To host Dungeons, Dragons and Space Shuttles 2 (DDSS2), lock every player to DDSS2-BETA 3.2, Minecraft 1.16.5, and the pack’s Forge profile, then deploy the matching server-pack files in a separate directory. The current release is a large beta pack, so use a clean installation, test the world before inviting players, monitor memory and tick time, and keep a backup before every update.

What DDSS2 is running right now
CurseForge lists Dungeons, Dragons and Space Shuttles 2 by Freebi85 (Freebi Peers) as a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5. The latest listed file is DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip, dated August 21, 2026. The Files page independently identifies the same Minecraft version and release. Treat that combination as a single server target: do not install a newer Forge build, an older client pack, or a different DDSS2 beta just because its name looks similar.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

DDSS2 is not a lightly modified vanilla server. Its official description calls it an “an absolutely massive, mind-blowing Hardcore Adventure and Tech/Magic Quest pack.” The published scale is:
- Over 330 mods — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
- Over 1,204 quests — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
- Seven progression ages, tiers 0–6 — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
- More than 25 dimensions — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
- More than 50 custom machines — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
- More than 100 custom items — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
- More than 150,000 custom recipes — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
Those figures explain why a small vanilla-server setup can produce long startup times, garbage-collection pauses, or delayed world ticks. DDSS2 is categorized as Adventure and RPG, Hardcore, Magic, Quests, and Tech, and it uses Forge rather than Fabric or a vanilla-only runtime.

Requirements to settle before installation
Freeze the exact release
Create a short record containing DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip, Minecraft 1.16.5, the Forge version supplied or required by that release, and the date you installed it. Give that record to every player and administrator. Beta projects can change configuration files, scripts, or mod versions between releases; a server and client that are both “DDSS2” are not necessarily compatible if their release ZIPs differ.
Choose a dedicated server directory
Use a new directory that is not your personal client instance and not a directory used by another modpack. A dedicated path makes it easier to identify the correct mods, config, defaultconfigs, scripts, world data, and logs. Avoid running the server from a desktop downloads folder where an accidental cleanup can remove the world.

Decide who receives operator permissions, whether the server is public or whitelisted, which difficulty and game rules your community wants, and where backups will be stored. You will set these in the normal Minecraft server configuration after the first launch. The DDSS2 sources do not prescribe community-specific values, so use rules that fit your group rather than copying a value from an unrelated server.
Where to get the DDSS2 server pack
A server pack is the clean deployment bundle intended for a host, rather than a client launcher profile. CurseForge’s server-pack guidance describes it as the artifact a host can unpack and run. Start from the DDSS2 project’s Files tab and look for the server-pack entry that corresponds to DDSS2-BETA 3.2.
The public DDSS2 project page does not expose a confirmed server-pack filename in the available documentation. Do not guess a name, rename a client ZIP and assume it is a server bundle, or combine files from separate beta releases. If the Files tab does not make the artifact clear, use the author’s Discord linked from the project page and ask for the server-pack file that matches DDSS2-BETA 3.2.

After downloading, compare the file’s release label with your version record before extracting it. Keep the original ZIP unchanged as an archive. If a host panel asks you to upload a server pack, upload that verified artifact rather than a client export.
Install the Forge server runtime
DDSS2 requires a Forge server runtime for Minecraft 1.16.5. Use the Forge build expected by the DDSS2-BETA 3.2 server pack or by its included instructions. Installing an arbitrary Forge build can lead to missing mods, dependency errors, or a server that starts but rejects every client.
- Prepare the directory. Create the empty DDSS2 server directory and place the matching server-pack archive there. Extract it without nesting the real files inside an extra folder, so the launch script and server files are easy to find.
- Install Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5. Run the Forge installer’s server-install option and point it at the dedicated DDSS2 directory. If the server pack already includes a Forge installer or runtime files, follow that package’s instructions instead of installing a second runtime over it.
- Preserve the pack’s files. Keep the supplied
mods, config, defaultconfigs, scripts, and libraries together. Do not copy only the mods folder into a generic Forge server; many modpacks depend on configuration and library files as well. - Use the supplied launch method. If the server pack includes a launch script, run that script from the server directory. The exact DDSS2 script filename is not confirmed by the public project information, so do not substitute a made-up command. If no script is supplied, use the Forge server launch command generated by the installer and follow the Java requirements stated by that runtime.
- Record the first error. If the process stops, save the console output and the newest file in
logs. The first dependency or Java error is usually more useful than the final cascade of “server stopped” messages.
Complete the first launch
Accept the EULA
The first run normally creates eula.txt and stops. Open that file, read the linked Minecraft EULA, and change the acceptance line only if the server owner agrees to those terms. Start the server again after saving the file. If no world or log files are generated, you are probably running the command from the wrong directory or the Forge runtime failed before initialization.
Set the basic server properties
After a successful initial run, stop the server cleanly and edit server.properties. Set the values your community has agreed on:
- Server name or MOTD: identify the DDSS2 community and the beta release.
- Difficulty: choose the level appropriate for the pack’s hardcore progression and your group.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private group and add players deliberately.
- View distance and simulation distance: begin conservatively and raise them only after observing tick time and memory use.
- Operator access: grant it to as few administrators as possible, then use the in-game or console command to add named operators.
- Network port and address: keep the default unless your host or network design requires another port, and open only the required firewall or router rule.
These are standard Minecraft administration settings. The DDSS2 documentation does not publish pack-specific values, so there is no official “correct” view distance, difficulty, or whitelist policy to copy.

