dvanet.dll is a genuine Adobe application component associated with Adobe DVA and Dynamic Link media services, not a Windows system DLL. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Adobe application that owns the file through Creative Cloud, then check Microsoft Visual C++ only if the error also names a runtime DLL.
What this file actually does
Adobe crash reports place dvanet.dll inside Adobe application folders, including installations of Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom. It appears among related Adobe DVA modules such as dvacore.dll, dvamediatypes.dll, dvascripting.dll and dvatransport.dll.

The file is commonly associated with media processing and communication between Adobe components. It may be involved when Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop or Lightroom uses shared DVA or Dynamic Link functionality. Public crash data establishes these associations, but it does not provide a complete installer manifest for every Adobe version.
A normal location looks similar to:

The exact folder depends on the Adobe product and installed version. It should normally sit beside the Adobe executable or its related media components. It does not normally belong in:

Some older Adobe releases used 32-bit components, while current Adobe applications are commonly 64-bit. The replacement file must match the architecture and major version of the application using it. A 32-bit DLL cannot repair a 64-bit Adobe executable, and copying a file from a different Adobe release can create an entry-point error or another crash.
File listings may show sample metadata such as 64-bit builds numbered 16.1.1.4 or 19.2.0.405, with different file sizes. Those values are not universal version requirements. Do not decide whether a file is correct from its size or version number alone.
Causes by symptom
| Symptom | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| “dvanet.dll was not found” when Adobe starts | Incomplete, corrupted or quarantined Adobe installation | Repair or reinstall the affected Adobe application |
| “The procedure entry point could not be located” | Adobe DVA modules are from mismatched versions | Update or reinstall related Adobe applications together |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” | Damaged file, wrong architecture or incompatible replacement | Remove the loose replacement and reinstall the Adobe application |
| Adobe crashes after an update or rollback | Failed update or stale files from an older installation | Restart, then repair or reinstall from Creative Cloud |
The message names msvcp*.dll, msvcr*.dll or vcruntime*.dll |
Microsoft Visual C++ runtime is missing or damaged | Repair the matching Visual C++ Redistributable |
| The file exists but Adobe still fails | Wrong folder, blocked file or mismatched companion modules | Check the executable path, quarantine history and Adobe versions |
| Only Dynamic Link fails between Adobe programs | Premiere Pro and After Effects are incompatible versions | Update or reinstall both applications to compatible major versions |
| Several unrelated programs fail | Possible Windows component corruption | Run Windows Update, DISM and SFC |
The problem often begins after an Adobe update, an interrupted installation, a rollback, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup or removal of an older Adobe release. It can also occur when two Adobe applications that communicate through Dynamic Link are on incompatible major versions.

Fix the Adobe installation first
This is the most likely solution when the message specifically names dvanet.dll.
1. Restart and close Adobe background processes
- Save any open work.
- Close Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Lightroom and other Adobe applications.
- Restart Windows.
- Try opening the affected application once.
A restart can release a locked file and complete a pending installer operation. If the same error returns, continue with Creative Cloud.
2. Reinstall the affected Adobe application
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps.
- Open All Apps.
- Find the Adobe application that fails.
- Select the More actions button represented by three dots.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts. Preserve preferences when Creative Cloud offers that choice unless the installation is severely damaged.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Select Install for the affected application.
- Launch the application after installation finishes.
The reinstall should restore dvanet.dll together with the matching DVA modules. It also places the file beside the correct Adobe executable rather than in a Windows system directory.
If the problem occurs only when Premiere Pro communicates with After Effects, update or reinstall both applications. Dynamic Link depends on compatible Adobe versions, so repairing only one application may leave mismatched media components behind.

3. Repair Creative Cloud itself
If Creative Cloud cannot uninstall or reinstall the application, the desktop installation may be damaged.
- Close Creative Cloud from its system-tray icon.
- Download Adobe’s official Creative Cloud desktop uninstaller using a trusted Adobe support page.
- Right-click the uninstaller and select Run as administrator.
- Choose Repair when offered.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Creative Cloud and retry the Adobe application installation.
- If repair fails, run the uninstaller again and remove Creative Cloud, then reinstall Creative Cloud from Adobe’s official installer.
Do not manually delete random Adobe folders before preserving projects, plug-ins, presets and synced files. Removing shared components prematurely can make recovery harder.

Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can block or quarantine an Adobe file during installation.
- Open Windows Security by selecting Start, typing
Windows Security, and pressing Enter. - Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
dvanet.dllor the Adobe installation folder. - Check the full path shown by the security product.
- Restore the file only if the path clearly belongs to the genuine Adobe installation and the Adobe installation itself is trusted.
- Add an exclusion only according to your organization’s security policy, and do not disable protection permanently.
- Repair or reinstall the Adobe application after restoring or allowing the file.
If a third-party endpoint security product is installed, inspect its quarantine and application-blocking history as well. A restored file may still be incomplete or damaged, so Adobe repair remains the definitive step.
If the file was found in a temporary folder, a download directory or an unofficial Adobe build, do not restore it. Remove the unauthorized software, scan Windows, and install Adobe from its official distribution.
Repair Microsoft Visual C++ when the error names it
Visual C++ is a possible dependency, but it is not the normal explanation for an Adobe-owned dvanet.dll that is simply missing. Focus on this step when the dialog also mentions files such as msvcp*.dll, msvcr*.dll or vcruntime*.dll, or when Adobe shows several runtime errors.
Microsoft provides the official installers on its Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads page.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Select the matching package.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Adobe again.
For a 64-bit Adobe application, use vc_redist.x64.exe. For a 32-bit Adobe application or older 32-bit helper component, use vc_redist.x86.exe. When several Adobe generations and helper processes are installed, installing both official architectures is reasonable because the packages are separate. It does not prove that Visual C++ caused the original failure.
Microsoft documents that current Visual C++ Redistributables for Visual Studio 2015–2022 are binary-compatible across those toolsets, while x64 and x86 remain different architectures.
Update Windows and repair Windows components
Windows repair commands cannot normally recreate an Adobe-owned dvanet.dll. Use them when Windows itself reports damaged components, multiple unrelated applications fail, or the problem began alongside a Windows update.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Select Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the permission prompt.
- Run these commands in order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish before running the next. DISM repairs the Windows component store. sfc checks protected Windows files.

Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it found no integrity violations or repaired damaged files. Restart Windows and test Adobe. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the Windows Update check and review the command output, but reinstall Adobe separately because SFC is not an Adobe file-recovery mechanism.

Check architecture, paths and mismatched Adobe files
When the file is present but the application reports an entry point error, suspect a mixed Adobe installation.
- Right-click the Adobe shortcut and select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the path in Target.
- In File Explorer, open that folder.
- Confirm that
dvanet.dllis in the same Adobe application directory or the documented shared component directory used by that installation. - Do not replace it with a file copied from another Adobe version.
- Check the installed Adobe applications in Creative Cloud and bring related products to compatible major versions.
- If the error continues, uninstall and reinstall the affected application.
A file in the wrong folder can be ignored by the loader, while a file from an older installation can load but fail when another module requests a procedure that it does not export. The latter commonly produces “procedure entry point not found” rather than a simple missing-file message.
If the failure appears only during Premiere Pro–After Effects interaction, test each application independently. If both launch alone but Dynamic Link fails, update or reinstall the related applications as a compatible set.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Update graphics and related drivers only for broader Adobe crashes
A graphics driver does not normally restore a missing dvanet.dll, so driver work is secondary. Consider it when Adobe crashes with display-driver errors, GPU initialization failures or broader rendering problems.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Adobe again.
You can also install a driver from the graphics hardware manufacturer’s official support page. Confirm whether the driver is intended for the installed Windows architecture and graphics device.
Manually hunting through hardware models and driver packages can be time-consuming when several devices are stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while driver installation is handled by its full version; it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Adobe program that owns dvanet.dll.
Why you should not use regsvr32
Do not treat this as a routine repair:
regsvr32 dvanet.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components. Microsoft documents this behavior in its regsvr32 command reference.

Running the command will usually produce an error or change nothing. Adobe application DLLs are normally discovered through the application’s folder and loaded according to the application’s dependencies, not registered globally in Windows.
Avoid loose DLL downloads
Do not download dvanet.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into System32, SysWOW64 or the Adobe folder.

A loose download may contain malware, belong to a different Adobe build, use the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture, or require companion modules that are still missing. It can also conceal the real problem, such as a failed update or antivirus quarantine.
Use Creative Cloud or Adobe’s official installer to restore the complete matching application. If you already copied an unofficial file, remove it from the Adobe directory and reinstall the affected application rather than trying to make that replacement work.
Advanced recovery options
Use Adobe’s Cleaner Tool
If normal uninstall and reinstall still leave the same error:
- Back up projects, presets, plug-ins and other Adobe product content.
- Close all Adobe applications.
- Download Adobe’s official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
- Run it as administrator.
- Select only the affected Adobe product or damaged Creative Cloud installation.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Adobe application from Creative Cloud.
The Cleaner Tool removes installation remnants that ordinary uninstall may leave behind. Use it carefully because it can remove product data and plug-in-related content.
Consider System Restore
Use System Restore when the failure started immediately after a Windows or Adobe change and a restore point exists.
- Press
Win + R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the failure.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is a fallback, not a replacement for repairing Adobe. Keep current project files backed up before using it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTest another Windows profile
If only one Windows account experiences the problem:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create a temporary local test account.
- Sign in to that account.
- Test the Adobe application.
If Adobe works there, profile permissions, caches or per-user configuration may be involved. If it fails in both accounts, the Adobe installation is more likely damaged.
When to escalate
Before contacting Adobe support, collect:
- The exact error text.
- The full path of the executable and
dvanet.dll. - The Adobe product and major version.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether Premiere Pro, After Effects or Media Encoder are also installed.
- Creative Cloud installation logs.
- The relevant Windows Event Viewer application error.
- Antivirus quarantine details.
Open Event Viewer by pressing Win + R, entering eventvwr.msc, and selecting Windows Logs > Application. Look for an error at the time of the crash and record the failing application name and module path.

FAQ
Is dvanet.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Adobe DVA and Dynamic Link application components. It should normally be restored through the Adobe application that installed it.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Which Adobe application installs it?
Public Adobe crash reports associate it with Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom, and with shared Adobe DVA or Dynamic Link functionality. The exact owning package varies by Adobe product and version.
Should I put it in System32?
No. Adobe application DLLs are normally deployed beside the Adobe executable or within its application components.
Is Visual C++ the main fix?
Usually not when only dvanet.dll is missing. Repair Visual C++ when the error also names msvcp, msvcr or vcruntime files, or when several Microsoft runtime errors appear.
Can SFC restore the file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not third-party Adobe application files.
What does an entry-point error mean?
It usually means the file exists but does not match the Adobe modules requesting it. Repair or reinstall the affected Adobe applications so their DVA components come from a compatible build.
Is dvanet.dll malware?
There is no reliable evidence that the genuine Adobe component is malicious. Verify its path and signature, scan the system, and reinstall Adobe if the file came from an unofficial source.
What is the correct final fix?
Repair or reinstall the Adobe application through Creative Cloud, with related Adobe applications brought to compatible versions. That restores the complete component set instead of treating one DLL as an isolated Windows file.
