Spoilers ahead. The Sphinx’s quest, “A Game of Wits,” has ten riddles across two shrines: five at Mountain Shrine and five at Frontier Shrine. The answers and rewards are below, along with routes to both locations. The Rumination riddle is playthrough-specific: you must remember where you collected your first Seeker’s Token.
Before you start: protect your rewards
Check the target and conditions for each riddle before submitting an answer. A failed riddle forfeits its associated reward and cannot be retried, according to Push Square’s guide. The consequences for continuing differ by shrine: Windows Central reports that a failure at Mountain Shrine still allows the other riddles there, while a failure at Frontier Shrine makes the Sphinx leave. Treat the later shrine as the higher-stakes stop.
- Rumination has a seven in-game day deadline.
- Futility involves a fragile amphora that must not break.
- For Conviction, the Sphinx duplicates the item you submit, so choose deliberately.
- A Portcrystal near a shrine and Ferrystones can reduce return trips, if you have them.
Find the Sphinx at Mountain Shrine
Mountain Shrine is in the mountains near the Misty Marshes, northeast of Checkpoint Rest Town. One route runs north from Checkpoint Rest Town through the Ancient Battleground, then Worldsend Cavern and the mountain path; another approaches through the Misty Marshes. A campsite is outside the shrine. If you have a Portcrystal, placing it nearby can make repeat visits easier. These routes are described by PC Gamer, Push Square and Prima Games.
At the first shrine, you can choose among the first five riddles. The order of the five remaining riddles at Frontier Shrine may be randomized.

Riddle of Eyes
Enter the nearby dungeon and look above its entrance for a chest containing the Sealing Phial. Bring the Phial to the Sphinx. The reward is a Wakestone, and you keep the Phial. It can trap an NPC, but releasing that NPC breaks the item. See Prima Games and Push Square.
Riddle of Madness
Bring a character with high affinity to the Sphinx and identify that character as your answer. A romantic relationship is not required; Push Square says your main pawn can work. PC Gamer reports using Captain Brant, but its writer had not tested the pawn alternative. The reward is a Portcrystal. If you plan to use the pawn, the evidence for that option is less conclusive than the reported Brant solution.

Riddle of Wisdom
Bring a pawn whose moniker is SphinxFather or SphinxMother. The Riftstone of Fellowship near Harve Village is a reported place to look for one. The reward is 1,200 Rift Crystals. See Prima Games and Push Square.
Riddle of Conviction
Hand over any item from your inventory. There is no special correct item: the Sphinx gives you a duplicate of whatever you submit. Pick something you genuinely want a second copy of, rather than treating the submission as disposable. The duplication behavior is described by PowerPyx.

Riddle of Rumination
Go back to the exact place where you collected your first Seeker’s Token in this playthrough. A Finder’s Token appears there; take it back to the Sphinx within seven in-game days. The reward is three Ferrystones.
The target location depends on your own exploration, not a universal map marker. If you start New Game+, the relevant location resets to the first Seeker’s Token you collect in that playthrough. If you cannot remember where that was, retrace your early-game route. Melve is mentioned as a possible starting area, not a guaranteed answer. These details are covered by PowerPyx, Prima Games and Push Square.

Find the Sphinx at Frontier Shrine
After the first five riddles, the Sphinx moves to Frontier Shrine, west of Checkpoint Rest Town along the river route. Follow the river west beneath the town, as described by PowerPyx. Push Square says you can mount the Sphinx as it flies to its next location, but you risk falling if your stamina runs out.
Reaching the shrine completes Reunion automatically and opens a chest with 100,000 Gold. The remaining five riddles are presented in randomized order, so match the prompt to the solution below rather than expecting a fixed sequence.

Riddle of Contest
The Sphinx summons an opponent. Fight while wearing the Ring of Derision, which reduces your stats. Prima Games recommends staggering the opponent and throwing them off the nearby cliff. The reported reward is a Ring of Ambition, which increases experience gained. See Prima Games.
Riddle of Futility
The Sphinx gives you a fragile amphora to deliver to Ser Maurits in Bakbattahl, by the Sphinx mural. Do not let it break. Instead of carrying the amphora across the map, bring Maurits to the amphora. PowerPyx describes carrying him and using a Ferrystone to travel to a Portcrystal placed near the shrine; Prima Games also recommends bringing Maurits to it. The reward is Eternal Bond.
Riddle of Differentiation
The Sphinx shows you one of two similar-looking twins: Dante or Vergil. Inspect the image carefully, then compare it with their entries in the NPC Logbook. PowerPyx places both in Checkpoint Rest Town, on different sides of the gate: Dante is north of it and Vergil south. Bring the matching person to the Sphinx. The reward is Whimsical Daydream. Riddle of Recollection
Place one statue for every riddle you have answered correctly so far, then confirm your answer with the Sphinx. Count Reunion as completed if you found the Sphinx at Frontier Shrine; subtract any riddles you failed. Opened reward chests can help you track which riddles you completed. The reward is an Unmaking Arrow.
Final encounter and Eternal Wakestone
Prima Games describes a final encounter after the riddles: defeat the Sphinx to open the large chest containing the Eternal Wakestone. One reported strategy is to use the Unmaking Arrow when the Sphinx’s necklace glows purple. Treat that as a strategy rather than a guaranteed sequence; guides differ on details of the fight.