Start, stop, and verify
Start the server again with the same Forge launch method. Wait until the console reports that the server is ready, then connect locally or from the host’s test account. Confirm that a world directory, logs, player data, and the expected mod configuration files exist. Stop with the console’s normal stop command rather than killing the process; an abrupt shutdown can damage region or quest data.
Make every client match the server
Connection failures are usually version mismatches. Every player should install Minecraft 1.16.5, the same DDSS2-BETA 3.2 release, and the same Forge profile used by the server. A player who adds a “helpful” extra mod, removes a client-side file that the pack expects, or launches a different Forge build may receive a missing-mod, registry, or connection rejection.
When using CurseForge’s hosted workflow, the service supports a server-profile import containing the modpack, IP address, and connection details. That can reduce typing mistakes, but it does not make incompatible files compatible: the imported profile still has to match the server’s release.
For a self-hosted server, distribute the official client installation instructions and the server address through a private channel. Do not distribute operator credentials or expose the console port. Ask a new player to connect before inviting the entire group so you can catch a broken profile without creating a flood of identical log errors.

How much RAM does a DDSS2 server need?
There is no verified DDSS2 source value that guarantees a particular RAM allocation for every world and player count. The pack’s published size—330-plus mods, more than 1,204 quests, over 25 dimensions, and approximately 150,000 custom recipes—means administrators should measure the workload instead of assuming a small vanilla profile is enough.

