Techland said Hotfix 1.2.1 fixed the disturbed day/night cycle that could make Dying Light: The Beast look like daytime while Volatiles appeared. The hotfix was announced for PC on September 22, 2025; Techland said console availability would follow, without giving an exact console release date. There is one important current exception: Nightmare Experience can intentionally place Volatiles in some Dark Zones during the day.
What did Hotfix 1.2.1 fix?
Techland’s Hotfix 1.2.1 notice says it addressed “the issues with Indoor Rain and the Disturbed Day/Night Cycle.” A Techland representative later confirmed in the Steam discussion that “The day/night cycle bug was fixed in hotfix 1.2.1.”
The original player report described the sun remaining visible even though the watch showed nighttime, alongside Volatiles appearing. Those details are player-reported symptoms, not a controlled diagnosis, but they fit the cycle problem Techland said it fixed.
The official hotfix notice is dated September 22, 2025, and says the update had just dropped on PC, with consoles to follow. That establishes PC availability at announcement, not the date it reached any particular console.

Why are Volatiles out in daylight in Dying Light: The Beast?
First check the mode and location. Update 1.5, dated December 17, 2025, introduced Nightmare Experience behavior in which “Some Dark Zones may now include Volatiles during the day.” A daytime encounter in a Dark Zone while Nightmare Experience is active can therefore be intentional, rather than a return of the old cycle bug.
Compare what you see with the two documented patterns:
Rank #2
| What you observe | What it may indicate |
|---|---|
| Nightmare Experience is active and you are in a Dark Zone | Daytime Volatiles may be intended mode behavior under Update 1.5. |
| The watch indicates night while the sky looks like day, or the cycle seems stalled | This resembles the historical disturbed day/night cycle symptom reported by players and addressed in Hotfix 1.2.1. |
The mode and location help distinguish the documented intentional encounter from the earlier bug pattern. A daylight sighting by itself does not establish that the bug has returned.
What to check if the day/night cycle still looks wrong
- Check your mode and location. Confirm whether Nightmare Experience is active and whether you are inside a Dark Zone before treating daytime Volatiles as a bug.
- Compare the watch with the sky. A mismatch, or a cycle that appears stalled, is closer to the symptoms players described for the earlier issue than Volatiles alone.
- Check for the current game update on your platform. The Hotfix 1.2.1 announcement confirms a PC release on September 22, 2025, and says consoles would follow; it does not establish an exact console rollout date. Techland’s announcements page documents later post-launch updates, but does not certify day/night behavior for every platform and current build.
- Report persistent desynchronization to Techland Support. The cited notices do not establish a universal troubleshooting sequence, so a restart or reinstall should not be treated as a confirmed fix.
What the updates establish—and what they do not
Techland explicitly said Hotfix 1.2.1 fixed the day/night-cycle bug. Update 1.5 later documented daytime Volatiles in some Dark Zones as a Nightmare Experience feature. These notes clarify the fix and the designed exception, but they do not prove that every platform received the hotfix on the same date or certify the behavior of every current platform build.
