In Dragon’s Dogma 2, your main Pawn is your constant AI companion, while up to two support Pawns from other players can join your party through the network. Inclinations shape how Pawns tend to behave, commands steer them in context, and Pawn quests let you set a task and reward for Arisen who hire your main Pawn.
What Pawns do
Capcom describes Dragon’s Dogma 2 as a single-player action RPG with a network-connected Pawn system. You create one main Pawn who accompanies your Arisen throughout the adventure. The other two available party slots can be filled by support Pawns belonging to other players.
The main Pawn is your own companion; support Pawns are additional party members. This distinction matters for Pawn quests: you set a quest for your main Pawn, and another Arisen may encounter and hire that Pawn.
What the four Pawn inclinations do
Capcom’s official manual describes inclinations as tendencies that affect a Pawn’s behavior and speech. They are not strict scripts, and they do not change a Pawn’s loyalty to the Arisen.

| Inclination | Typical behavior | Practical party fit |
|---|---|---|
| Kindhearted | Attentive to the Arisen and allies, and quick to help. In combat, tends toward support, holding foes, and beneficial enchantments. | Useful when you want a companion to focus on assisting the party. |
| Calm | Strategic and survival-focused, favoring defense, evasion, and efficient tactics. Calm Pawns may also discard carried items they consider unnecessary. | A fit for a more cautious approach and attention to survival. |
| Simple | Curious and observant, with an emphasis on exploration, gathering, and examining surroundings. May share discoveries. | Useful when you want more attention paid to the environment and materials. |
| Straightforward | Candid and impulsive; tends to notice enemies and charge into fights, including against large monsters. | A more aggressive tendency for parties that want to press the attack. |
No inclination is universally best. Think of them as behavioral priorities: choose according to the support, survival, exploration, or aggression your party needs, then see how the Pawn behaves in play.
How to command Pawns
The manual lists five commands. Their effects depend on the situation, including whether the party is fighting or exploring, so treat them as directional instructions rather than guarantees of one exact action.

| Command | In combat | While exploring |
|---|---|---|
| Go! | Pawns act independently and spread out. | They can interact with nearby chests, mechanisms, and gathering spots in the indicated direction. If used after a Pawn makes a suggestion, it prompts that Pawn to follow through. |
| To me! | Pawns approach and fight by the Arisen’s side. | Pawns approach the Arisen. |
| Wait! | Pawns stop attacking and focus on indirect aid. | Pawns stay put. |
| Help! | Pawns prioritize support, healing, and recovery. | The manual does not specify a distinct exploration effect. |
| Explore! | The manual does not specify a distinct combat effect. | Holding Go! prompts proactive material gathering. This long-press command can be enabled or disabled in Game Settings. |
For instance, use Help! when you want Pawns to prioritize healing and recovery, or hold Go! to encourage gathering while exploring. Observe how the party responds in the circumstances at hand; the same command can play out differently depending on context.

A Pawn quest is a task you assign to your main Pawn for an Arisen who hires it beyond the rift. You choose a reward—either an item or a specified amount of gold—and can set a task such as retrieving an item.
