Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Dying Light 2 stutter is most often resolved by updating the game, installing current graphics and Windows drivers, forcing the dedicated GPU and maximum-power mode, applying Techland’s documented V-Sync configuration, reducing demanding settings, closing background software, and verifying the installation. If you are on an older build, update immediately: Techland says Hotfix 1.27.1 corrected DX11 stuttering. The sequence below separates game-build problems from hardware, power, configuration and file issues, without promising a particular frame rate.
Why Dying Light 2 can drop frames or stutter
A frame-rate drop is a sustained reduction in frames per second, while stutter is an uneven delivery of frames that feels like hitching even when the average FPS looks acceptable. Moving through Villedor can expose several limits at once: the game may be running an old build, Windows or GPU drivers may be outdated, a laptop may be using its integrated graphics, a power profile may be limiting the processor or graphics card, background software may be competing for resources, or damaged game files may be loading incorrectly.

Meeting the minimum specification only establishes that the game can run at its minimum target. It does not put the system in the same performance class as the recommended specification, and it does not guarantee smooth frame delivery. A system that is near the minimum can therefore show larger drops when a scene becomes more demanding.

Install the latest available build
Open the launcher that owns Dying Light 2 and let it finish every pending update. Techland’s patch archive states: “Issues with stuttering on DX11 are corrected in Hotfix 1.27.1.” Hotfix 1.27.1 is a minimum reference point for diagnosing DX11 hitching, not a signal to stop updating; later builds may include additional corrections. After the update completes, restart Windows and launch the game again.

If the launcher reports that the game is current but the installed build appears older than the current public release, restart the launcher, check its download queue and confirm that the game is installed in the library you are actually launching. Do not evaluate graphics changes until the update has finished, because an old executable can make every later test misleading.
Check your PC against the Reloaded Edition requirements
Steam lists the following PC baselines for Dying Light 2 Reloaded Edition. These figures were listed in 2022 and describe minimum and recommended configurations, not a measured FPS result.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-9100 or AMD Ryzen 3 2300X | 3.6 GHz-or-better Intel/AMD processor, such as Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti or AMD RX 560, with 4 GB VRAM | NVIDIA RTX 2060 with 6 GB VRAM or AMD RX Vega 56 with 8 GB VRAM, or newer |
| Storage | 60 GB | 60 GB |
Check the processor, installed RAM, graphics card and VRAM in Windows before troubleshooting. On a laptop, identify both the integrated and dedicated graphics adapters; the game should use the dedicated adapter when one is present. If your system is below the minimum, software changes may reduce hitching but cannot turn it into a recommended-class machine. If it meets only the minimum, begin with lower video settings and expect less headroom for busy scenes.
Apply the manual fixes in this order
1. Update GPU, chipset, audio and Windows drivers
Download graphics, chipset and audio drivers from the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel, and install all pending Windows updates through Windows Update. Restart after installation, even if the installer does not insist on it. A graphics driver update addresses the rendering path; chipset and Windows updates can affect how the processor, memory and PCIe devices are scheduled; an audio driver update removes another possible source of device conflicts.
Record the driver version before and after the change. If the stutter begins immediately after a particular driver installation, use the manufacturer’s rollback option or reinstall the previous known-good package, then test again. Keep one variable changed at a time so you can identify which update altered the behavior.

2. Put a laptop on AC power and select maximum performance
Connect the charger before launching the game. In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery and set Power mode to Best performance when that option is available. Windows 10 exposes the equivalent choice under Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings; select a high-performance plan if your edition provides it.
Also select the dedicated GPU for Dying Light 2. In Windows 11, go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the game executable if it is not listed, choose Options, select High performance, and save. Laptop firmware or the GPU vendor’s control panel may provide an additional graphics-switching option. Techland specifically recommends maximum-power settings and the dedicated video card for this problem class.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTest while the laptop is cool and unobstructed. If performance is smooth for a few minutes and then degrades as the machine heats up, note the temperature behavior for your support ticket; do not interpret a temporary improvement from a cold start as a permanent fix.
3. Configure V-Sync as Techland documents
For an NVIDIA GPU, open NVIDIA Control Panel, choose Manage 3D settings, open Program Settings, select Dying Light 2, and set Vertical sync to On. In the game’s video options, set its own V-Sync option to Off. This is the configuration Techland documents for Dying Light 2; it is not a universal recommendation for every game.
Apply the setting, relaunch the game and test the same route or activity that normally stutters. If the behavior becomes worse, restore the previous setting and continue with the remaining checks. V-Sync changes frame presentation; it cannot compensate for a system that is below the game’s hardware requirements.

