The Third Trial of Aql takes place in the Cave of the Lost Pilgrim in Western Vermillius Gap. At the altar, do not look for a spice challenge: the altar is destroyed, and interacting with the recording beside it advances the quest toward the Fourth Trial.
Where to find the Third Trial of Aql
Look for the Cave of the Lost Pilgrim in Western Vermillius Gap. The cave is in a large rock formation southwest of the Wreck of the Pallas, near the stone formation described in your quest clue. The route can involve dangerous sand areas, so use the in-game Journey or Journal entry as your navigation reference rather than relying on a fixed approach.

After completing the Second Trial, open the entry for The Third Trial of Aql. Its riddle reads: “Para-west of the great hammer of Mirzabah… a table of stone for God’s feast… turn para-north from its bounty and seek the cave of the purple eye”. Guides place the cave near the Wreck of the Pallas and describe approaching the rock formation from the southeast, but your map and traversal conditions may affect the practical route. Method’s walkthrough gives that landmark context; Game8’s walkthrough also locates the trial in the large rock formation.
What to do inside the cave
- Enter the Cave of the Lost Pilgrim and continue through the cave toward the altar chamber.
- Expect enemies along the way and deal with them as needed to reach the chamber.
- At the altar, interact with the recording device or transmitter beside the destroyed shrine.
- Wait for the quest to update; the interaction moves the story toward the Fourth Trial.
Why the altar has no spice trial
The broken altar is intentional. The progression step is to interact with its recording, not to find a missing spice test or activate a working altar. Walkthrough accounts agree on this sequence, including Game8 and Method.

Reward and quest progression
The stable outcome reported for this step is quest progression toward the Fourth Trial. Reward listings conflict: Game8 does not list an item reward, while the Fandom quest page lists 100 XP. Because those accounts do not agree, check the current quest display in your game rather than treating the XP figure as definitive.
