Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen has a favorable reception in the critic and player snapshots available, but those numbers describe different audiences and should not be treated as one score. The game’s enduring appeal rests on action-RPG combat, flexible classes, exploration, and AI-controlled companions called Pawns. Your best edition depends on platform: Capcom lists PC support for up to 4K and 60 fps, while its listed console versions target 30 fps.
What do the reviews say?
The available ratings are positive overall, but the Metacritic critic aggregate and Steam user-review summary are separate measures from separate audiences.
- Critics: Metacritic’s PC page displayed an 81/100 Metascore from 63 critic reviews when accessed in 2026: 54 positive (87%), 8 mixed (13%), and none negative. This is the PC page’s displayed aggregate, not a timeless score for every version. Metacritic’s PC critic reviews.
- Steam players: Steam displayed “Very Positive,” with 88% positive from 22,271 English-language reviews when accessed in 2026. Steam review totals and percentages change over time. Steam’s review summary.
These snapshots suggest broad approval, not that critics and players evaluated the game identically. Neither rating explains whether its combat, pacing, or companion systems will suit you.
What is the game like to play?
Combat and class choice
Combat and class flexibility are central to the game’s appeal. Capcom’s PlayStation product description says players can choose between nine classes and adventure with three AI companions, called Pawns. That is publisher copy describing the offering, not an independent reviewer’s judgment. Capcom’s PlayStation product page.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Class choice is a practical reason to consider whether you enjoy adapting your approach to fights rather than committing to a single fixed role. The available review evidence does not establish that every class is equally suited to every player, so choose according to the kind of combat you want rather than assuming one option is objectively best.
Exploration and Pawns
The official product description frames the adventure around exploring Gransys and travelling with AI-controlled Pawns. Their role makes party composition part of the experience: you are not simply exploring alone, and your companions are not human-controlled co-op partners. If you want a party-based action RPG with AI allies, that system is a meaningful draw; if you specifically want multiplayer with friends, the cited descriptions do not establish that this is what the game offers.

Story and difficulty

Those are useful factors to weigh against the combat and party systems, not areas where the aggregate scores alone can tell you what you will enjoy.

Is it still worth playing?
It is a reasonable choice if you want an action RPG built around combat, class selection, exploration, and an AI-companion party. The PC critic snapshot and Steam user snapshot are favorable, though they are platform-specific and time-sensitive; they cannot predict whether you will like the story or the game’s particular difficulty and pacing. Choose your edition based on Capcom’s stated platform differences, and check the exact store listing for regional content and availability.
Where can you check older versions?
