dgderapi.dll is usually a third-party Device Error Recovery SDK file installed by Samsung, Broadcom, or another device utility, not a Windows system file. The dependable fix is to identify the program that owns it and repair or reinstall that complete application or driver package instead of downloading a loose DLL.
What this file actually does
Public file metadata identifies dgderapi.dll with Device Error Recovery SDK, attributed to Devguru Co., Ltd. Copies found in Samsung USB-driver installations have also been reported with a Samsung Electronics digital signature. Older software inventories associate the file with some Broadcom wireless-driver packages.

That does not mean every dgderapi.dll belongs to Samsung or Broadcom. The filename alone cannot identify the exact application that is failing.
It should normally remain in the application or driver folder that installed it. It is not a normal Windows component and should not be copied into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 by default.

Reported builds include:
| Architecture | Reported version | Reported size |
|---|---|---|
| 32-bit (x86) | 1.4.4.0 | Approximately 0.85 MB |
| 64-bit (x64) | 1.5.33.0 | Approximately 1.01 MB |
These are examples from particular file records, not a universal latest-version list. A 32-bit application needs its x86-compatible file even on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit application needs an x64-compatible build.
Causes matched to symptoms
| Symptom or timing | Likely cause | Correct direction |
|---|---|---|
| Error appeared after reinstalling Windows | The original device utility was not reinstalled | Install the vendor’s complete package |
| Started after updating a phone or wireless driver | An incomplete or incompatible update | Reinstall or roll back the parent driver |
| Appeared after removing Samsung Kies or USB software | A leftover startup entry still calls the removed file | Reinstall the required package or remove the stale software |
| Antivirus reports or quarantines the file | The file was removed, or the detection needs investigation | Review Protection history before restoring anything |
| Started after cleanup or manual deletion | The application folder is incomplete | Repair or reinstall the owning application |
| “Specified module could not be found” remains after restoring the DLL | A dependency may be missing | Repair the parent program and inspect the failing executable |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” appears | Wrong architecture, damaged file, or incompatible build | Install the matching vendor package |
| Error appears during startup with no visible app | A stale Samsung or Broadcom startup item may remain | Identify and remove or reinstall the parent application |
What the error messages mean
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because dgderapi.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because dgderapi.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading dgderapi.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “There was a problem starting dgderapi.dll.”
- “dgderapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Failed to load dgderapi.dll.”
These are common Windows loader messages, not a definitive diagnosis.
In particular, “specified module could not be found” does not always mean that dgderapi.dll itself is absent. It can mean that the DLL exists but one of its required dependencies is missing or incompatible.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFix 1: Identify the owning program first
Do this before downloading or copying anything.
Check the application list
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for names related to:
- Samsung USB drivers
- Samsung Kies or phone-management software
- Broadcom wireless utilities
- The device software that was recently removed or updated
- Select a likely program and choose Advanced options, if available.
- Use Repair first. If Repair is unavailable or fails, choose Uninstall.
Restart Windows after uninstalling. Then install the current package from the device manufacturer’s official support page. For Samsung Android connectivity, use Samsung’s official Android USB Driver for Windows page. For Broadcom hardware, use the computer or adapter manufacturer’s driver page rather than a generic DLL repository.
Find the file path
If a copy still exists:
- Press Windows key + E.
- Search the affected application’s installation folders for
dgderapi.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Check the product description, company information, and file version.
- Open Digital Signatures and select a signature.
- Choose Details and confirm whether Windows reports that the signature is valid.
A path under a Samsung USB-driver directory supports the Samsung connection, but the path and signature belong to that particular copy. Do not assume another copy is trustworthy merely because it has the same filename.
Identify the executable raising the error
If Windows shows the error during startup:
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
- Open Startup apps.
- Disable an obsolete Samsung, Broadcom, or device utility entry temporarily.
- Restart Windows.
- If the error disappears, uninstall that obsolete parent program through Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
If the error appears only when launching a particular program, that program is the first repair target.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the parent package
This is the most likely successful fix.
- Close the affected application.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the suspected Samsung, Broadcom, or device application.
- Select Advanced options → Repair, when available.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the original application or reconnect the device.
If Repair does not work:
- Return to Installed apps.
- Uninstall the affected application or driver utility.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the complete installer from the hardware manufacturer.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart again and test the application.
For a Samsung phone or USB connection, install Samsung’s official Android USB Driver for Windows rather than searching for dgderapi.dll separately. For a wireless device, use the PC manufacturer’s support page or the adapter manufacturer’s official driver package.

