“The program can’t start because dtlui.dll is missing from your computer.” You may also see “The specified module could not be found,” “Failed to load DTLUI.dll,” or “dtlui.dll was not found.”
The 60-second answer
dtlui.dll is not a standard Windows DLL. Public file records associate it most strongly with the DriveTheLife and Driver Talent family of driver-management utilities, along with some bundled wireless or network-driver tools. It is generally an application file stored in that program’s installation folder, not in System32.

The safest fix is to identify the program named in the error, uninstall or repair that program, then reinstall the exact package from its official vendor or hardware manufacturer. Do not download a random copy of dtlui.dll and place it in System32 or SysWOW64. A copied file can have the wrong architecture, belong to another release, or introduce a security problem without repairing the missing dependency that caused the error.

What usually caused the error
The problem commonly starts after one of these changes:
#1 Best Overall
- Less chaos, more calm. The refreshed design of Windows 11 enables you to do what you want effortlessly.
- Biometric logins. Encrypted authentication. And, of course, advanced antivirus defenses. Everything you need, plus more, to protect you against the latest cyberthreats.
- Make the most of your screen space with snap layouts, desktops, and seamless redocking.
- Widgets makes staying up-to-date with the content you love and the news you care about, simple.
- Stay in touch with friends and family with Microsoft Teams, which can be seamlessly integrated into your taskbar. (1)
- Driver Talent or DriveTheLife was partially uninstalled.
- A driver utility failed during an update.
- A network adapter or wireless-driver package was reinstalled.
- Antivirus software quarantined the DLL.
- Disk cleanup or manual deletion removed part of the application.
- A repacked or portable driver utility installed incomplete files.
- The DLL is present, but another dependency cannot be loaded.
The exact wording matters. “Missing” or “not found” usually indicates that Windows cannot locate the file. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that dtlui.dll is present but one of its dependent DLLs is missing. “Not designed to run on Windows” or an entry-point error usually points to a damaged, incompatible, or mismatched build.
Before changing anything, record the executable that raises the message. Look for wording such as DriverTalent.exe, DriveTheLife.exe, a wireless utility executable, or another named program. Then note its folder. A DLL located beside that executable is much more likely to be the correct application component than a file found in a temporary folder or an unexpected system directory.
Step 1: Check whether the parent application is still wanted
Open Settings with Windows + I, then select:
- Apps
- Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10
- Search for Driver Talent, DriveTheLife, or the driver utility named in the error
- Select the three-dot menu, then choose Advanced options if available
- Select Repair
Start the application after the repair completes. If it still reports the DLL error, return to the same screen and choose Reset only if you are comfortable losing that program’s settings.
If no repair option exists:
- Select the program in Installed apps
- Choose Uninstall
- Restart Windows
- Download the current installer from the software vendor’s official site, or obtain the driver utility from the computer, adapter, or chipset manufacturer
- Install it normally, preferably by right-clicking the installer and choosing Run as administrator
- Restart again and test the application
Driver Talent publishes a current Windows installer for its product family. Use the vendor’s official download page rather than a third-party DLL archive, and select the package intended for your Windows release.
If the program is unwanted, obsolete, or came from a repacked download, do not reinstall it merely to make the startup message disappear. Uninstall it, run a full scan in Windows Security, and obtain the required hardware driver directly from the PC or adapter manufacturer.
Step 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus quarantine is a common reason for a previously working application to suddenly lose dtlui.dll.
To inspect it:
- Open Start
- Search for Windows Security
- Select Virus & threat protection
- Select Protection history
- Open the detection associated with
dtlui.dll - Expand its details and check the original file path, detection name, and affected program
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are true:

- The file was in that application’s normal installation directory.
- The installer came from the vendor or hardware manufacturer.
- The file’s digital signature and publisher are credible.
- A current security scan does not identify the installation as unwanted.
If Windows Security identifies the file as potentially unwanted software, or the file came from a repacked or unofficial installer, leave it quarantined. Remove the parent program and scan the computer instead. Microsoft notes that restoring a detected threat can cause it to be detected again; allowing it should be reserved for a confirmed false positive.
After restoring a trusted file, repair or reinstall the parent application. A quarantine event may indicate that other files from the same installation are also missing or damaged.

Step 3: Verify the file path, signature, and architecture
If dtlui.dll still exists, do not replace it immediately. First establish whether it belongs to the program that is failing.
In File Explorer, right-click the application shortcut, select Properties, and use Open file location if that option is available. Search that folder for dtlui.dll. Also check the file’s:
- Right-click Properties
- Details tab for product information
- Digital Signatures tab, if present
- General tab for the full location
Public records associate DTLUI.dll with the product metadata DTLUI 动态链接库 and with Shenzhen DriveTheLife Software Technology Co., Ltd. Some records also associate it with related Shenzhen Driver Life entities. That attribution is useful for identifying the parent software, but it is not a complete official specification for every copy.
The file must be beside the application that loads it, or in another folder specified by that application. Treat these locations as suspicious until explained:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A random
Tempfolder - A download archive
- A startup folder
- A directory belonging to software you do not recognize
A valid signature does not prove that the program is desirable. Consider the signature, file path, installer source, and security result together.
Architecture also matters. A 32-bit application requires the 32-bit build of its dependency, even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application requires a 64-bit build. Do not select a file based only on whether Windows itself is 64-bit. Reinstalling the parent application is the reliable way to obtain its matching build because public copies of this filename vary in version, size, hash, and reported architecture.

