same guide also describes a no-arrow approach that avoids damaging the Sphinx’s head. That is a reported tactic, not a guaranteed outcome; the available guide evidence does not establish it as a safer or more reliable alternative to the Unmaking Arrow.