Use these observations to size the server:
- Memory usage: watch the Java heap after startup, during exploration, while several players change dimensions, and when machines or large automation areas are active. Leave headroom rather than letting the heap remain full.
- CPU and tick time: a server can have free RAM and still lag if one or more ticks take too long. Check the host’s CPU graphs and the server’s timing or profiling output when players report delayed block updates.
- Startup duration: record how long a clean start takes. A long initial load is expected for a pack this large; a sudden increase after a mod or configuration change is a useful warning.
- Player and chunk load: note the number of concurrent players, explored dimensions, loaded chunks, and automation systems when evaluating a problem. A quiet test world does not represent a busy community evening.
- Java process limits: allocate memory through the host’s documented controls or the launch script, and avoid assigning every byte on the machine to Java. The operating system and host panel also need memory.
Increase resources in measured steps, then repeat the same workload. If more RAM does not improve tick time, investigate CPU saturation, a problematic chunk, entity growth, or a mod configuration rather than continuing to raise the heap.
Self-hosting versus managed DDSS2 hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, Forge arguments, backups, and beta rollbacks. It also makes you responsible for operating-system updates, firewall rules, storage, monitoring, recovery, and support. Managed hosting trades some file-level control for a panel, datacenter choice, automated tools, and provider support.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted machine or VPS | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Installation effort | You obtain the matching server pack, install Forge, configure Java and networking, and maintain the instance. | A panel may provide a pack selector or one-click installation; you still need to verify the release and configure the world. |
| Control of files and configs | Full access to scripts, mods, configs, logs, backups, and rollback copies. | Access depends on the provider’s panel, file manager, and plan restrictions. |
| Memory and CPU headroom | Determined by the machine you rent or own; you can usually change the hardware yourself. | Limited to the purchased plan and the provider’s node capacity; confirm upgrade paths. |
| Geographic latency | You choose the machine’s location. | You choose from the regions the provider currently offers. |
| Backups and support | You design and test backups and handle troubleshooting. | Some plans include backup tools or support, but retention, restore scope, and response times vary. |
| Monthly cost | Varies with hardware, bandwidth, electricity, and administration time. | Published plans provide a predictable recurring charge; verify current taxes, billing terms, and availability. |
| Beta pinning and rollback | Keep the exact ZIP, world copy, and configs and choose when to update. | Possible when file access and backups are available, but confirm that the panel does not automatically update the pack. |
CurseForge’s documented hosted workflow
CurseForge describes a five-stage hosted setup: choose the modpack and matching server pack, choose a plan, select a region, enter server details, and purchase. Its guide lists these RAM tiers and monthly prices:
Recommended Free Tools
| Plan | RAM listed by the guide | Monthly price listed by the guide |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | 4 GB | $12 per month |
| Gold | 8 GB | $24 per month |
| Diamond | 12 GB | $36 per month |
Those figures are a time-sensitive listing, not a permanent DDSS2 requirement. Recheck the current price, supported release, region availability, billing conditions, and RAM allocation at checkout. The guide says the service is powered by Shockbyte and billed through Tebex. Choose a region close to most players, upload or select the verified DDSS2-BETA 3.2 server pack, and use the resulting server-profile import if your players need connection details.
Other managed-host leads
Two providers publish dedicated DDSS2 pages. StickyPiston advertises a pre-installed DDSS2 BETA 3.2 server and assistance with optimization and management. WinterNode advertises one-click DDSS2 installation and links to its modpack-installation guide. Treat these as leads rather than endorsements. Before paying, confirm all of the following in writing:
- Support for DDSS2-BETA 3.2 and Minecraft 1.16.5, not merely an older DDSS2 entry.
- The exact RAM, CPU allocation, storage type, and player limits included in the selected plan.
- Datacenter regions, network protections, uptime terms, maintenance windows, and refund rules.
- Whether you can download a complete world and configuration backup and restore it yourself.
- Whether automatic modpack updates can be disabled so the beta release remains pinned.
- Any affiliate relationship, setup fee, renewal price, tax, or paid support condition.
Troubleshoot the problems that stop DDSS2 servers
The client cannot connect
- Check that the client is on Minecraft 1.16.5.
- Check that both sides use Forge, not a Fabric or vanilla profile.
- Check the exact DDSS2 release: DDSS2-BETA 3.2 must match the server.
- Compare the server’s
mods, config, anddefaultconfigswith a clean client installation. - Read the client and server logs for the first missing-mod, registry, or network error.
- Only after the files match, test firewall, port forwarding, DNS, or host networking.
The server pack is missing or appears to be the wrong file
Return to the official DDSS2 Files tab and identify the artifact associated with DDSS2-BETA 3.2. The public project information does not state a confirmed server-pack filename, so do not infer one from a client ZIP. If the listing is unclear, ask in the author’s Discord linked from the project page. Keep the questionable archive aside until its release and purpose are confirmed.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Startup is extremely long or the server lags
Large mod and recipe registries make a long first startup plausible. Let the process finish once and inspect the log for repeated errors rather than terminating it repeatedly. During play, monitor heap use, CPU load, and tick time while reproducing the lag. Reduce view or simulation distance, limit uncontrolled chunk loading, and investigate unusually active machines or entity farms before adding more memory. A RAM increase cannot fix a CPU-bound tick.

The beta update broke the world
Stop the server, restore the last known-good world and configuration backup, and relaunch with the archived release ZIP. Do not overwrite the only copy of the world while testing a newer beta. Compare logs from the working and failing versions, and update only after you have a fresh backup and a rollback path.
Backups, updates, and safe operations
Use a three-part backup
- World data: copy the world directory after a clean stop, including dimension and player data.
- Configuration: copy
server.properties, whitelist and operator files, DDSS2 configuration folders, scripts, and any custom datapacks. - Release record: archive the exact DDSS2 ZIP, Forge installer or runtime details, Java information, and a note describing the backup date.
Store at least one copy outside the server machine and periodically perform a test restore. A backup that has never been opened on a second location is only an assumption.
Update only as a controlled change
- Announce maintenance and stop the server cleanly.
- Make and verify a complete backup.
- Keep the current DDSS2 ZIP, Forge files, configs, and logs untouched.
- Install the new release in a separate directory or clearly marked staging copy.
- Test startup, world loading, quests, dimensions, and a player connection before switching the public address.
- Tell clients exactly which release to install and keep the previous instance available for rollback.
Because DDSS2-BETA 3.2 is labeled beta, pinning the release and retaining rollback files is more important than chasing every available update immediately.
