Dune: Awakening’s closed-beta impressions point to a promising opening stretch, but also to a build hampered by bugs and performance issues. The roughly 20 hours described in the original preview are a snapshot of one beta experience—not a review of the released game or a reliable account of how it performs today.
What the closed-beta impressions say
The available summary of the preview describes the first 20 hours as impressive overall while flagging substantial bugs and performance problems. That is the extent of the confirmed, article-specific detail: the original page’s full text is not available here, so particular glitches, systems, or moments from the playthrough cannot be responsibly attributed to its author.
The “first 20 hours” refers to the writer’s reported time with the game, not a measured benchmark or a claim that every player will see the same content in that time. Treat “loads of bugs” as the preview’s characterization of its beta build, rather than evidence about the current version.
What the beta covered—and what that does not establish
Funcom described a large-scale beta weekend as covering the opening 20–25 hours and most of Act 1. That provides useful context for the scale of an early-game test, but it does not establish that the preview writer played that same test or build, or had the same access. The beta’s scope also should not be mistaken for the full game’s story length.

How the game is described today
In a June 4, 2026 Xbox Wire article, Funcom’s Chief Marketing Officer Erling Ellingsen described Dune: Awakening as an open-world survival game with narrative and RPG elements. Xbox Wire lists exploration, combat, crafting, building, and progression through five Schools of the Imperium among its features. It also describes ground and flying vehicles and options for single-player, private-server, and large-scale multiplayer play. These are later descriptions of the game; they do not verify what was playable or how well it worked in the earlier closed beta. Xbox Wire’s June 4, 2026 announcement
Platform status and PC requirements
Platform plans have moved on since the beta. Xbox Wire said PC availability began in June 2025 and announced an Xbox release for September 22, 2026. Those are statements from a dated announcement, not a guarantee that plans remain unchanged; check the current store listing for availability in your region.

How to read this preview now
- For the early experience: the report supports a cautiously positive impression of the opening, alongside serious beta-build problems.
- For current performance: the beta account is not a current test. It does not establish whether those bugs remain, were fixed, or affect particular PCs.
- For the full game: the roughly 20-hour playtime and Funcom’s separate 20–25-hour beta scope do not establish the total campaign length or the quality of later content.
