Dying Light: The Beast Update 1.3 added a chance for human enemies armed with melee weapons to surrender when they recognize a firearm aimed at them. The October 30, 2025 update also introduced nine weapon finishers and addressed quest blockers, co-op performance, stability, visuals, and crafting balance. It is a historical update: Techland’s official news index listed Update 1.7, published September 17, 2026, as the latest patch-note release as of October 8, 2026.
What changed in Dying Light: The Beast Update 1.3?
The headline change is a new reaction for human enemies carrying melee weapons: when one recognizes that the player is aiming a firearm at them, it may surrender rather than keep fighting. Techland says the encounter can unfold in different ways depending on the player’s actions. The patch notes do not specify the chance of surrender or enumerate every possible outcome, so it is not a guaranteed response from every human enemy.
Update 1.3 also added nine finishers, fixed several progression and co-op issues, and made technical, audiovisual, and economy adjustments. Techland published the update notes on October 30, 2025. Techland’s official news index later listed the Anniversary Update 1.7 notes, dated September 17, 2026, as the latest patch-note item as of October 8, 2026.
New enemy behavior: melee enemies may surrender
The surrender behavior applies to human enemies using melee weapons. If they notice a firearm aimed at them, they might choose to surrender. The wording matters: the notes do not say that all human enemies are affected, that the reaction always occurs, or that aiming alone guarantees a particular result. Techland says what happens next depends on the player’s actions, but does not publish specific triggers or outcomes.

Quest and progression fixes
Several fixes targeted specific mission blockers and behaviors rather than changing the campaign as a whole:
- “Precious Cargo”: fixed an issue that could prevent picking up a cable and corrected door behavior after saving and loading. The update also balanced the bullets received during the quest.
- “Chain Reaction”: fixed a movement lock that could occur after disabling gas cylinders.
- “Hunting Yaga”: fixed a potential blocker if the player closed doors after killing the scientist.
- “One Flew Over the Volatiles’ Nest”: fixed a co-op respawn that could place a player outside the mission area.
- “What lurks beyond the Pine”: improved Volatile behavior.
- “The Beast Within”: corrected misplaced investigation triggers in the convoy.
- “Power Gambit”: adjusted Suicider despawning.
Other gameplay fixes addressed NPC duplication in HUBs in certain cases, unintended Hive encounter cooldown triggers, crafting and inventory inconsistencies, and terrain locations where players could get stuck.
Co-op performance, stability, and visual fixes
Techland listed crash fixes across platforms, stability improvements when creating saves and during long sessions, and fixes for multiple cases of co-op performance degradation and FPS drops. The notes also cite improvements to level-of-detail (LOD) and texture streaming.

Call of the Beast: Week 3
The Sharpshooter community challenge ran from October 30 to November 6, 2025. Its goals were 10 million accurate shots for The Marksman car skin and 20 million for the Bullseye rifle. No. Update 1.3 is useful as a record of what changed in that release, not as an indicator of the current build. Techland’s official news index listed the Anniversary Update 1.7 notes, published September 17, 2026, as the latest patch-note entry as of October 8, 2026.
