Identify what is failing first
“Fatal Error! The UE4-EMLauncher Game has crashed and will close” refers to the launcher, not necessarily the game client. Other symptoms have different guidance: the launcher may open but Start does nothing; the game client may crash on startup; Windows may show a runtime prompt; or a patch may fail to download.
The official PC installation FAQ distinguishes these cases. Its directions were written for the second closed beta, so treat them as historical official guidance rather than a guarantee that every control or path is unchanged in the current build.
Try the fix that matches your symptom
Launcher opens, but installation or decompression fails
The official FAQ recommends closing relevant protection software temporarily, then using the repair control beside Start and choosing Repair Now so the launcher can fetch the game files again. Restore protection software after the repair. Only temporarily disable protection if needed, and avoid leaving it off while using the PC.

The game client crashes when starting
The FAQ’s beta-era recommendation is to uninstall and reinstall Duet Night Abyss. Its documented Windows path is Control Panel → Uninstall a program → Duet Night Abyss → Uninstall, then reinstall the game. Current Windows labels and launcher behavior may differ; follow the equivalent uninstall option available on your system.
Start does nothing
Fully exit the launcher, then right-click the game’s icon and choose Run as administrator. This is the official FAQ’s suggested step for a game that will not open after pressing Start. Use it only for the installed game icon, not an unfamiliar executable.

Error 0x0000007b
The FAQ associates this specific launcher error with corrupted .NET Framework or DirectX components and points to the bundled Unreal Engine prerequisite installer at Duet Night AbyssEngineExtrasRedisten-usUE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe. The path is relative to the game’s installation folder; it will not exist if the game is not installed there or the files are incomplete. Run the installer from your own installation if present. This advice is specific to 0x0000007b, not a diagnosis for every launcher fatal error.
A Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime or DirectX Runtime prompt appears
Use the relevant Microsoft runtime guidance rather than downloading installers from unofficial mirrors. For DirectX, the official FAQ points to Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime instructions. The FAQ treats runtime prompts separately from 0x0000007b.

A patch will not download
Check whether VPN, proxy, or hosts-file settings are affecting the connection. The FAQ recommends disabling a VPN or third-party accelerator and retrying. Change one setting at a time and restore it if it does not help.
Unofficial workarounds for the launcher fatal error
Try the game executable only if the game is installed
In an October 2025 Steam Community discussion, some players reported launching the game directly from Duet Night AbyssDNA GameEM.exe to bypass a launcher crash. Other players said the folder was missing or the error remained. This is an anecdotal workaround, not an official repair; it cannot help if you have not downloaded the game files.

Treat network changes as a diagnostic, not a diagnosis
Some participants in that same discussion reported success using a VPN or opening the launcher while disconnected from the internet, while others continued to have problems. These reports are inconsistent and do not establish that the fatal error is caused by a network issue. If you try a network change, make it reversible and restore your usual settings if it fails.

Include the exact error text, launcher and game version, Windows version, and the troubleshooting steps you already tried. That helps support distinguish a launcher crash from an installation, runtime, or game-client failure.
