In Silent Hill: Townfall, use the CRTV to check for nearby threats, then put it away and scout with your eyes and ears. Move between cover, peek before crossing exposed ground, and break line of sight if an enemy spots you. Hiding works only when the enemy has not seen you enter; some encounters call for combat, so do not assume every enemy can be avoided.
Use the CRTV for information, not constant awareness
The handheld CRTV can reveal nearby enemy signals, making it useful before you commit to a route. Treat it as a brief scouting tool rather than an always-on map: while you are looking at its display, you are paying less attention to the environment around Simon. Check the signal, note where the threat is, then return your focus to what you can see and hear. The device also has a narrative role, but its gameplay value is situational. PlayStation.Blog introduced the CRTV as part of the first-person gameplay, and a later developer interview discusses how its video and audio signals integrate with stealth.

Scout from cover before crossing open space
Because the game is played from a first-person perspective, Simon’s view does not give you a broad sense of everything nearby. Listen as well as watch, and use obstacles to reduce exposure while you work out where an enemy is. PlayStation’s guide identifies fences, signs, and parked cars as examples of objects you can crouch behind.
Peek before you move
Hold R1 and use the right stick to lean around a corner or look over cover. This lets you check a route before stepping into it. A quick peek can tell you whether to wait, change direction, or cross; it is safer than committing to a straight path based on incomplete information.

- Day One Edition Bonus: CRTV Style: Rusted, CRTV Style: Beach Edition
- Returning to an island town to ‘put things right’, Simon Ordell descends into a world of tense evasion, explosive confrontations, and mind-bending puzzles that slowly surface the truth of St. Amelia
- Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest
- Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface
- Experienced entirely in first person, Simon must explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including the CRTV, a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged
These first-person tactics, including listening, crouching, and peeking, are described in PlayStation’s guide to how the perspective changes play.
Break line of sight when pursuit starts
If an enemy sees you, do not keep running straight through an exposed area. Turn around a corner or duck behind an object to interrupt its view of you; an enemy may lose sight of you when you break line of sight. Use the environment to change the route and create concealment rather than relying on speed alone. The exact outcome can depend on the encounter, so treat a sight break as a chance to escape or reposition, not a guarantee that pursuit has ended.

- Day One Edition Bonus: CRTV Style: Rusted, CRTV Style: Beach Edition
- When Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to "put things in order", he meets a city lying quietly in dense fog, seemingly abandoned, yet anything but dormant
- After venturing further to understand his connection to this place and its inhabitants, he gradually discovers fragments of the past rising to the surface
- Simon must explore, evade and survive from a first-person perspective. It uses a limited arsenal of weapons and tools, including the CRTV: a portable TV to receive unstable signals
- The dodging is tension, the battles are hectic and the story-based puzzles reveal a truth that does not want to remain hidden
Hide only if you can enter unseen
Cabinets, closets, and lockers can conceal Simon, and you can watch through a crack or use the CRTV while hiding. But concealment is not a reset button: if an enemy sees you go in, it can chase you down and pull you out. First break its line of sight, then reach a hiding place without being observed. If you cannot do that, keep moving toward cover or another route instead of ducking into a hiding spot in full view.
Know when combat is the safer choice
Townfall expects both stealth and combat. PlayStation describes them as strategic parts of play, and its guidance covers blocking and counterattacking when a fight is necessary. Avoiding a confrontation can reduce immediate risk, but the available guidance does not establish that every enemy or encounter can be bypassed. If stealth has failed or the situation leaves no safe route, use the combat mechanics rather than assuming escape is always possible. The official PlayStation game page also says that player actions shape multiple outcomes.
Adjust the challenge if enemy pressure is stopping progress
TechRadar’s September 21, 2026 review reports that Story mode reduces enemy threat, Normal is the intended mode, and Nightmare increases enemy power and makes the flashlight detectable. These are the reviewer’s descriptions of the game at review time, not a guarantee of how every current build behaves. Check the in-game difficulty settings and descriptions, particularly after updates. TechRadar’s review describes enemies as varying in speed and danger and notes environmental cut-throughs and hiding places, but those observations come from one reviewer’s playthrough; a route that worked there may not work in every encounter or difficulty.

Official guidance explains the general tools for evasion and combat, but it does not provide a complete named enemy roster, encounter-by-encounter escape route, or verified weaknesses for particular enemies. That means the most dependable approach is to apply the mechanics to the situation: check signals, listen, peek from cover, and respond to what the enemy actually does. Avoid relying on supposed enemy-specific weaknesses unless they are confirmed for the encounter you are playing.

There is also no established enemy-kill threshold for a particular ending, and the cited sources do not prove that a no-kill run is required. PlayStation says actions shape the ending; in a developer interview, Jon McKellan says outcomes reflect actions across the playthrough rather than one binary decision at the end. Motoi Okamoto says all three main endings are reachable on a first playthrough, while a secret ending becomes available after completing the game once. The developer interview discusses those ending conditions without establishing a kill-count rule.
