“Cries Trapped in the Walls” is a side quest in Dying Light: The Beast. The safest asylum route is to rely on Psychic Masking without touching infected, reach the generator through Block A’s vents, use a corpse’s hand to open Block B’s biometric reader, then escape through the windows when the alarm starts. Outside, move quickly through the timed Town Hall objectives before the Chimera fights.

This spoiler-forward walkthrough follows the route described by Neoseeker’s quest guide; its combat suggestions are guide-reported tactics, not independently tested strategies.

Before entering the asylum

  1. Follow the waypoint to the cabin and enter through the back door to meet Lydia and Camilo.
  2. If possible, clear the nearby safe zone before proceeding. The guide notes it can help after the Volatile chase.
  3. Enter the asylum through the front door. Before going farther, check the reception shelves for the collectible “Project: 1913: Subject Kurt.”

Psychic Masking prevents infected from attacking during this section unless you get close enough to touch them. Use Survivor Sense to spot them, and give sleepers and the roaming Volatile a wide berth. The masking is not protection against brushing into an infected.

Find and start the basement generator

  1. After the scene, go left into reception, head upstairs, and try the door on the left to trigger a call to Camilo.
  2. Go back downstairs, find the painted “A” sign, and crawl through the vent.
  3. In the basement, use Survivor Sense to check where infected are. The left hallway is blocked by sleepers; go into the room ahead and take its vent instead.
  4. In the next room, check for a collectible with Survivor Sense, taking care not to touch infected. Before entering the hallway, check the Volatile’s position.
  5. Take the map from the wall. After the steps, pick the locked door on the right and switch on the generator.

Get the access card and reach Block B

  1. Open the elevator doors across the hall and climb to the top. Check where the Volatile is before crossing.
  2. Use the vent in the padded room to reach the room with a dead scientist. Take the Access Card and look for the nearby collectible.
  3. Return to the hall and use the card at the access panel to get back to the lobby, then enter Block B.

Open the restricted area and take Neuroraze

  1. Wait for the Volatile to move away before crossing the sleeping area. Enter the office through the broken window.
  2. The restricted-area door uses a fingerprint reader. Take the floor map in Block B, then use the Access Card at the double doors.
  3. Search the second room on the right for the medical data and morphine listed by the guide. Use the vent to reach the adjacent room.
  4. Inspect the corpse and cut off its hand. Return to the restricted area and use the hand at the biometric reader.
  5. Take Neuroraze from the locked cabinet on the left. Survivor Sense can reveal a nearby collectible; the guide also lists a Military Medkit in this area.

Taking an item triggers the alarm and starts the chase. Once you have the drug, prioritize the exit rather than searching further.

Escape the asylum

  1. After the cutscene, jump through the open window.
  2. Go straight into Block A; do not take the lobby stairs.
  3. Enter the treatment room, cross it, and run to the end of the hallway.
  4. Jump out of the window at the hallway’s end, then head to the nearest safe zone.

Defend Town Hall and collect the gas grenades

Reach Town Hall

Follow the waypoint toward Old Town. During the conversation with Lydia, Keller calls to warn that the Baron is attacking Town Hall. Neoseeker’s guide reports a 1 minute 30 second timer to arrive and recommends equipping the Grappling Hook and using tall buildings to move quickly.

Destroy the mortars

At Town Hall, turn off the gas dispenser and eliminate the Baron’s soldiers. The next objective gives you 8 minutes to clear soldiers at three mortar locations and destroy each mortar. The guide warns that leaving soldiers alive can mean backtracking, so clear each location as you go.

Collect the gas grenades

Return to Town Hall and collect the gas grenades within the guide-reported 2 minute 40 second timer. Avoid infected while completing this timed objective.

Handle the Chimera fights

For the first Chimera, the guide recommends arrows. It advises saving the Beast Gauge for the following fight against two Chimeras, focusing attacks on one target, and using ranged attacks aimed at the head or torso. The guide says Lydia takes control of one Chimera when it reaches 50% health. Treat these as its suggested tactics rather than a confirmed optimal strategy.

If the hallway door will not open

A Steam Community discussion dated October 1–19, 2025 includes a player report of being unable to open a hallway door after taking the medicine; the post describes the door as requiring a card that could not be found. That report does not establish how common the issue is, whether it was patched, or a reliable fix. Check your quest marker and confirm you collected the Access Card, then try the escape route through the open window and onward through Block A described above. A commenter also described a co-op workaround involving one player staying behind while another advanced, but that is anecdotal, not a confirmed solution: Steam Community discussion.
