The errors you may see
Windows may display one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because dvaappsupport.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because dvaappsupport.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting dvaappsupport.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “dvaappsupport.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The application has failed to start because dvaappsupport.dll was not found. Re-installing the program may fix this problem.”

dvaappsupport.dll is an Adobe application file, not a Windows system file. It appears in Adobe Creative Cloud products including Photoshop, After Effects, Animate, Premiere Pro, Illustrator and Lightroom-related installations.
The safest fix is to update, repair or reinstall the specific Adobe application that produces the message through the Creative Cloud desktop app. Do not download dvaappsupport.dll from a random DLL website or copy it into C:WindowsSystem32.

If reinstalling one Adobe application does not help, repair Creative Cloud itself and then perform a clean Adobe installation.
What causes the error
The message usually means that an Adobe installation is incomplete or damaged. Common causes include:

- An Adobe update stopped before it finished.
- An installation or reinstallation failed.
- Antivirus software quarantined the file.
- A disk cleanup removed part of the Adobe installation.
- An old Adobe shortcut starts a different installation than the one you repaired.
- A DLL from one Adobe release was mixed with files from another release.
- A required dependency, rather than
dvaappsupport.dll, is missing. - The Creative Cloud installer has damaged state or permissions.
- Windows system corruption is affecting several applications.
Adobe crash reports identify dvaappsupport.dll in Adobe application directories and associate it with the Adobe DVA or photoshopdva component family. The exact folder depends on the Adobe product and installed version, so there is no single correct path for every computer.
The DLL’s internal purpose is not publicly documented in a reliable Adobe technical reference. It should therefore be treated as an application-local Adobe component, not as a Windows, DirectX, .NET or Visual C++ runtime file.
Fix 1: Update or reinstall the affected Adobe application
This is the most likely solution.
Identify the affected program
First, note which application produces the error. It may be Photoshop, After Effects, Animate, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Lightroom or another Adobe program.
Also record the complete error text and any path shown in the message. If the error appears when opening an old shortcut, right-click that shortcut, select Properties, and inspect the Target field. This can reveal that Windows is launching an old or moved Adobe installation.
Update the application
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.
- Select Apps.
- Open All Apps.
- Find the affected Adobe application.
- Select Update, if available.
- Wait for the update to finish, then restart Windows.
- Open the Adobe application again.
If the application opens normally, the missing or mismatched Adobe files have been restored.
Reinstall only the affected application
If updating does not help:
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps > All Apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows after removal.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Install the same application from All Apps.
- Test it before restoring third-party plug-ins or custom settings.
Reinstall the complete application rather than copying an individual DLL. Adobe components are often built as a matching group, and a same-named file from another Adobe product or release may not work with the neighboring files.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus software quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine an application file after an update or installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the Adobe application or
dvaappsupport.dll. - Expand the event and record the detected path and action.
Do not restore the file automatically. First confirm that:
- The file came from the Adobe installation directory.
- The Adobe application was installed through Creative Cloud.
- The file’s digital signature identifies Adobe.
- The detection is not associated with a modified, unofficial or unknown Adobe package.
If the origin is uncertain, reinstall the Adobe application instead. If the file is clearly from a valid Adobe installation and Windows Security identifies it as a false positive, review the available Restore or Allow on device action carefully. Microsoft warns that allowing a genuine threat can expose the computer.
After reinstalling, start the Adobe application before adding exclusions. If an exclusion is necessary, exclude only the verified Adobe application folder and keep Windows Security enabled.

Fix 3: Repair Creative Cloud itself
If multiple Adobe applications fail, or Creative Cloud cannot update or install applications, the installer may be damaged.
Recommended Free Tools
Use Adobe’s official Creative Cloud desktop uninstaller rather than deleting Adobe folders manually. Run it as administrator and select Repair when that option is offered.
Then:
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Sign in if prompted.
- Try updating or reinstalling the affected application.
- Test the application again.
If Creative Cloud repair fails, run the same official utility again and choose the uninstall option. Reinstall Creative Cloud from Adobe’s official installer, then reinstall the affected Adobe application.
Do not remove random Adobe folders from Program Files or the Windows registry while Creative Cloud is still installed. Manual deletion can leave the installer believing that an application is present when important files are gone.
Fix 4: Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool for repeated installation failures
Use the official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool when normal uninstall and reinstall operations repeatedly fail, updates roll back, or Creative Cloud cannot recognize the installed applications.
Before using it:
- Save active projects.
- Close all Adobe applications.
- Back up important presets, plug-ins and custom workspaces.
- Sign out of Creative Cloud if possible.
- Follow Adobe’s instructions for downloading and running the Cleaner Tool.
- Run it as administrator.
- Remove the affected Adobe installation or the damaged Creative Cloud components.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall Creative Cloud.
- Install the affected Adobe application again.
The Cleaner Tool removes Adobe installation files, registry entries and other remnants that can block a clean installation. It is more disruptive than reinstalling one application, so use it after the normal repair path.
Fix 5: Check the actual dependency named in the error
A loader message mentioning dvaappsupport.dll does not always mean that this file is missing. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that the DLL exists but one of its dependent libraries does not.
Look closely at the complete error. If it also names one of these files, the problem may involve the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime:
VCRUNTIME140.dllMSVCP140.dllconcrt140.dll
Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable packages only. The package names include:

