Windows may show “The program can’t start because ds_mng.dll is missing,” “ds_mng.dll was not found,” or “ds_mng.dll could not be located.” The ds_mng.dll error usually means that DVB Dream cannot load one of its DirectShow components.

ds_mng.dll is associated with DVB Dream, a Windows application for watching and recording digital TV through USB or PCI tuner hardware. It is not a Windows system DLL.

- Uninstall the affected DVB Dream installation.
- Download the complete installer from
dvbdream.org. - Install it into a new or clean folder.
- Start DVB Dream and test the tuner again.
The DLL should normally sit in the DVB Dream installation folder beside dvbdream.exe. Do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or another Windows directory.

What is ds_mng.dll?
DVB Dream’s version 1.5 changelog describes new DirectShow routines delivered as ds_mng.dll. DirectShow is part of the media path that connects a tuner, transport stream, codecs, and video or audio output.
That makes this an application repair problem first, not a Windows DLL download problem. The file may be absent because an installation or update was interrupted, deleted by security software, damaged, or mixed with files from another DVB Dream release.
Some third-party listings report a 32-bit file with a particular version and size, but those values are not confirmed specifications from DVB Dream. Do not use those listings to select a replacement file.

Fix 1: Reinstall DVB Dream completely
This is the most likely solution when DVB Dream alone reports the error.
Before removing the program
Back up anything you need from the existing DVB Dream folder:
- Channel lists
- User settings
- Plugins
- Recordings
- Custom profiles
- Tuner configuration
If the program still opens, use its own export or backup options where available. Otherwise, copy the relevant data to another folder before uninstalling.
Remove and reinstall it
- Press
Windowsand type Installed apps. - Open Installed apps.
- Search for DVB Dream.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Download DVB Dream from the official site,
dvbdream.org. - Install the complete package rather than copying individual DLL files.
- If possible, install it into a new folder instead of reusing a damaged folder.
- Launch DVB Dream and select the tuner again.
A successful repair usually means the application starts without the missing-file message. If the program opens but shows no video, that is a different stage of the problem. Continue with the DirectShow, tuner, and log checks below.

Do not mix ds_mng.dll from one release with dvbdream.exe from another. An old or modified package may contain an incompatible copy even when the filename is present.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an application DLL. Do not immediately disable antivirus protection or restore an unknown file.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving DVB Dream or
ds_mng.dll. - Open the detection details.
- Confirm that the file came from the official DVB Dream installer and the expected installation folder.
- Scan the complete installer before restoring anything.
- If the file is verified and the detection is a false positive, use Actions and choose Restore or Allow on device, if offered.
- Reinstall DVB Dream if the quarantine entry does not provide a safe restore option.

If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, stop reinstalling the same package. Download a fresh installer from the official DVB Dream site, scan it, and submit a false-positive report to the security vendor if appropriate.

Open the folder containing dvbdream.exe. The expected arrangement is similar to this:
DVB Dream
dvbdream.exe
ds_mng.dll
The exact installation path can vary. To find it:
- Right-click the DVB Dream shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Confirm that
dvbdream.exeandds_mng.dllare in the same application folder.
If the file is elsewhere, do not simply copy it into the DVB Dream folder unless it came from the same verified installer. Reinstall the complete package instead.
Windows normally searches an unpackaged application’s own directory during DLL loading. Microsoft explains this behavior in its DLL search order documentation. Putting an application DLL in System32 or SysWOW64 can create version conflicts and does not repair the original installation.

Fix 4: Check whether the error is really a dependency failure
If ds_mng.dll exists beside dvbdream.exe but DVB Dream still refuses to start, the loader may be reporting a problem with a dependency of that DLL.

- A damaged DLL
- A wrong-bitness DLL
- A missing runtime dependency
- A mismatched DVB Dream build
- A blocked or incomplete installation
Do not assume that Visual C++ Redistributable installs ds_mng.dll. It does not replace an application-owned DLL. Install a Visual C++ package only when DVB Dream or the error specifically identifies a missing Visual C++ runtime.
For an older 32-bit DVB Dream build, the required runtime may also need to be the x86 architecture. A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit application, but its application dependencies must be compatible with that 32-bit process. Microsoft lists the supported packages and architecture guidance on its Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.
After installing the explicitly named runtime, restart Windows and test DVB Dream. If the error remains, reinstall DVB Dream rather than collecting DLLs from different packages.

If DVB Dream starts but video or audio fails, ds_mng.dll may not be the remaining problem. The fault could be in a tuner driver, BDA configuration, codec, or another DVB Dream component.

Open the newest log in Notepad and look at the final entries recorded immediately after the failure. Repeated DirectShow, BDA, codec, or tuner references point to the next repair area.
Also test whether the problem affects only one channel or every channel. A program that launches but cannot render one stream may have a codec or broadcast configuration problem rather than a missing ds_mng.dll.
Fix 6: Update or reinstall the tuner driver
DVB Dream depends on the tuner hardware and its Windows driver. Update the driver from the tuner manufacturer before changing unrelated Windows components.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Also check Universal Serial Bus controllers and Other devices.
- Right-click the tuner or device with a warning icon.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers if you already have a compatible driver package.
- If the manufacturer supplied an installer, choose Browse my computer for drivers and point to that package.
- Restart Windows.
- Open DVB Dream and rescan or reselect the tuner.
If the device is still unstable, right-click it in Device Manager, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the current driver supplied by the hardware vendor. Do not remove a working driver without having a replacement package available.
Manually hunting through hardware pages and guessing which of several driver packages matches the tuner can take longer than the application repair itself. DISM and System File Checker repair Windows component-store and protected-system-file problems. They normally do not recreate an application-owned ds_mng.dll, so use them after reinstalling DVB Dream or when several programs show similar loading failures.

Run the commands separately in the elevated Command Prompt. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test. If it reports that it could not repair everything, repeat the repair only as directed by Microsoft and review the resulting message.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed makes troubleshooting harder. Do not register or download the DLL separately
Do not run:
regsvr32 ds_mng.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that ds_mng.dll is a self-registering component. Microsoft explains the command’s purpose in its regsvr32 documentation.
Also avoid random DLL download websites. A downloaded file may contain malware, target a different DVB Dream build, use the wrong architecture, or still fail because another dependency is missing. The safe source is the complete DVB Dream installer from dvbdream.org.
When System Restore is appropriate
Use System Restore only if DVB Dream worked until a recent system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Open Start and search for Recovery.
- Select Recovery.
- Choose Open System Restore.
- Select a restore point created before the failure.
- Review the affected applications and updates.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal files, but it can remove applications or updates installed after the selected restore point. Reinstalling DVB Dream is usually the more direct repair.

Is ds_mng.dll part of Windows?
No. Available evidence associates it with DVB Dream, not with the Windows operating system. Do not place it in System32 or SysWOW64.
Which program needs ds_mng.dll?
DVB Dream uses it for DirectShow-related functions. Older, modified, or incomplete DVB Dream distributions may contain different supporting files.
