In Dying Light: The Beast, improving a weapon can mean crafting or reinforcing it, installing and upgrading a weapon mod, or raising a blueprint’s tier. These are related but separate systems: mod upgrades use a workbench and, according to a third-party guide, Field Manual Pages; Legend Levels improve your character rather than a weapon mod.
What weapon upgrading includes
Techland’s crafting guide, published August 15, 2025, describes collecting materials, crafting reinforced blades and choosing tiered mods. In practical terms, “upgrade” can refer to three different actions:
- Craft or reinforce a weapon: use scavenged materials to make weapons or reinforce blades.
- Install or improve a mod: add an effect to compatible gear, then raise the mod’s tier at a workbench.
- Upgrade a blueprint: use the relevant Field Manual Pages to raise its tier, as described by Gamer Guides.
If you are looking at the Workbench and wondering about the difference between a Blueprint and Weapon Enhancement, start by identifying which object you want to improve: the blueprint’s tier, or an installed weapon mod. The terms refer to distinct parts of weapon progression, not interchangeable upgrade buttons.
Crafting and reinforcing weapons
Techland recommends scavenging scrap metal, chemicals, wiring and electronics for crafting. Its guide also describes reinforced blades as a way to extend durability while increasing damage. That makes reinforcement a direct weapon improvement, unlike a mod upgrade, which focuses on an added effect.

Techland frames weapon and armor upgrades as a balance between offense and defense. Consider what is limiting you—damage, weapon durability, or survivability—before spending materials, rather than treating every available upgrade as equally useful.
Installing and upgrading weapon mods
Mods adapt a weapon’s combat role. Techland names bleed, burn and shock effects, along with durability boosts. The right choice depends on the effect you want and how you fight; the available guidance does not establish one best mod for every player.
Upgrade a mod at the workbench
Gamer Guides’ weapon-mod guide reports this menu route: go to a workbench, open Weapons, then choose Mods. It says improving a mod raises its stats or effect and costs the materials used to craft that mod plus the relevant level of Field Manual Pages. Menu labels and costs are guide-reported and can change; check the current game interface before spending resources.
Gamer Guides also describes mods whose effects trigger on critical hits or after a charged activation. When choosing between options, compare the trigger as well as the effect: a powerful bonus is only useful if it suits your weapon and the situations in which you can activate it.

Blueprint tiers and Field Manual Pages
Blueprint progression is separate from upgrading an installed mod. Gamer Guides says Beginner Manual Pages can raise blue-quality blueprints to higher tiers. Its Field Manual Pages guide also recommends Dark Zones as a source of pages and Oxidizers, naming the America Store and Pharmacy as nearby farming locations.
Those locations and drops are third-party guide advice, not confirmation from Techland’s crafting article. Treat them as version-sensitive suggestions rather than guaranteed sources or drop rates.

Weapon upgrades are not Legend Levels or repairs
Legend Levels improve your character
Techland Support explains that XP becomes Legend XP at Level 15. Legend Points buy passive character upgrades, and Legend Levels also unlock weapon rewards. This is character progression, not the workbench process for improving a weapon mod. See Techland’s Legend Levels support page, modified November 27, 2025.
Repair restores a weapon; it does not upgrade it
TechRadar’s review-level description says melee weapons degrade and can be repaired multiple times, while ranged weapons do not degrade; it also says weapons are crafted at workbenches in safe zones. Repair and upgrading address different problems: repair concerns a weapon’s condition, while crafting, reinforcement, mods and blueprint tiers concern how it is made or performs. The cited review does not establish repair costs or a precise repair limit.

How to choose what to improve
- Need a specific combat effect? Choose a mod direction such as bleed, burn or shock, then check its trigger and compatibility in the current interface.
- Want stronger or longer-lasting blades? Consider crafting and reinforcement; Techland describes reinforced blades as increasing damage and durability.
- Trying to raise a blueprint’s quality? Gamer Guides identifies Beginner Manual Pages for blue-quality blueprint upgrades.
- Spending points on your character? Legend Points are a separate progression system, not a weapon-mod upgrade resource.
- Weapon is worn down? Look for repair options rather than assuming a mod or blueprint upgrade will restore its condition.
Exact menu wording, costs, effects and farming availability are liable to change with game updates. For those details, trust the live game’s current menus over a guide written for an earlier version.