4. Lower the most demanding video settings
Start from the game’s current preset and lower the options that place the greatest load on the GPU or consume the most VRAM. Change one group of settings at a time, apply it, and replay the same section of Villedor. Keep a short note of the setting, the observed hitching and whether the frame-time pattern improved.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not change the resolution, upscaling mode, quality preset and every advanced option simultaneously if you are trying to find a cause. A broad reduction can make the game easier to run, but a controlled sequence tells you whether the limit is graphics load or something outside the renderer. There is no authoritative test result establishing a guaranteed FPS gain from any particular setting combination.
5. Close unnecessary background programs and overlays
Before launching, close programs that can consume CPU, RAM, disk or GPU time while you play. Techland’s support guidance specifically calls out unnecessary background programs, overlays, VPN tools and driver managers. Exit them rather than merely minimizing their windows, then test again after a clean reboot if needed.
Keep the test consistent: use the same game area, resolution and graphics settings, and avoid downloading or synchronizing files in the background. If closing one program changes the result, add it back later to confirm that it was the trigger instead of assuming that every background process is harmful.
6. Verify the game files
In Steam, open Library, right-click Dying Light 2, choose Properties, open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the process to finish and allow Steam to reacquire any damaged or missing files. Other launchers provide a similarly named verify or repair command in the game’s management menu.

Restart the launcher after verification and retest. Verification does not replace a driver update or a hardware check: it answers whether the local installation is intact, not whether the PC can sustain the recommended workload.

Stutter appears only on DX11 or on an old installation
Prioritize the game update. Techland’s Hotfix 1.27.1 explicitly corrected DX11 stuttering, so an unpatched installation is the strongest evidence-based explanation in this category. After updating, retest before changing several graphics options.
Stutter follows a driver, Windows or hardware change
Reinstall the current official GPU package, confirm chipset and audio drivers are also current, and reboot. Compare the driver version with the one that worked previously. If the issue remains, document the change and continue through the power, V-Sync, background-process and file-verification checks instead of repeatedly reinstalling unrelated drivers.
Performance is poor only on a battery-powered laptop
Connect AC power, select the maximum-power profile and force the dedicated GPU. If the game was previously routed to integrated graphics, changing video settings alone will not correct that routing decision.
Hitching improves after closing programs
Reopen background applications one at a time to identify the conflict. Overlays, VPN software and driver managers are specifically worth testing because Techland lists them among programs to close during troubleshooting. Leave the confirmed conflict closed while playing or configure it not to start with Windows.

File verification finds and replaces files
Allow the launcher to complete the repair, then restart it and run the same in-game test. If verification repeatedly replaces files, check the drive for free space and stability and avoid interrupting updates; persistent replacement should be included in a support request.
What about DLSS?
The authoritative material for this issue identifies a DX11 stutter correction in Hotfix 1.27.1 but does not establish DLSS as a root cause, nor does it provide a benchmark proving that enabling or disabling DLSS fixes every system. Treat DLSS as a configuration variable rather than a diagnosis.
To test it responsibly, record the current mode, resolution and graphics preset, change only the DLSS setting, and replay the same route. If the hitching changes, repeat the test once with the original setting to rule out a temporary difference caused by loading or background activity. Keep the mode that gives you the steadier result on your hardware, but do not infer that the setting is universally defective from one PC.

When to contact Techland support
Submit a Techland support ticket when the game is fully updated and the manual sequence has not resolved the problem. Include your CPU model, GPU model and VRAM, installed RAM, Windows version, game build, graphics settings, whether the laptop is on AC power, which GPU is selected, the V-Sync configuration, the result of file verification and the exact location or activity where stutter occurs. State whether the issue began after a driver or game update. These details let support distinguish a DX11 build issue from a system, routing or installation problem.
No independent benchmark or controlled test establishes a guaranteed FPS value for these remedies. The practical goal is consistent frame delivery on a configuration that meets the game’s requirements, not a promised number that applies to every PC.
Quick Recap
As an optional shortcut after the manual checks, Outbyte Driver Updater scans more than 100 devices for outdated, corrupted or missing drivers, installs only official drivers, shows current and recommended versions, and provides driver backup, restore and scheduled scans. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7; the 2-day free trial requires no credit card before a subscription. Results vary, and no utility repairs every game stutter.
