In Dragon’s Dogma 2, your starting vocation determines a distinct playstyle and gives you a different set of level-one attributes. Fighter begins with the strongest listed physical defenses, Mage leads in magick, and Thief has the most stamina. These are starting values—not a complete guide to how attributes change as you level—and you can change vocation at a vocation guild.
What stats mean when choosing a starting vocation
The four starting vocations are Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Mage. Capcom describes each vocation as having a unique playstyle and distinct strengths and weaknesses. The attributes help compare their starting profiles, but they do not tell the whole story: weapon skills, equipment, and the role you want to play matter too.

- Health: your starting capacity to withstand damage.
- Stamina: an action resource. It matters defensively as well as offensively: Capcom’s manual says stamina does not recover while guarding, and a successful hit against the guard consumes some stamina.
- Strength and magick: compare the vocations’ physical and magical starting attributes.
- Defense and magick defense: compare their listed physical and magical defensive attributes.
- Knockdown power and resistance: compare the listed ability to stagger opponents and resist being staggered.
Level-one stats for the four starting vocations
The figures below are level-one values published by Samurai Gamers on April 2, 2024. They are third-party guide data, not figures attributed to Capcom.

How to read the starting differences
Fighter: the sturdier physical start
Fighter has the highest listed starting health, strength, defense, and knockdown resistance. Capcom describes it as a close-quarters sword-and-shield vocation. Its lower starting stamina than Archer and Thief is worth considering if you expect to spend a lot of time acting or guarding.

Archer: ranged role with more stamina than Fighter or Mage
Archer starts with 650 stamina, more than Fighter and Mage, alongside 45 strength and 30 each in magick and magick defense. Its numbers are a comparison point; they do not measure the value of its ranged role or the skills available to it.
Thief: the highest listed stamina
Thief begins with 700 stamina, the highest value in this table, and 50 strength—more than Archer’s 45. Its listed health and defense match Archer’s, while its knockdown resistance is lower.

Mage: the strongest magical starting profile
Mage has the highest listed magick and magick defense, both 60. Capcom describes it as a staff user who employs magicks. It also has the lowest listed health, strength, and defense of the four starting vocations.
Can you change vocation later?
Yes. Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 Official Web Manual says you can change vocation at a vocation guild. That means your first choice does not lock you into one vocation for the whole game.

What these figures do not establish
The table compares starting attributes only. It does not establish a level-by-level growth formula, attribute caps, or what happens to stat growth when you switch vocations. Do not treat the original Dragon’s Dogma’s growth information as a verified answer for Dragon’s Dogma 2; the games’ data should not be assumed interchangeable.
For a starting choice, use the numbers to identify a profile that suits you, then weigh Capcom’s vocation descriptions and the playstyle you prefer. They are not enough on their own to predict a character’s later attributes.
