On Steam, Dying Light: The Beast saves are normally in %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%Steamuserdata<SteamUserID>3008130remoteout. On Epic Games, check %USERPROFILE%Documentsdying light the beastoutstorage, plus the alternate installation-folder location listed below. Back up the entire relevant folder before uninstalling, moving files, or troubleshooting missing progress.
Steam save location
Techland lists the Steam save folder as:
%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%Steamuserdata<SteamUserID>3008130remoteout
On a default 64-bit Windows installation, that becomes:

C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata<SteamUserID>3008130remoteout
3008130 is the Steam app ID for Dying Light: The Beast. Replace <SteamUserID> with the numeric profile folder belonging to your Steam account. The folder name is account-specific, so it will not be the same for every player.
C:Program Files (x86)Steam is only Steam’s default installation directory. If Steam is installed on another drive or in another folder, start with that Steam folder instead. See Techland’s save and progress support article.

Epic Games save locations
Techland lists this as the default Epic location:
%USERPROFILE%Documentsdying light the beastoutstorage
In full, this usually resolves to a path such as:
C:UsersYourWindowsNameDocumentsdying light the beastoutstorage
Techland also lists an alternate location inside the game’s installation directory:
C:GamesDyingLightTheBeastph_ftworkoutstorage
The C:GamesDyingLightTheBeast portion is an example/default installation path, not a universal location. Replace it with the actual folder where your Epic installation resides.
These are alternative locations; every installation does not necessarily contain both. If the Documents path is empty or the game does not detect your progress, check the installation-folder path as well. The Techland manual-backup instructions cover both possibilities.

- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog, or paste a path into File Explorer’s address bar.
- For Steam, enter
%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%Steamuserdata, then open the numeric Steam profile folder,3008130,remote, and finallyout. - For Epic, enter
%USERPROFILE%Documentsdying light the beastoutstorage. - If that Epic folder is missing or contains no expected progress, locate the game’s installation directory and check

How to back up your PC saves
Steam
- Close Dying Light: The Beast. Closing Steam as well can help prevent files from changing during the copy.
- Open the Steam path ending in
3008130remoteout. - Copy the entire
outfolder to a separate location, such as an external drive or a dated folder elsewhere on the PC. - Keep the original folder untouched. A useful backup name is something like
Dying Light The Beast Steam - 2026-09-13.
Techland identifies the complete Steam save location as the out folder. Its instructions do not establish a required individual save filename, so do not rely on copying only a file that happens to look like a save.
Epic Games
- Exit the game and the Epic Games Launcher.
- Check the Documents location first:
%USERPROFILE%Documentsdying light the beastoutstorage. - If the saves are there, copy the complete relevant
storagefolder to a separate, dated backup location. - If the Documents location is empty, check the game installation directory at
ph_ftworkoutstorageand back up the complete relevant folder there instead.
Do not assume that Epic’s generic launcher save directory is the game’s save directory. Epic notes that individual games can use different folders; for this game, Techland’s documented locations are the authoritative starting points. The generic Epic guidance is available here.
Restoring a backup
To restore progress, first close the game and its launcher. Rename the current destination folder rather than deleting it—for example, change out to out-current. Then copy the backed-up folder into the exact documented location and preserve the folder structure.
For Steam, the destination must end in:
3008130remoteout
For Epic, use the location where the game was actually reading its saves: either the Documents outstorage path or the installation-folder ph_ftworkoutstorage path. Launch the game only after the copy is complete. If the older progress does not appear, close the game again and check whether the files were copied one directory too deep—for example, an accidental storagestorage or outout nesting.
If Epic saves seem to have disappeared
Techland specifically advises checking the Documents location for a newly created folder alongside the expected save data:
%USERPROFILE%Documentsdying light the beastoutstorage
If you find a newly created folder there, manually copy the saves from that folder into the correct save location. Back up both the existing data and the newly created folder before merging or replacing anything, so a mistaken copy does not remove the only remaining version.
Important Epic uninstall warning
Techland’s manual-backup article states that, until Epic Cloud Sync is added for this game, uninstalling the Epic version deletes the game folder. If the saves are stored in that folder, uninstalling can permanently delete them. Make a manual copy before uninstalling, reinstalling, or changing the installation location.
Do not assume that Epic cloud saves will restore Dying Light: The Beast progress. Techland’s game-specific guidance uses wording that Cloud Sync has not yet been added; the article does not provide a newer confirmation that Epic cloud saves are supported for this title.
What cannot be recovered without a backup
Techland says deleted save data cannot be retrieved and corrupted save files cannot be fixed when no manual backup exists. It also says Techland does not have direct access to player profiles and that progress and character data are not stored on its end. If a folder is missing or corrupted, search any external drive, Windows backup, cloud-storage history, or manually copied archive before changing the remaining files.
What is not verified
- Techland does not specify one universal individual save filename.
- Techland does not verify a universal
savesubfolder as the only location. - The official instructions do not document a guaranteed automatic-backup folder name.
- They do not provide a supported Steam-to-Epic or Epic-to-Steam save-transfer procedure.
- The supplied Techland instructions provide filesystem paths, not current in-game menu names or launcher button labels for backup and restoration.
For that reason, preserve the complete documented folder and avoid deleting or overwriting files until you have a separate copy.