On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit Adobe component may still require the x86 package. Installing only the x64 package does not replace the x86 runtime.

Install or repair the package that matches the application architecture, restart Windows and test Adobe again. Do not describe the Visual C++ runtime as the source of dvaappsupport.dll; it is a separate dependency.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when broader symptoms exist
dvaappsupport.dll is not normally restored by System File Checker because it belongs to Adobe, not Windows. Run Windows repair commands when other Windows applications or system features are also failing, or when the error identifies a Windows component.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Try the Adobe application again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. If both commands complete successfully but Adobe still reports the missing DLL, return to the Creative Cloud reinstall procedure.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slower. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the broader Windows issues that are difficult to identify manually; its free scan shows what it found, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling the affected Adobe application remains the definitive fix when the damaged file belongs to Adobe.
Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components.
There is no reliable evidence that dvaappsupport.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX library. Running this command is therefore unlikely to repair Adobe:
regsvr32 dvaappsupport.dll
It may produce an entry-point error, or Windows may fail to locate the file because the DLL is stored in an Adobe application directory rather than the current Command Prompt folder.

That creates a system-directory copy that Adobe may never use and can introduce an architecture or version mismatch.
Fix 8: Check drivers and plug-ins only if Adobe starts and then crashes
A graphics driver or third-party Adobe plug-in is relevant when the application launches and then crashes, not usually when Windows immediately reports a missing dvaappsupport.dll.
For a crash after startup:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Adobe.
If the problem began immediately after a graphics driver update, open the adapter’s Properties, select the Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver if available.
You can also temporarily remove or disable third-party Adobe plug-ins using the affected product’s documented troubleshooting process. Do not disable all security software or remove Adobe files at random.

Finding the correct driver manually can involve checking the hardware model, Windows architecture and several driver releases. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention; the free scan reports the findings, while driver installation requires the full version. Driver work is secondary here, and reinstalling Adobe remains the correct fix for a genuinely missing application DLL.
Fix 9: Consider System Restore after a recent change
If the error started immediately after an Adobe update, software installation or system change, and a suitable restore point exists:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the problem.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Record which Adobe applications or updates will be removed.
- Back up active projects.
- Complete System Restore.
System Restore normally preserves personal files, but it can remove a later Adobe installation or update. If it does not resolve the error, reinstall the affected Adobe application afterward.
Why downloading the DLL is unsafe
Random DLL repositories are a poor source for an Adobe application component. A downloaded file may contain malware, be the wrong architecture, belong to another Adobe release or require neighboring files that are also missing. Selecting the “highest” listed version does not make it compatible with the installed application.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Even a clean file copied into System32 may not fix the application because Adobe normally loads its own application-local copy. The safe sources are Creative Cloud, Adobe’s official repair and cleanup utilities, and Microsoft’s official runtime packages when the error names a Microsoft dependency.
FAQ
Is dvaappsupport.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence shows that Windows ships this DLL. It is associated with Adobe applications and should normally remain in an Adobe application directory.
Is it part of Adobe Animate?
Public listings associate the file with Adobe Animate, while Adobe diagnostics also show related DVA components in Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator and Lightroom-related applications. Identify the exact Adobe executable and path on the affected computer rather than assuming every installation uses the same folder.
Should I copy it to System32 or SysWOW64?
No. The available evidence points to application-local Adobe copies. Copying a 64-bit Adobe DLL into a Windows system directory can create a version or architecture mismatch.
Does the error mean the DLL itself is corrupt?
Not necessarily. A missing dependency can produce a similar loader message. Check whether the error also names a Visual C++ runtime or another library.
Should I run regsvr32?
Generally no. This is an application DLL, and there is no evidence that it exposes the registration entry point required by regsvr32.
What should I collect if reinstalling fails?
Record the exact error, Adobe product and version, full executable path, Windows version, antivirus Protection History entry, whether the file exists, and any Creative Cloud or Adobe installer log details. Also note whether the failure affects one Adobe application or several.
