For the older game and its included Bitterblack Isle expansion, choose Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. For the newer entry and its new Norgan expansion content, choose Dragon’s Dogma 2—or the 2026 bundle called Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. That last name is easy to mistake for the original game: Capcom says the bundle contains Dragon’s Dogma 2 and its new expansion, not the older title.
First, which “Dark Arisen” do you mean?
There are two similarly named products. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the older game. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, announced by Capcom on October 9, 2026, is a bundle containing Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the newer game’s Dark Arisen Expansion. The expansion is also sold separately and requires Dragon’s Dogma 2. Capcom’s launch notice and expansion page describe the contents and dependency.

What does the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen include?
Capcom describes the game as an action adventure in a large open world. Its official listing highlights three AI-controlled companions, called Pawns, who fight independently and can be shared or borrowed to help with skills and quests. It also lists nine vocations, upgradeable armor, combat that lets you climb creatures, and a large underground realm associated with the expansion.

The listed edition includes previously released DLC, pre-order bonuses, retailer exclusives, and expansion content. That makes it the direct choice if you specifically want the older game’s version of the Pawn and vocation systems, or want the older expansion content included. The recommendation follows from Capcom’s feature and edition descriptions, not a claim of personal playtesting.
What does the new Dragon’s Dogma 2 expansion add?
Capcom’s expansion page describes a snowy northern area called Norgan and a story involving Eir and the Fallen Dragon. It also lists 12 dungeon challenges, plus additional hairstyles and tattoos for character customization. The expansion requires Dragon’s Dogma 2; buying the expansion alone does not provide the base game.

Capcom’s October 9, 2026 launch notice names PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 for the bundle. Its announcement also lists the expansion separately for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Availability may differ by region and storefront, so confirm that the exact product is listed for your platform before purchase; do not assume the separate expansion has the same platform availability as the bundle. Is one the better game overall?
The available official product information supports a choice based on age of entry, features, expansion content, platform, and edition. It does not establish which game performs better across platforms, has the stronger story, takes longer to complete, or offers better overall value. For those questions, the answer can vary by platform and player; the listed facts are not a basis for a universal ranking.