Fix 3: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A wrong architecture can produce “not designed to run on Windows” errors or leave the file apparently present but unusable.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform, if your Windows version provides it.
- Check whether the failing executable is 32-bit or 64-bit.
You can also inspect the application’s installation location. A 32-bit application may be under C:Program Files (x86), while a 64-bit application is commonly under C:Program Files. This location is a clue, not proof.
Do not place both x86 and x64 copies into Windows system folders. Reinstall the parent package so it supplies the architecture that its executable expects.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have removed the file, or it may have flagged a damaged or suspicious copy.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the relevant detection.
- Review the threat name, original path, publisher, and date shown by Windows Security.
- If the file came from the original signed vendor installer and the detection is clearly a false positive, use the available Restore or Allow on device action.
- Reinstall the parent application afterward if the program remains incomplete.
Restore a quarantined file only after validating its source and signature. If the path is a temporary folder, a download folder, or an untrusted location, remove it and reinstall from the vendor instead. Allowing a genuinely malicious file can put the computer at risk.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the device driver
If the error started after a hardware-driver change, repair the driver package rather than replacing the DLL.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Universal Serial Bus controllers, Network adapters, or Portable Devices.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and version.
- Select Update Driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- If that does not help, return to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver, when available.
- If the driver installation is clearly damaged, select Uninstall Device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the latest complete driver package from the computer or device manufacturer.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through many hardware-driver versions: its free scan shows what it identifies, while the repair or driver installation is done by the full version. For a file tied to a specific Samsung, Broadcom, or other device package, reinstalling that vendor’s software remains the definitive fix.

Windows Update can also provide a replacement driver:
- Open Settings → Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Open Advanced options → Optional updates → Driver updates, if offered.
- Install the relevant driver and restart.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker do not normally recreate a third-party dgderapi.dll. They are useful when Windows servicing files or a dependency have also been damaged.

- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it found no integrity violations or repaired corrupted files. If SFC reports that it could not repair everything, restart and run it once more after DISM completes. If the DLL error remains, return to the parent application repair; SFC is not a substitute for reinstalling third-party software.
When repeatedly running repair commands is becoming guesswork, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its scan identifies; the repair is completed by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the Samsung, Broadcom, or other application that owns this DLL.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
Use System Restore when the error began immediately after a driver update, application installation, or cleanup operation.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Choose a different restore point, if offered.
- Pick a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Next → Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can reverse system and application configuration changes, but it does not guarantee recovery of every third-party file. If the problem continues, reinstall the original parent package.
Do not use regsvr32 as a default fix
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It does not download a missing file, repair a damaged installation, or make an arbitrary runtime DLL compatible.
There is no reliable evidence that dgderapi.dll requires COM registration. Running commands such as these is therefore not a general solution:
regsvr32 dgderapi.dll
regsvr32 /u dgderapi.dll
Use regsvr32 only when the application vendor specifically documents that this DLL must be registered and supplies the correct command and architecture.
Avoid standalone DLL downloads
Do not download dgderapi.dll from random DLL websites. A file with the right name can have the wrong architecture, version, dependencies, or malicious modifications, and copying it into System32 often leaves the original broken installation untouched.
The safe sources are:
- The original application’s official installer
- Samsung’s official Android USB Driver for Windows package
- The computer or adapter manufacturer’s official Broadcom driver package
- Windows Update for drivers offered for your hardware
The Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is not a generic fix for this file. dgderapi.dll is identified with Device Error Recovery SDK, not as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. Install a Microsoft runtime only when the failing application separately reports a missing runtime such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll.
If reinstalling the apparent owner does not help
Work through these checks:
- Reproduce the error and note which executable launches it.
- Search the entire application folder for multiple copies of
dgderapi.dll. - Check each copy’s Properties → Digital Signatures tab.
- Review Event Viewer:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Check errors recorded at the time of the failure.
- Look for a dependency error rather than assuming the named DLL is the only problem.
- Check Startup apps for a stale Samsung or Broadcom entry.
- Remove obsolete software instead of supplying it with a loose DLL.
- If the application is old, obtain its installer from the hardware vendor or original installation media and verify the installed file.
Different programs can own different builds. Never overwrite one application’s copy with a copy taken from another installation.

FAQ
Is dgderapi.dll part of Windows?
No evidence indicates that it ships with Windows. It is associated with a third-party Device Error Recovery SDK and is commonly encountered with device software.
Is it a Samsung file?
Some public samples found in Samsung USB-driver installations carry a Samsung Electronics signature. That does not prove that every file with this name is Samsung-owned.
Is it related to Visual C++ 2015?
The file is not identified as a Visual C++ runtime. Microsoft’s redistributable packages provide Microsoft runtime libraries, while dgderapi.dll is identified with Device Error Recovery SDK.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. Install the parent program or driver and let its installer place the correct file in the correct application directory.
Do I need the 32-bit or 64-bit version?
Match the file to the application that loads it. A 32-bit program needs the x86 build even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
Why does Windows say the specified module is missing when the file exists?
The loader may be unable to find a dependency required by dgderapi.dll. Repairing the complete parent package is safer than replacing the visible file alone.
Can I fix it with System File Checker?
SFC can repair Windows components and some dependencies, but it normally will not restore a third-party Samsung, Broadcom, or application DLL. Reinstall the owning package if SFC does not resolve the error.
