That creates a new fortified threat, but the update also removed mines and stationary weapons from the plant and added cover and routes along the main road. Lighthouse may feel harder in some places; the changes do not establish that the map is more dangerous overall.
Why is Lighthouse so hard in Escape from Tarkov?
Lighthouse has been considered difficult because of its Rogue-controlled water treatment facility, dangerous approaches, mines and traps, exposed road crossings, and long sightlines that can favor snipers. A June 2026 report described those pre-rework challenges, but its account predates update 1.1.5.0 and should not be mistaken for the current layout: Insider Gaming’s June 2, 2026, report.
There is no official numeric ranking that makes Lighthouse Escape from Tarkov’s “toughest” map. A September 2026 guide distinguishes its own suggested progression from an official difficulty order: Tarkov Field Guide’s Lighthouse guide. “Toughest” is therefore a judgment, not a Battlestate Games ranking.
What changed in the Lighthouse rework?
Update 1.1.5.0, released September 8, 2026, changed enemy placement and movement options across Lighthouse. The following details are summarized from CriticalTarkov’s October 2, 2026, patch overview, which attributes them to the update notes: CriticalTarkov’s 1.1.5.0 summary. A contemporaneous report also covered the rework: 4Gamer.net’s September 8, 2026, update report.

| Area or factor | Before the rework | After update 1.1.5.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue position | Rogues controlled the water treatment plant. | Rogues moved to the mountain chalets, turning the area into a fortified position. |
| Water treatment plant defenses | Stationary weapons and landmines were present. | Stationary weapons and landmines were removed from the plant. |
| Main road | Crossings were exposed. | More cover and extra routes were added. |
| Mountain movement | Underground passages are not described in the pre-update reporting cited here. | Underground passages shorten routes to southern extracts. |
| BTR patrol | Not stated in the pre-update reporting cited here. | The BTR patrols Lighthouse, and its route varies across the map. |
Did the update make Lighthouse harder overall?
The strongest case for “harder” is local: the chalets now contain a fortified Rogue position, and a variable BTR patrol adds an element players cannot treat as a fixed route. Players accustomed to approaching the old Rogue position at the water treatment plant also have new enemy placement and routes to learn.
But not every change raises risk. The water treatment plant lost its stationary weapons and landmines, while added road cover and alternate routes give players more ways to move. The available update reporting provides no controlled before-and-after difficulty measure, so it does not establish a net increase in difficulty across the whole map.

What should players take from the changes?
- Reassess the chalets: Rogues have moved there, so old assumptions about where the concentrated Rogue threat sits are out of date.
- Do not treat the plant’s old defenses as current: the update summary says its stationary weapons and landmines were removed.
- Account for new movement options: road cover, additional routes, and underground passages affect how players can cross or reach southern extracts.
- Expect movement uncertainty: the BTR’s patrol route varies across Lighthouse.
These details describe update 1.1.5.0 as reported in September and October 2026; later map changes are not covered by those sources.
