To connect a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch – OLED Model to a TV, use the Nintendo Switch dock, the official HAC-002 AC adapter, and an HDMI cable. Nintendo Switch Lite cannot connect to a TV at all. Nintendo does not document a supported direct USB-C-to-HDMI method, so a plain adapter or cable is not a guaranteed dock replacement.
What you need
- Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
- Nintendo Switch dock
- Nintendo Switch AC Adapter, model HAC-002
- HDMI cable
- A TV with an available HDMI input
Nintendo’s official TV setup requires the dock, AC adapter, and HDMI cable. The Switch OLED dock may include a built-in LAN port, but the TV connection still uses the dock’s port labeled HDMI OUT.

- Open the rear cover on the Nintendo Switch dock.
- Plug the AC adapter’s USB-C connector into the dock port labeled AC ADAPTER.
- Plug the other end of the AC adapter into a wall outlet.
- Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the dock port labeled HDMI OUT.
- Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to an HDMI input on the TV.
- Close the dock’s rear cover.
- If you plan to use the Joy-Con controllers wirelessly, remove them from the console. Remove any protective case before docking if it prevents the console from sitting correctly.
- With the screen facing the same direction as the dock’s front panel, carefully insert the console into the dock.
- Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input connected to the dock.
When the Switch is docked correctly, its built-in screen turns off and the picture appears on the TV. Joy-Con controllers that were not previously attached to the console must first be registered to the console before they can be used wirelessly.

There is no officially documented dock-free connection method for the Nintendo Switch or Switch OLED. Nintendo’s current instructions require a Nintendo Switch dock, AC adapter, and HDMI cable. A plain USB-C-to-HDMI cable or generic USB-C-to-HDMI adapter should not be treated as a guaranteed replacement.