If the error began after a network or wireless-driver change, repair the hardware package as well as the utility.
First, open Device Manager:
- Press
Windows + X - Select Device Manager
- Expand Network adapters
- Right-click the affected adapter
- Select Properties, then open the Driver tab
- Note the provider and driver date
- If the failure began immediately after an update, select Roll Back Driver when available
- Otherwise select Uninstall Device, choose to remove the driver only if you have a replacement from the manufacturer, and restart
- Install the driver package downloaded from the PC, motherboard, chipset, or adapter manufacturer
Do not assume that dtlui.dll itself is the hardware driver. It may be the user interface for a driver-management utility or a bundled wireless tool. The application installer must restore it.
If the program launches but reports a different missing file afterward, record that filename. A message involving vcruntime140.dll, msvcp, or another Microsoft runtime is a separate problem. Install the supported Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package from Microsoft and choose the architecture required by the application. Do not install Visual C++ simply because dtlui.dll is missing; there is no evidence that dtlui.dll is a Microsoft runtime.

Manually adding a Windows optional feature is not a normal fix for this file. Settings > System > Optional features on Windows 11, or Apps > Optional features on Windows 10, will not provide a third-party application DLL. Enable a Windows feature only when the affected program’s own documentation explicitly requires it.
Recommended Free Tools
When a driver utility has many possible hardware packages, hunting through versions manually can be slow and can leave the wrong driver installed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show which drivers are outdated; its free scan identifies the issue, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the application or hardware driver from its official manufacturer remains the definitive fix when that package owns dtlui.dll.
Step 5: Repair Windows components when other programs are failing
dtlui.dll is not established as a protected Windows component, so System File Checker will not normally restore it. Use Windows repair commands when several Windows applications are failing, updates are damaged, or system corruption is otherwise plausible.
Install pending Windows updates first:
- Open Settings
- Select Windows Update
- Choose Check for updates
- Install available updates
- Restart Windows
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start
- Type
Command Prompt - Right-click it
- Choose Run as administrator
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt
Run these commands in this order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for DISM to finish, then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows and test the affected program. If SFC reports that it repaired files, retry the application. If it reports that it could not repair some files, run the DISM command again, restart, and repeat SFC once. These commands repair protected Windows components, not an arbitrary third-party copy of dtlui.dll.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without identifying which application owns the DLL only delays the real repair. Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show what Windows repair issues it finds; its free scan identifies problems, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the parent application remains the correct fix for a missing third-party DLL.
Step 6: Use System Restore after a recent installation change
If the error appeared immediately after installing a driver utility, updating an adapter, or removing software, System Restore may reverse the change.
- Press
Windows + R - Type
rstrui.exe - Press Enter
- Choose Next
- Select a restore point dated before the problem began
- Select Scan for affected programs if available
- Confirm the restore point
- Select Finish
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, and installed programs, but it does not remove personal documents. After Windows restarts, reinstall the required application or driver from its official source if necessary.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 dtlui.dll
A normal application DLL is loaded by its parent program and does not need COM self-registration. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that specifically provide a DllRegisterServer entry point. If dtlui.dll does not provide it, Windows may report that the entry point was not found. Registration does not restore a deleted file, fix a missing dependency, or correct a 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch.
If the error appears at every boot
If no application is open when the message appears:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove the unwanted driver utility.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl + Shift + Esc. - Select Startup apps and disable an entry clearly belonging to the removed utility.
- Search Start for Task Scheduler and open it.
- Review Task Scheduler Library for tasks that launch the removed program.
- Disable or delete only a task you have positively identified.
- Restart Windows.
Do not disable random Windows tasks. If the entry is unclear, check its Actions tab for the executable path and compare it with the program you removed.
What not to do
- Do not download
dtlui.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Do not copy an unverified DLL into
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not replace a quarantined file without checking its path and detection.
- Do not assume every copy belongs to Driver Talent.
- Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET without a separate error or installer requirement.
- Do not use
regsvr32as a general DLL repair command. - Do not keep multiple random versions in the application folder.
Windows searches application and system directories in a defined order. An unverified DLL placed in a searched directory can create version conflicts or DLL-preloading risk. The safe sources are the original application vendor, the computer manufacturer, the adapter or chipset manufacturer, and Microsoft for Microsoft runtimes or Windows repair tools.

If it still will not start
Identify the calling executable and its folder again, then check:
- Whether the DLL is missing or merely unable to load
- The application’s installer or repair log
- The file’s signature and location
- Whether the program is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether another dependency is missing
- Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for a matching error
A dependency-analysis tool can reveal which library failed after dtlui.dll was found. If the application is a game that bundled the file, use the launcher’s built-in Verify or Repair files function instead of downloading a replacement. No particular game association is established for this filename.

Is dtlui.dll a Windows system file?
No. Available records point to a third-party driver-management or bundled driver utility. It should not normally be installed in System32.
Can I download a replacement DLL?
Avoid random DLL downloads. Different copies vary in build, architecture, hash, and compatibility. Reinstall the application that owns the file.
Is dtlui.dll malware?
Not automatically. Public records include validly signed samples as well as samples detected as potentially unwanted software. Judge the particular file by its location, signature, installer source, and antivirus result.
Should I install Visual C++?
Only if the application separately reports a missing Microsoft runtime such as vcruntime140.dll or msvcp. Visual C++ is not the primary repair for dtlui.dll.
Will SFC restore the file?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows components. It may help with broader system corruption, but the application’s installer must normally restore dtlui.dll.
What if I do not use the program anymore?
Uninstall the parent utility, remove its startup entry or scheduled task if necessary, and run a full Windows Security scan. Do not restore the DLL just to silence an obsolete startup error.
